Echoes of Wisdom was the LAST STRAW
MODERN ZELDA SUCKS. Just kidding, kinda. This is sorta a review for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom but not really. I'm just ranting about Modern Zelda again LOL. I briefly discuss Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, as well as A Link Between Worlds in this video so you get a bit of my opinions on those games. Remember I'm just some random guy on RUclips so don't take what I'm saying personally.
Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate you taking the time. Quick side note, if you're reading this please check out my latest video "Why Gaming Sucks Now". It's a great video and it bombed tremendously LMAOOOO

    They should have gave a sword, special magic, and a meter to do a huge attack with the triforce of wisdom. Or she could have used it to make herself smarter. I like the idea of this game and I'll play it since i only touched alttp. But yeah this game should have done something different with Zelda.

      A magic meter and spells like in smash instead of the Swordfighter form would've been so awesome. You wouldn't even need a lot of spells, just 2 or 3 would've done A LOT to improve the battles.

    Does anyone else think that the early fan criticism of Zelda TP and the overall lukewarm reception of Skyward Sword ended up as a double edged sword situation? Like the response was BOTW which ended up executing the the idea the original NES Zelda set out. But lost the magic of the traditional Zelda era? Low key seems like they rebooted the Zelda series.

    Elden Ring is a fantastic game but BOTW does more to gaming than Elden Ring ever did. That being said although both are open world they go for very very different goals. Elden Ring is mostly around combat and “carrot on a stick” type exploration. Trying to motivate the player on the promise of a new item. Although this can be effective I find that BOTW trying to break free of this over reliance on this method and more minimalist approach much more refreshing. But looking at gaming as a whole it’s good to have all these different games and experiences. Another way BOTW (and TOTK) are fresh is the unmatched level of environmental interactivity that makes the world feel so much more alive regardless of existence of the player. I hope in the future for more complex npc interactions to make the world come even more alive.

    The amount of insane builds you can make is truly next level. A few months ago I made a gravity mage build and it was genuinely one of the most fun runs I’ve had in this game using spells like meteorite of astel and the other gravity spells. Plus I love coming up with the lore for my characters when making these builds, even if it does contradict the actual lore of the game it’s still really fun

    Just because there are many things to collect, doesnt mean the game is good. Most items in ER are just pseudo content that forces you to waste time. Best example would be the sacdu fragments. Mizayaki and his friends intentionally overtuned the DLC bosses, so they could force the same mechanic on you one more time. Because smithing stones, bell bearings, grave worts, pots and bottles, cookbooks, sacred tears and golden seeds in the base game are not enough grinding. AND NOPE, Miyzaki does not want you to "play with different builds," because even respeccing requires item grinding.

  • @rodrigoandrade8586
    @rodrigoandrade8586 День назад

    I disagree with that, the open world is bad implemented First is beautiful, but a dead beautiful world beacuse there no world interaction or action in Elden 's world besides combat Second the exploration isn't well rewarded, beacuse for all the items you can get, some of them can't be exploited cause status or limited smithing stones This game consumes a lot of time for you to explore until you level up enough, or by finding the sources you need In comparison whith Zelda, Elden Ring doesn't promote exploration but enforces it, and it doesn't rewards it very well

    • @kukukachu
      @kukukachu 17 часов назад

      @@Woaley yep, skin-walker. I hear people make this argument quite often, but I have to ask, when was the last time you played the original Zelda? You'd know that BotW is nothing like the original if you've played he original. The OG was actually psuedo open world, there was still a certain structure to it. You still had dungeons, and you still had to beat a certain amount of them before you could actually explore the vast open world. In BotW, you can use whatever tool you want whenever you want, and if you're good enough, you can just go straight to Ganon....in the original Zelda, you could not do this. Zelda is not a sandbox game, nor should it have ever be one. I spit on the creators that defiled Zelda, even if they're the ones that originally created it. They show no respect for their past work, and if they wanted to make another game, that was a sandbox, they should have made it with a new IP. BotW is not Zelda.

    This is a very good video. Although, I'd argue that Elden Ring isn't as much about exploration as much as it's a natural evolution of the Souls genre. Other Souls games (including Sekiro and Bloodborne) you're sort of in a "amusement park" of a map. They're interconnected nicely but they're not open world. Then Elden Ring explodes on you and shows you this vast open world (and underworld). Maybe the inspiration was BOTW but I'd argue the inspiration is much closer to something like The Witcher. But, I can offer a really interesting retrospect to your entire video. I agree that "open world" games became just a bunch of check lists and to do-s. And that Elden Ring isn't that. However I played Elden Ring like that and I had a blast. To me Elden Ring isn't about exploration, it's about the bosses, the difficulty of it. So the way I played was I would first get the full map for a region and then I'd find a online map that shows all the bosses in the region and I'd just start chipping away at that list. Made me feel like some sort of a hitman, and yes in the process of going from Dungeon A to Dungeon B I would encounter and see cool stuff. A lot of people told me it was a stupid way to play the game, but I had a blast. But that's just me. I get sort of overwhelmed at big open worlds because I want to be able to do it all but in ER you can never be sure you did it all (one of my major gripes, I mean a quest tracker would be nice). Finally, I think you weren't really fair in the whole RP aspect of Elden Ring vs BOTW. Since in BOTW you're playing as a predetermined protagonist you're there to experience his story. In fact I'd say Link is as flexible as he gets in the predetermined protagonist category on the account of the fact he doesn't speak. But take for example The Witcher. You're Geralt. Sure you can roleplay as a Sign user Geralt (more magic) or pure Swordsman (what I did) or a healthy mix (essentially a Witcher lol) but underneath it all you're still Geralt and you're playing through what is his story. Same can be said for Link. But in games like Elden Ring and Skyrim for example, you're set to unravel your own character because the character you start with is essentially a nobody, an empty sheet of paper. Granted in Skyrim you're the Dragonborn but regardless your Dragonborn can be of any race, any gender and use any weapon you want. Same is in Elden Ring and other souls games (other than Sekiro ofc). So comparing the ability to RP as whatever you want in ER vs in BOTW isn't really fair in my opinon. PS. Go jump over that rock made me laugh, nice one. Overall nice video.

    The problem is that the new generation of gamers have not played classic Zelda like Ocarina and Majoras Mask, with its phenomenal music, progression, and deep story and fun items (hookshot my favourite too!) Because botw and totk are likely the first zelda games people have played and their success financially and numbers sold, Nintendo will likely not return to the classic Zelda I enjoyed on the n64, gamecube, and Wii. I loved the 2d games on the gameboys and DS's. Classic zelda is something older gamers can hold dear. I played botw, hated it, just beat the story minimally to say I finished it and did not bother buying totk. I did enjoy echoes though.

    So, about the Null fight! You can actually bind to its hands and Link's AI will allow him to run over and chop them off for you. While granted, not too big of a role, it will allow Link to be more of use and up the cooperation with him. It was something I noticed in your gameplay, and I'm a little surprised you never did that lol While I do love all of the classic Zelda games, I still like the mechanics the modern games introduce as well, even if they're a bit clunky. I personally enjoy the freedom and open-airness the modern Zelda games have, but I do want it to stay true to its roots, so I personally think EoW was a good step in the right direction, even if it was small. :) I think new gameplay mechanics and items could be introduced, but you can only get them after a certain point in time (like getting past the mid-way point of a dungeon) but in turn allows the world to become more free to the player and just let them skedaddle. But these points are very well-said, and it's refreshing to see actual valid criticism of the game that's not just "the game looked bad to me but I played it anyway and it SUCKED because I said so." This was a pretty cool video!

    • @Woaley
      @Woaley День назад

      Thanks for the kind words :D Yeah I figured out you could do that at the very end of the boss fight but it's still sucks you're basically just a supporting character imo. Link gets to do all the cool stuff And while I do enjoy the freedom and exploration of these newer games, they just need more direction and progression to ground that exploration. It'd go a long way for me personally.

    ToTK has a target audience dedicated to the sandbox player who is creative and some of the things people have made are quite incredible but it would have been nice if it wasnt a Zelda game but a new IP that was about a massive sandbox that you can do what your heart desires. I know the formula was getting stale for Zelda over the last 3 decades (geez) and if you work at Nintendo, I'm sure you would be getting tired of making the same formula over and over again but Zelda's biggest strength to me is item based progression. Whereas Metroid games are about ability based progression, Zelda games always have this amazing "aha" moment when you get a new item like say the Hookshot and your brain puts two and two together to all the hookshot targets you have seen across the game world up until the point you got the Hookshot. That feeling is Zelda to me. BotW and TotK don't have the item based progression so I never got that "aha" moment. Now for BotW I did feel accomplished when i finally found my way to where i wanted to go and thats where BotW succeeds in having exploration based progression but as you have said in the video, TotK loses the reward for exploration as once you figure out the "optimal" way to progress you can use it in almost every situation. To those people who enjoyed TotK, thats great and if you got to fully utilise the tools the sandbox gave you then I'm happy but I really wish it was a new IP instead of a Zelda game.

    The thing about the devs not being able to get deep into the puzzle craft because they have no idea which echoes you have hit the nail on the coffin. I really liked EoW but I've noticed a trend lately of games in general (especially nintendo games) seeming like they have a fear of the player becoming lost or stuck. Sure it's annoying in the moment if you reach an area only to find out you can't progress because you missed something, but imo it's what made games like OoT so special the first time. A big part of the joy in classic zelda as a kid was, (for me,) wandering around not knowing wtf I was even looking for until I stumbled upon a new objective or area. It felt like I was really exploring a magical new world and the first time in BotW brought that back. Nowadays with TotK and EoW I immediately knew right away where I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do because the game literally hand feeds you everything you need from the get-go. (and insures that even if you didn't get what you were supposed to, you can just work around the puzzles anyway with some broken mechanic.)

    I think there's a balance to be struck here, we can have the open ended games but we need more designed experiences around select abilities. Where some of the classic games failed is that items can sometimes be useless outside of dungeons or select spots, where the newer games fail is that every puzzle becomes either so watered down you can just brute force your way through them and or just a memory game of what you have rather than the puzzle being smart. I like the sandboxy nature of the new games but echoes especially I wish had less options but with more designed functionality, Totk is really innovative but they mostly apply the tools to the same copy paste shrines and encounters and its so open it breaks exploration. They coulda approach it like a metroid game where items open up world progression or up the quality of side content and enemies, ie take the puzzles out of the generic shrine format and work them into side quests and design enemies around specific items.

      My perfect Zelda game is a blend of the freedom mechanics and the classic dungeons. This game def moves in the right direction, but yeah no actual abilities kinda bring it down

    Echoes of Wisdom went hard. Perfect Balance of New formula and Old Formula. I did not have an issue with the combat. I enjoyed the combat a lot.
