Absolutely amazing!! I'm not a Leeds supporter myself but I absolutely love "Marching on Together". It has quite an effect on me. The best football anthem there is. Nothing against Southampton but hoping Leeds get back to the Premier League.
I'll never understand why they don't have the Soprano 1 finish on the high Eb at the end of God Bless America. To me - the chord sounds so unfinished. (Spectacular - but unfinished.) (Other songs have a high Eb - When You Wish Upon a Star, Skip to My Lou, Give Me Your Tired, etc.)
I think it's because America itself is spectacular, but unfinished. Beautiful, but not perfect. The ending chord makes it an "Imperfect Authentic Cadence," which seems appropriate for our (assuming you're American) nation. A perfect authentic cadence would suggest that we don't need God's blessings on America. But because we are imperfect, we do need His blessings.
I’ve wondered the same thing at times. I guess it was in Derric Johnson’s vision to keep it simpler, would be interesting to learn his perspective. Another little thing I also notice is whenever they perform A Dream Is A Wish, at the end of the intro the 1st Soprano’s Bb suspension is resolved by going down to A, but if you listen to Derric Johnson’s studio recording of it the Soprano moved up to the C.
I love it. That archy is stood in the middle, just taking it all in.
