BUT: To get it to work you need 1 more repeater at the 3-repeater-delay thing. Minecraft's redstone timings seem to have changed.

Huhu, ich hab es repariert bei mir. Es ist nur eine kleine Anpassung, ich poste dann hier im Channel ein kurzes Video, was man ändern muss. Video sollte spätestens Donnerstag kommen.

I've built it like 8 blocks high and it worked. U could build this higher, but the pulling down of pistons will take a loooong time with this kind of elevator.

How tall can this go?

As far as I know there is sometimes a bug involving redstone and updating blocks. If you haven't tried it yet build the contraption facing north or south, like in the video (if you look on the minimap) - it works for me (Minecraft 1.4.5)
