The Peak 山頂: From No-Chinese Allowed, to Batteries and Billionaires 從『華人止步』到億萬富豪
Standing tall at 552 meters, the Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island and a natural signaling post for incoming cargo ships in the nineteenth century. In 1905, the Pinewood Battery was built on the Peak's western side, with Harlech Road constructed to provide resupply access for the artillery and later anti-aircraft defenses.
During 1904 and 1947, Chinese people were not allowed to live on the Peak according to the Peak District Reservation Ordinance when Hong Kong was a colony.
