Cessna 172 | G-AV Upgrade - Garmin GTX 335 Mode S | Episode 2
Earlier on in the year joined a group of friendly like minded aviation individuals from Southport and Merseyside Aero Club www.smac.org.uk . Since January 2019 I have been flying G-GYAV, a Cessna 172N out of Liverpool. Before I joined the club a plan was put in place to upgrade the interior of the aircraft. A costly process that involves sourcing parts from the USA and installing the majority of parts ourselves. The idea of the project was to give the members of the club something back as well as cheap flying, and at the same time attract new members. I would like to thank Nigel and Kieth at www.smac.co.uk for running both projects and I can’t wait for the results!
In this second episode I...

Hi everyone welcome to another episode from Av8 Bear. Today’s flight takes us to Welshpool from Alpha Victor’s home base at Liverpool. The weather is great for today’s trip with light winds and near clear skies. The route takes us from Liverpool’s Easterly runway 09 to Tarvin VRP, out of Liverpool’s control zone for a basic service. We then talk briefly to Shawbury Zone and then overhead Rednal...

Today I had there opportunity to test out G-GYAV, a Cessna a 172N based at Liverpool. Thank you for your videos - hoping to start my LAPL this year and just getting to grips with the flight computer. You stated that you would double the fuel amount for the return journey, but would that not depend on wind direction / speed? A strong headwind on the return journey would decrease ground speed and then increase the time taken?

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385 3 года назад

      Hi there, good luck with your LAPL training you will really enjoy it. In the Rory yes it would depend on external factors but because my flight was so short I doubled it. But probably not best practice!

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385 3 года назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, divide by 60 because I am trying to work out how much fuel is used per minute, hence 60mins in 1hr. So this works for all aircraft. If you want to become a pilot then you should go for it, you will only regret it if you don’t follow your dreams. It will involve hard work, frustration and disappointment at times, but if you put the effort in the feeling of flying your first solo flight will make everything worth while! Good luck and best wishes for your future studies and success!

      To an extent yes, perhaps local flights in not as much detail. You have to check certain things like weather and NOTAMS. Once you qualify you can use an electronic flight planner which makes things much quicker. However during training this is the way.

    Hi Av8 Bear. Great video but a couple corrections if I may (from a flight instructor). You mentioned adding deviation - that can only be done from the deviation card in your aircraft (its the local magnetic field i.e. radio etc), you need to be adding the VARIATION also - thats what comes from the map. When you added the 2 degrees you were actually pointing at the longitude. Slightly to the left of where you were pointing was the Isogonal that was reading 1.5 degrees (in the UK they are more diagonal dashed lines). Only a small difference I know but variation changes over time, obviously longitude doesn't - it just happens on your video they are about the same. If you flew in the USA or Canada they would be very different numbers. Kind regards - keep up the videos!

    Hi! I am an engineer and I wanted to ask you a question. I think it would improve the speed with accuracy yes but a lot of pilots we are always sceptical about computer technology. Interesting question though and certainly something that will create a debate. I think doing the maths in your head is the safest way still at this moment in time.
