San Juan River Zahn's Camp Meander Morphology
A quick video that uses time lapse satellite imagery to show the San Juan River carving away a bend in the reservoir-caused sediment delta downstream from Clay Hills Crossing.

Here is a chance to see what the San Juan River looks like as it flows into the reservoir affected areas of its lowest reach. This video is released as a companion piece to Zak Podmore and Elliot Ross' article in the Adventure Journal, issue 31. There is sound in places on this video - we only wanted to use sounds from the trip itself. Enjoy.

A large calving of the reservoir caused sediment banks (aka Dominy Formation) was captured during the rising river runoff in April of 2022.

A time lapse of satellite imagery helps to show the advance of the Colorado's massive sediment. This shows that its not just a shrinking reservoir but an advancing mud glacier.
Methane Mud Volcano

On the deltas going into the reservoir known as Lake Powell there are areas of massive amount of methane emissions. On a survey trip across the sediment delta area of upper Glen Canyon on the Colorado, a group of researchers camped near a methane mud volcano. This footage was taken by Jack Stauss, Mike Fiebig, and Davide Ippolito.

This footage shows several rafts going through the sediment delta area downstream of the North Wash/Dirty Devil take out. Through this reach the river has been displaced by approximately 100 feet of reservoir caused sediment. As the reservoir known as Lake Powell declines, it exposes more and more of the sediment delta to be eroded by the river. This footage was shot in October 2022 by Meg Flyn...

This footage was taken of a survey group going around the Great Bend of the San Juan River. The river has been displaced by its own massive sediment load which fell out of suspension as its waters were stilled by the reservoir known as Lake Powell.

Me too... freaky! I've been to Lake Powell a few times and have always been amazed by it. Now I realize that it's an enviromental catastrophe.
