Guitar player
Guitar is a very personal instrument. Use whatever gear you like.
Be happy. Make music.
Lots of stuff out there telling you what the future is with gear. Or what good gear is. Or maybe even that you don’t need gear.
Here is what I’ve learned. It’s all very personal. I know some players that love digital and are great with it. And for me, digital is okay, but I love the convenience and feel of an amp.
I have a sound I like, and that’s what I go with.
I think that’s the key. Find your thing and just play.

Pentatonic Scale: What Are Avoid Notes?
Просмотров 587 часов назад
The five notes in the pentatonic scale are chosen for a reason. And if you play those five, you are always safe. But if you learn you learn how to use the semitones (avoid notes), you can create some really spicy lines that no longer sound like just pentatonic #guitar #guitarsolo #pentatonicscale #pentatonic
Everything I've Learned About the Circle of Fifths
Просмотров 1839 часов назад
I am using SM57 audio. Hopefully it's marginally better. It doesn't add a ton of time to sync that and the video together. It's doable. But the vocals may be a bit low. The guitars may be too loud. That mic is like four feet from the amp 😏 Louder is more good. I may have to match that a little better. This is split between what I've learned from making a video (almost) every day and what I've l...

Songwriting: Learning How to Write Music Takes Time.

Turns out I had more to say about the 10,000 hours rule and songwriting than I thought. This video is a bit longer than I expected. But hopefully some good stuff in here about what I've learned, and my current process. If you aren't familiar with the 10,000 rule, some info here: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4662388/ #musictheory #songwriting #musiccomposition #guitar #songwritingtips #songw...
Are Smaller Pedalboards Better Than Large Ones?
Просмотров 58016 часов назад
I’ve wanted to simplify my pedalboard for awhile. I finally tried it. And I think I love it. A small rant on how you can’t force 10,000 hours to be a master at something. But mainly all about how I think I might prefer small pedalboards over giant ones *I cut the intro music because I didn’t like it*

Three Reasons You Should Learn Music Theory
Просмотров 208День назад
I don’t think this question will ever go away. Especially for guitar players. We will always rationalize by stating great guitar players that didn’t understand theory. Based on my experience, I go through three reasons why you should learn music theory. It’s worth it. 1. Music Theory will help you communicate 2. It’s probably not what you think. (You don’t have to sight read music) 3. Theory wi...
How I Use Barre Chords On Guitar. Even When People Say Not To.
Просмотров 31День назад
It's really common for some guitar players to tell you barre chords are wrong. They might say they make you look a certain way, or that you don't need those big chords. I want to offer an alternative approach. They are fine. And in many circumstances, preferred. They can have a level of efficiency in sounds that aren't as easily accessible if bound to a simple triad. Triads definitely have thei...

Getting Started with Chord Numbers in a Major Key
Просмотров 12014 дней назад
I'm a huge fan of making my own charts for all songs. That's some version of the Nashville Number System, but not entirely strict to the way some people do it. But in order to do that, you have to understand how the numbers for chords in a key work. If that's new to you, hopefully this will help point you in the right direction. 0:00 Intro Playing 1:13 Intro to Chord Numbers 3:37 Demonstrate Ch...
