    THIS is the game that turned OSU into the program it is. Old Lewis (Rustoleum) Field. I was there. 13 years old. I was in awe of seeing the Nebraska Cornhuskers come onto the field. (prior to this season they played Miami in the National Championship) and I remember watching the OU / Nebraska game the year before that, OU beating Nebraska and winning the title against Florida State. It was so cold and rainy. Everyone was wearing trash bags, freezing. Great times. Still have my ticket stub. 👍

    That was such a huge game. I knew they had beat us for like 40 years, but didn't realize this would eventually lead to us becoming what we are today.

    I was a mortgage processor at the time and one of my clients was doing a refi. I called him the next day to check and make sure he and his family were okay, and he said yes but he couldn't do the refi because he didn't have a house anymore. I was horrified on his behalf. I think that conversation will stick with me as long as I live.

    • @lowesmobiledj

      Oklahoma has clay soil, which doesn’t lend well to basements in general. Very few places have them. Any underground shelter usually is a preformed structure lowered in.

    I understand that every school in the country cannot have funding for safe rooms but when you live right smack dab in the middle of Tornado Alley every school should have tornado shelters/safe rooms. Absolutely negligent. The stupidity is mind numbing.

    • @lowesmobiledj
      @lowesmobiledj Год назад

      Well, a few things to put into context: tornadoes have struck in all 50 states. To say that only the middle of the country needs them is painting with a broad brush. DFW is way more populated and most people living there don’t have a shelter. They are equally as likely to have a tornado as much as Oklahoma. In fact, one of the worst recent storms was in Tuscaloosa, Alabama-Hardly smack dab the middle of the country. Numerous EF5 have occurred as far north as Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio. Where do you draw the like for “middle of the country”? Let’s also keep in mind that this is already a rare event. There are tornadoes annually but most are small, last for a few minutes at most and hit largely unpopulated areas. To have one violent on the ground in a metro area for nearly an hour is a rare event. Secondly, this district in particular probably existed from the early 70’s and has never needed a shelter for a tornado for nearly 30 years. In fact, historically, if a storm comes, it typically strikes in later evening. Hardly at 3 in the afternoon which again is extremely rare. Moore is a suburb of OKC which covers about 26 square miles, so the district is not small and within you are talking about 3 high schools, like 9 middle schools, and probably 30 elementary schools. When you look at the capital costs to implement something that is expensive and the schools already hurt for legislature money, it is frustrating that funds don’t exist. About 1/3 of the schools in Moore did contain a shelter as of when this occurred. Shortly following the cleanup efforts, bonds were passed by the community retrofitting all schools with safe rooms. I’m glad to say as of about 2018-all sites in this district do have tornado safe rooms, but I can tell you most existing school buildings in other districts Oklahoma do not, likely believing it will not happen during school hours or won’t be bad enough to level the school. Somewhere around 40% of all Moore and South OKC residents maintain a private shelter at their residence, so people are cognizant of tornadoes- it’s like anything else, money is a factor.

      @@lowesmobiledj You are not telling me anything I am not already aware of. No school in Oklahoma City or in the vicinity should be without a storm shelter. It's that simple. I live in Wisconsin and did not buy a home without a basement. It's absolutely ignorant.

      @@patricianewman6772ou’re the ignorant one and a shitty person at that. Also if you knew anything, you’d know that Moore mayor worked hard to get storm shelters put in nearly every home and schools in that area paid by the state after this happened. Good for you that you are privileged enough to be able to have a basement. Money is a huge factor here. Instead of being such a nasty person to people for living in an area how about you keep your mouth shut and mind your business. Such a nasty attitude

    Some may find what I am about to say "offensive" but I'm gonna say it because it needs to be said! (Videos like this and so many others are so important to keep in the publics mind, because right now, at this very moment, there are schools, daycares, hospitals, places all through tornado alley, that still to this day, do not have storm shelters. Because there is "no funding" for them. Yet the Federal Govt keeps sending "Billions" to Ukraine. They will not save the lives of their own people, yet they send our money to save lives in other Countries all the time. It's not ok, because "Billions" would put storm shelters where they are needed all across tornado alley. I know it, you know it and they know it. Demand better for our children with our tax dollars. Someone has to.) 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @KaileyB616
      @KaileyB616 Год назад

      I agree with everything you said, except the part about the government sending money to Ukraine to save their lives - that's not why they're sending it at all. Honestly we don't even know that all of those billions of dollars are actually making it to Ukraine. I'd bet $100 that it's all one big money laundering scheme. This whole thing is just the US fighting a proxy war with Russia, and more than likely a means of laundering money. The US government has never cared about saving anyone's lives ever, not even Americans. It's disgusting.

      Ukraine isn’t the beef you think it is. Trust and believe defense spending wouldn’t be diverted to build your storm shelters. They weren’t built after May 3rd 1999. They weren’t built after May 20th 2013. And they won’t be built now. Politicians telling you to blame your problems on the Ukraine war are BSing you. The Gov doesn’t lack funding for domestic pet project spending. They just don’t care. And tornado alley is so solidly red that your Reps don’t have any leverage to make either party care.

    Thank you for uploading this game. From June 2010 to 2011, I was in on my second deployment to Iraq. After serving five years in Army, I went to Texas A&M from 2013 to 2017. This was the first Big 12 game for both Oklahoma State and Texas A&M of the 2010 season, but it ended up impacting the Big 12 South race. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M all finished 6-2 in Big 12 games, and Oklahoma won the the division based on the BCS rankings. Oklahoma went on to defeat Big 12 North Champion Nebraska 23-20 in the Big 12 Championship Game and crush Big East Champion Connecticut 48-20 in the Fiesta Bowl. Subsequently, 6-6 Washington stunned 10-3 Nebraska 19-7 in the Holiday Bowl. www.deseret.com/2010/11/28/20156734/oklahoma-wins-bcs-tiebreaker-for-big-12-title-game If Texas A&M had won this game, they would have finished 7-1 in Big 12 games to win the Big 12 South division and faced Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game. This was the Aggies' best season since winning the Big 12 in 1998. Not only did they beat three in-state rivals Texas Tech, Baylor, and Texas in the same season, but they also beat Oklahoma and Nebraska. After losing three consecutive games to fall to 3-3, they finished the regular season with six consecutive wins before losing to LSU 41-24 in the 2011 Cotton Bowl to finish 9-4 and ranked No. 19.
