Old Dude Outdoors
Добавлен 31 окт 2013
Hey Ya'll ! My name is Ralph Barton. I'm an avid, (obsessed!), Virginia outdoorsman!
Most of my time is spent fishing, hunting and roaming the mountains. I am fascinated by everything in the natural world and I love capturing what I observe in photos and video.
I'm just getting started on youtube and I'm not great at the video creation yet but I'm working on it! I love sharing my outdoor adventures and hopefully can start posting some content on a regular basis. Most of my videos are short and are nothing fancy, and I don't have the latest and greatest equipment, but it's the "real deal"! Hunting and Fishing the public lands and waters is challenging but it's also very rewarding! Thanks for watching and Hope you enjoy my content!

TRAIL CAM SET UP ON SCRAPE CLUSTER! #whitetaildeerhunting
Просмотров 32514 дней назад
As an avid, (OBSESSED !), Deer hunter I am always trying to learn more about the mysteries of the whitetail deer! For me over the years scrape activity has always been one of those mysteries. I recently found a cluster of 3 scrapes while hunting in the Blue Ridge Mountains and decided to set up a Trail-Cam there. The scrapes were fresh and active so I was curious as to what deer may show up. Ke...

Thanks for your video. Learnt a lot.

Very cool footage 👍
Thanks for watching!
Nice one
thanks for watching!
Congrats on another great animal this season!
Thanks Lethal Air for your comment and for watching the video!
Not even out of October yet, bear and deer! I haven’t even gone out yet.
It's tme to get out there! Good luck!
@@olddudeoutdoors7882 Thanks and congrats to ya!
@@olddudeoutdoors7882 Hey old dude - what for tree stands do you use when you hunt big woods like that?
@@brianh1161 Mainly I use climbing stands. I have some that are lightweight, the brands I like are API , OL MAN and SUMMIT. Climbers are generally very comfortable and so that helps on long hunts. Also i can move a climber to a different tree pretty quickly if needed. I also do have a few hang-on stands and I use and 20 foot climbing sticks for those. The hang ons work good in gnarly trees where a climber won't but they are not very portable. Hope this answers your question!
@@olddudeoutdoors7882 Yes sir thank you. I like my climber but sure hate lugging it thru the big woods.
yeah buddy...you'll be tagged out while the rest of us poor slobs are out there freezing December out in a tree! I have found the same thing in some of my spots...better acorns up high and noon or poor ones low. Great video once again!
Thanks scott! Wishing you lots of success this hunting season!
Hey Greg , I dont know what I was thinking in that last comment, I called you scott? Probably sleep deprivation! Hunting season is hard on an "old dude" ! 😂
@@olddudeoutdoors7882 haha...EVERYBODY does that! I assure you I've been called far worse. I am in about the same sleep pattern. I get it!
Good hunt,I like the way you keep the video on the hunt without a lot of extras, excellent.
Thanks for your kind words, and I appreciate you watching the video!
Nice videos. But I’ld never get away with setting up a camera that low and in the open. Every deer would be looking at it.
I found the most active scrape I have ever seen last season 30 yards from a very active access trail on NF land. I thought "no way" but put a cam on it and had 8 different bicks over 3 nights hit it. You just never know. Anothet great video
You are right, you never know! I've actually had very little success investigating scrape activity over the years, Of course I think a lot of scrapes are just made as the buck moves through and never get visited. It's very rare that I find a scrape that's consistently active. It's a never ending process learning about the mysteries of the whitetail deer!
Great video Ralph!
Thanks for watching old friend!
good stuff brother!
thanks for your support brother!
@olddudeoutdoors7882 always sir, you got this down to a science now, I want to know your camera brands, how you attach them etc, keep up the awesomeness brother
Man, you motivate me. That bear roast looked delicious
Thanks for watching!
Nice job on the hunt and video. The cooked roast looked great.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job .good blood trail
Thanks for watching!
Great shot and awesome bear. Congratulations if you had to guess what do you think he possibly weighed I was thinking the 250-275 range
Thank you! I'm thinking it weighed about 200 based on other bears that I've actually put on scales. The bear looks big because its thick and stocky but its actually kind of short-bodied
couldn't wait til tonight! When I retire I wanna be just like you! Seriously though...few will appreciate the amount of time that was put in leading up to this moment. I am excited for you that you got a great bear but that you got a great video of it too. Now it plays in more than just your memory! Good work buddy!
Thank you for the kind words! I am blessed much more than I deserve that is for sure!
Congrats and well done. You make it look easy. Any idea what it weighed?

Great video, very detailed and well presented
Work the hide while its still soft as the solution is damp / wet it helps open up the fibers in my experience. nice bear.
Awesome footage and commentary!
Awesome stuff. You were so patient and explained things well.
Just found your channel, love the content!! Sunscribed!
Thank you so much for watching! Good Luck to you this hunting season!
good stuff as always brother!
thanks for watching !
Great job.. beautiful video ❤ Thanks for sharing this brother
thanks for watching !
Lots of hard work but that is what it takes! Very good video for home tanning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Nice job using our NuTan product! You did great fleshing and shaving. A tip that would help with a final end result is to be sure to add the rehydration step prior to pickling. This helps to wash the salt off and open the skin up to accept the pickle. The pH prior to applying NuTan should be at 4.2-4.4. And last tip, be sure to fold the skin flesh to flesh for 24 hours after applying NuTan. This will activate the tan - then open up to dry. Thank you for explaining how to use our product!
thank you for the tips !
@@olddudeoutdoors7882 Have you tanned anything else?
great stuff brother
thanks for watching !
great stuff as always sir!
Thanks for your support!
Need to get down there and catch them in the mud😁
Yep, this coming week after this big rain the fishing should be good ! The water has been down a lot so hopefully it will come up some and improve the shallow water bite
amazing video
thanks for watching !
the big gets away again !!
Yep! But that just makes me want to go back and get him next time!!!
If I'd of gotten that net stuck on the cleat trying to get that fish you would of cussed me out for the next half hour😂😂
Yep! Don't you ever do that!
The same thing happened to me when I was kayak fishing there. I was throwing lures on top of their heads. Did you try a paddle tail lure?
yep I tried a natural finish paddle tail swimbait, caught one small one with it. I think when they get really focused on the baitfish they're after it gets difficult to coax them to bite something else. Of course I'm no expert but this is what I've experienced over the years. Nonetheless it's fun and exciting fishing for them when they are in that feeding frenzy!
I guess it's that time of year again. Time to break out the topwater lures! Could you tell what size shad they were keying on? Great video as usual!
the baitfish I was seeing were pretty small, maybe 1-1/2 inches long. They were in very large schools and I'm seeing these schools all up and down the roanoke river arm of the lake. Thanks for watching!
I love it when that happens 😊
yep its exciting! thanks for watching!
The Carolina rig has always been my go-to when I am chasing Bass😊
Thanks for watching!
great video as always. I am not much of a bass fisherman but this time of year I always start slinging some plastic worms. I really need to up my game to be a little versed in some different rigs. This is some great instruction. Thanks!
Thanks, and good luck!
thank you brother!
cant believe you didn't take it home Ralph
hey there Steve! yeah I'll let him grow up first LOL!
Enjoyed the video. Love Texas rig and zoom curly tail 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great "how to" fishing video for SML in July! Like all of your fishing videos!
Glad you like them!

Thanks for visiting
You're amazing! You saved a baby deer!!
I was just fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time! Thanks for watching
You are a good old dude.

Great job Ralph!
THANKS FOR WATCHING KEN !
Excellent demonstration video.
thanks for watching !
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I will have to give drop shotting a try. Do you ever fish Senko Wacky worms? If so, I'd love to see a video of that technique sometime.
I'm not much on the wacky rig but I know it is a pretty popular technique. I have rigged the worm wacky style on the drop shot but have not had that much luck. Thanks for watching
Great informative video!
