ON TOUR WITH #yorkshirejock
Великобритания
Добавлен 19 ноя 2012
Come with me on a tour of Yorkshire and it's rich heritage of industry, it's people, and places of interest.
Ride shotgun with me in my wagon, over the motorways, towns and cities of the British Isles.
See the steam hauled trains roar through my small town of Sowerby Bridge, and the Edinburgh bound steam specials leaving York for Christmas markets.
Ride shotgun with me over the hills and valleys of West Yorkshire on my motorcycle, where you can smell the sweet Yorkshire air, if you use your imagination....Let me know if you would like me to film a certain part of the district for you, and I will see if I can fit it in to any future video... Most of all, thank you for watching, all your comments are welcome, good or bad, I will always remain impartial. Thank you once again...Alex....#yorkshirjock

Over the years, I have witnessed numerous changes in this industry. Technology advancements and evolving regulations have transformed the way we operate. Despite these changes, one thing remains constant - the joy of meeting great people along this journey. However, with time passing by, I have also experienced loss as some of those great individuals have sadly left us. Yet amidst it all, I am ...

It was ice inside windows 😂
Yes it was bud, used the camping stove to warm the cab up...lol
Yvgb
Started sleeping cross seat no heater wouldn't change thing map and address love it retired now had great friendship other drivers
Yes John sleeping across the seat with no cutains, waking up in the morning with people going about their daily business, still in your working clothes..lol .. We are lucky that we are still here, a lot of good lads and lasses have passed on.
Did they put a decent bed in that upgrade? The one I had was like a mortuary slab.
When you had just pulled the third disc out, a concrete one would have been comfortable bud...lol😂
Is the strip club near Watling Street Truck Stop still Open ?
Tried it once. Had a meal at the Harvester too. Wouldn't park there now with a curtain sider. Well dodgy.
thanks for this , i started in 1985 with a sweeping brush in the yard and worked my way up to my first f10 and beyond from tramper to mature night trunker , no flapping straps nor dirty back lights , no tracksuits and trainers then , 32 years later , redundant , the wife said they don t want drivers like you anymore , i had to admit she was right , anything goes now , even the poor standard of hgv drivers , all i drive now is a sweeping brush and duster , still miss it though , from nick in lancashire
Yes bud, the job has changed all round, and not for the better in my humble opinion, but we will always have the memories..👍
@@yorkshirejock yeah , i guess you re right mate
Drove in the very late 60s and early 70s when a student at university. As you say, none of the comforts but my recollection is that drivers tried to help each other rather than, as now, filming everyone’s misfortunes
Very true bud..
No night heaters draughts in cabs haps and ropes yes they were the good old days no kidding 😂
Rose tinted days bud eh! lol
Those were the days no limiter on the truck
I had the best years 70's onwards, loved that cafe by J8 on m1, always stopped there after getting london behind me,. I remember the cdc shop/bus with the nice guy who ran it to,.
Yes Mike..70s were indeed the best.
When I started driving hgv we never had cameras, sleeper cabs , night heaters , satnavs , rachet straps , curtainsiders , hiviz vests or a traffic clerk to find you backloads ! All we had was memories and bloody good ones too , happy days 👍
And it was hard graft as well Alex..keep it lit mate..happy days indeed.👍

@@alanpercival840 Again Alan, I was married in Barrhead, and lived in Nielston, I worked at McKelvies in Paisley 1977,driving a J reg Atki Borderer, pulling steel out of Govan shipyard. Keep your happy memories alive, they are gold. 👍

@@alanpercival840 Yes Alan, James Austin, Iron & Steel Merchants, Thornhill Works, Dewsbury, no longer in business, loaded myself out of there on occassions. "Leathers Chemicals" was on Canal road in Bradford, they were one of the 1st companies in Yorkshire to have Scanny 110s, day cabs.

Well youve set me off again another fav 60s A1Southbound from durham early start with my dad watching the sun come over the north york moors
@@alanpercival840 I'm glad it's had a pleasant effect on you Alan, that makes me feel good, times have changed, and we will neve see those days again. I have a lot of footage, and when time allows, there will be more coming. Stay tuned.👍👍
Hya my claim to fame is operating mobile crushers in quarries all over Scotland in 80s to90s my last crusher weighed about 120 ton we had to separate the crusher block to come over the forth bridge all traffic was stopped we had the bridge to ourselves sadly couldn't get a photo as I had to go as second man
@@alanpercival840 I try to take pics and videos where ever I go, things change so fast.
Also I had some fun on the A66 also around 73 74 we were tramping 3 caterpillar dumptrucks up to penrith the trucks were 12ft wide in heavy rain at Warcop one truck skidded nose dived in a ditch major panic army rescued us a tracked machine winched the truck back on the road which was at a stand still another day our low loader loaded with a CAT D8 on engine blew up and ended up at the main gate for Appleby grammar school we ended up having to get the dozer onto another trailer so there was mud oil sleepers school buses and a head master going ballistic good old days
Really enjoyed video n music fond memories coatsgate cafe revolving wood door and bacon butty had many trips on the 74 dad was owner driver long distance in1973 I was up at Stirling on a caterpillar loading shovel digging out for the M9 when I came of hire I was told to drive the shovel back to co durham. So I had to go through airdrie lanark then down the 74 across the A69 to hexham then over to stanhope co durham it was a long trip at about 22 mph also the shovel was over the white line dodgy with wagons passing I was pleased a workmate was my escort
My claim to fame on shap was i slept through it my father was long distance lorry driver in the 50 60s i had many trips i was 12yr old when one day in the midlands we had to wait all day fir a load of castings to go to ayr docks bound for ireland as the day went on dad tried to rebook a night at my favourite cafe the kernel bloxwich to late so dad said we would go up overnight the load had to be sheeted and roped so we set off had tea at garstang i remember coffee machines in kendal must have fell asleep missed shap when we go to ayr the dockers got a surprise castings were still hot then overnight in glasgow loaded with fray bentos to newcastle we lived in co durham dad was a subbie to coopers road services glasgow and bilston area and also a raritie brs stockton happy days
@@alanpercival840 That's a great memory Alan, I remember the Kernel cafe, used it many times back in the day after loading out of Willenhall. Pity you missed Shap bud, we never thought back then that it would become so iconic.👍👍
@yorkshirejock hi thank you for reply dad would stay there very regularly between 1960 to67 I remember the owner I could go in swimming pool pleasant walk along the canal then best ones the limes Norman's quernhow coatsgate dad had his own A licence but I'll health made him retire early I had many great trips
@@alanpercival840 Keep the memories lit Alan, your dad was old school, they don't make em like that no more. 👍👍👍
Most nostalgic with great comments and music. In the Stainmore Cafe in the old days you always got two eggs with breakfast. Happy days and the A66 Scotch Corner to Penrith hasn't changed much over the tops in 60 years. Anyone remember when Bowes and Brough weren't by-passed ? Everything you said resonates with me. Thanks.
Thanks for watching William, good to remember how it used to be.
Seeing Bowes and Brough mentioned reminded me of old times. I did a fairly regular trip from Essex to Glasgow and beyond via A66 and A74 back in the early 1970's. Winters were fun, no cab heaters for comfort if you were unlucky enough to stuck in the snow..
It is called “Wilko”
Very good smooth well done 🎉
Thank you buddy, much appreciated.
❤❤
Cool
👏❤️🥰👏
Holy laing
Only an 8 speed. I have found that anything less than a 13 sucks seeing how they 8-11 aways seem to need a splitter.
That is one of the best gearboxes ever fitted to a truck! If empty pull away in 2nd then go 4th. Flick switch up,6th, 8th. It's called a 4 over 4 gear box. I love mine, I drive a Scania p450 32t hook loader.
Love that truck 🚚
Do one for me pls ❤😊
I most certainly will buddy...❤❤
THANK U ❤
No one can take your memories away, in their time those trucks were the king's of the road, there was an art to driving them and a skill too. No power steering, no synchromesh on the gear changing, you couldn't stop concentrating for a second. If you did, these trucks would soon let you know about it. I often wonder how younger drivers would fair today if they had to drive them. Modern trucks today are lovely wagons too. Don't ever forget your wonderful memories, keep on trucking 👍
Hi Paul, Thanks for watching bud....They were different days, and your'e right about today, and what younger drivers might make of it, today it's like driving a luxury car, with all the home comforts...but I miss the cameraderie that was there then....it's all too fast these days, so yes..the memories will stay, until we all die out, and then it will be up to the historians to tell the tale..All we can hope..is that they get it right...lol👍👍
Great vid
What the hell
Laser beems buddy..Otherwise known as D.E.Ws
I'll ride Shotgun with you and I'll bring my Rose Tinted Glasses too! Should Auld Acquaintance be forgot, for Auld Lang Syne? I'll also admit to going over Shap Southbound in my car in Aberdeen Booster, more than once. 77 this year and still miss the days when Drivers stuck together and helped each other out. Thanks for the memories, Jock!
Hi Alex...Climb aboard buddy, we can ride back into a better time together....those days are gone when we all stuck together, buddy, but the memories are still alive..75 now and still trunking (part time) can't seem to let go...lol. Keep it lit my friend.
Happy grandad❤🎉

Oh we for sure are!
My initial knowledge of Shap was from seeing pictures of steam trains climbing from Tebay, and also of the Lune Gorge, where trains would take water and take a run at the bank. I was aware that the A6 also went over Shap, but I knew little about the road, apart from the fact that every effort was made to keep it open, even in the depths of winter. Imagine the shock I received the first time I travelled on the line. It was the summer of 1968. I must have been aware of a new bridge being built over the line, near Thrimby Grange, between Penrith and Shap, but I could hardly believe what I saw a few minutes later, namely a massive bridge over the railway just north of Tebay Station, the Lune Gorge being churned up with a six-lane motorway, and an even more massive bridge over the railway at Grayrigg, at the end of the gorge. Shap and Tebay would never be the same again. Until then, the only classified road in the area was the A685, and I gather that this road had to be considerably realigned to make way for the M6. Next time I travelled along this route by train, three years later, the M6 had been open for about a year and a half, and the destruction of the Lune Gorge was complete. I made three enforced trips on the M6 not long after, and finally, in 1977, drove the Kendal to Carlisle stretch of the A6, shortly after passing my test. (Yes, and a large lorry cut the corner on the bridge at Clifton and Lowther Station.) How I missed both the lorry and the bridge parapet remains a mystery. I
Hi Andrew, That's a great story, and a wonderful memory for you, Shap has an affection for quite a lot of us.. Thank you for your comment and thanks again for watching.
@@yorkshirejock Incidentally, that trip was made on the Newcastle to Blackpool through train, hauled by a Class 24, which would have been a rare type on Shap. I seem to recall that it was down to walking pace well before the summit. I assume that it would have worked the return service, so I wonder how it fared on the climb from Tebay.
