A British man flew to Switzerland after winding up living back at home with his mother, not having found real companionship or friendship, and is now dead. A 20-something guy in Canada was depressed and lonely and lived with diabetes and mild autism and decided he wanted assisted death. The thing is, I can’t argue with this because life is not consented to. You ARE allowed to commit suicide, and if you insist otherwise, you are accepting that humans do not have any autonomy whatsoever. But this would be logically inconsistent, as I’m sure you would victim-blame (“don’t blame others for your problems”, etc) in many contexts. You cannot oppose an anti-natalist perspective on life, claim humans don’t have the right to commit suicide, AND believe in personal autonomy or individualism. Suicides are ALWAYS indicative of the community failing an individual in some way (as is really any crime), but humans are too arrogant to accept that they often do things just as terrible as murderers, let’s say. They birth criminals. They make people want to kill or be killed. And they do designate human lives as being more valuable vs less valuable, so it strikes me as disingenuous and smarmy to tell someone “human life has inherent value” [sic] when they suggest suicide/assisted death. Some people don’t accept the lesser value assigned to their life, and the extreme limitations that puts on their lives vs others. I know I don’t have many reasons to live, as a gay man who has always resented my inability to connect with my own gender, and who has never had friends. I simply don’t have the ability to do normal, self-affirming things with my life like others do. Also, neurodivergence is of course a reason to access assisted dying services. Autistic people are often highly intelligent, but born with the burden of being social outcasts (until they say they want to die, in which case everyone is apologetic for the moment - and then nothing changes). I don’t think anyone who doesn’t have autism should be lecturing autistic people about how they shouldn’t make decisions for themselves, or about how they should be trapped and forced to just exist while not wanting to. That leads to homelessness, even greater suffering, and tragedy.

If my knees are already painfully jammed against the back of your seat because there isn't physically enough room for me to sit without doing so, you will not be leaning your seat back.
