There was no way the devs would've allowed it, for multiple reasons.

Funny thing about Barbara's story - We know half the story is true, that she was killed by her fans. But what fans? Theory one : her bf (her number one fan) Theory two : the beasticon fans home invaded her (she had a taste for stardom, so did her fans) Theory three : she was called upstairs to Walter's bedroom where he tried spooking her and she slipped on the skates and fell down over railing (you can see broken railing in house). The comic shows there is masked monster who tries spooking Barbara hiding in the fridge. The mask belonged to Walter. And Guess who do we find was living behind the fridge? Walter. The one she labelled as mole man under the house. The game has layers and layers of lore and reveals. I am glad you liked it. Its a beautiful game!

These are all great points! I didn't even think about the fact that Edie made an addition to her house instead of just dismantling the shrines so her daughter and grandchildren could live comfortable in a normal house. Crazy!

Wow, okay I think theory three is the most plausible with all that considered. And it might have played into why Walter went into hiding, perhaps partially of the guilt he must have felt.

Look into playing this developers' other game The Unfinished Swan. It's cannon to Milton's story. Go in completely blind to gameplay and story because it is super unique

Lewis' story is super rough, as I struggled with similar things some time ago. Thanks for doing the game justice
