Thanks for the video. I have dived at Elphinstone several times and always enjoyed the experience - especially when the currents were strong. Only once did I see an Oceanic White Tip and that was after a dive whilst back on the RIB. I was able to slip back into the water and snorkel with one just below the surface. It gave no sign of being aggressive/dangerous and seemed to ignore my presence. Sadly my diving days have passed but I still have my memories.

Moin, eventuell siehst du das ja hier. :D Also ich hätte großes Interesse Ende September einen Tauchausflug an das Elphinstone Riff zu machen, würde sich super anbieten, da wir in Abu Dabbab sein werden und es da ja ohnehin 2 super Tauchschulen gibt. Ich hab selbst auch schon den normalen Padi Open Water Diver (auf Bali gemacht), allerdings jetzt die 2 Fragen: (1) Wie ist das mit der Strömung, ich hab hier und da vereinzelt gelesen, dass es wohl am Elphinstone Riff eine sehr starke Strömung gibt und man deshalb als Anfänger da nicht tauchen soll? Ich bin daher bisschen verwundert, wie ich meine Lage einschätzen soll, mein Tauchschein ist zwar noch recht frisch, schwimmerisch war ich aber über 7 Jahre Mitglied im DLRG. (2) Würdest du überhaupt sagen, dass mein normaler Open Water Diver für dieses Riff reicht also die 18m max. Tiefe? LG Mike
Oceanic whitetip shark facts. Size: 13 ft long. Habitat: Warm offshore waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Diet: Fish, squid, and sea turtles. Predators: Juveniles fall prey to larger sharks, and adults are sometimes taken by killer whales. Bonus fact: They often have pilot fish swimming with them. The pilot fish keep the shark's teeth clean and the shark scares away other fish that might try to eat them.

Gutes Video. Aber man sieht immer wieder das es welche in der Tauchgruppe gibt, die sich nicht richtig gegenüber Haien verhalten können - wie panisch mit Händen und Füßen rum fuchteln usw. Ist leider sehr Schade.
Dankeschön Nico. Ich gebe dir völlig recht. Leider sieht man solche Szenen täglich am Elphinstone Reef. Da man dieses Riff bei einem Tagesausflug betauchen kann sind dort sehr viele (auch unerfahrene) Taucher anzutreffen. Schade auch, dass es bei solchen Trips in der Regel kein gutes Breefing gibt. Ich persönlich tauche nur noch am Ende einer Safari am Elphinstone Reef. Manchmal hat man so das Glück weniger Taucher mit mehr Erfahrung zu treffen.

Die taucher interagieren mit dem Longi genau so wie man es halt nicht macht und im absoluten widerspruch zu den warnhinweisen die im video eingeblendet werden.
Ja genau, leider sieht man solche Szenen immer wieder. Bei Plätzen an denen Haibegegnungen möglich sind sollten die Taucher besser auf das richtige Verhalten hingewiesen werden

sorry to ask, how was your first encounter with a shark? i’m quite young and have only been diving a few time in places where sharks are rarely seen. i’m taking my diving course here and heard it’s quite likely to see a shark, do they tend to bother divers? sorry to ask i’m just quite nervous
elllaruby x my first shark encounter was actually at elphinstone reef. I was just fascinated. Even in waters with sharks it is always a gift to behave these graceful animals. Sharks are rather very shy and rarely come close to divers. Most shark attacks are the result of the diver's misconduct. Please inform yourself about the correct behavior with these animals, then the first shark encounter will be an indescribable experience. Lots of fun and nice dives
