    I agree the the US has some things to sort out for sure (housing and healthcare come to mind), but as a libertarian I can't help but question your argument with a simple counterpoint; Governments do not produce wealth, they tax the people's wealth. If all people have the right to work less and receive free or highly subsidized healthcare, education, and additional services... where does that money come from? Most of your examples are still from European countries that make up the top 10% of the world. The other 90% works 16 hour days for almost nothing with limited access to healthcare and education. Almost every country that lives like you described in history was smaller with a wealth of natural resources, and as soon as those run out so too do the 10 hour workweeks and free stuff

    You have to remember that America was not established as a place to have a life, but a place to make a profit. All of the original American colonies were established as for-profit entities, some were outright corporations (Rhode Island was, at least, a co-op). Corporatism (and corporate exploitation) is baked into our bones.

    I'm a Brit and I get the impression that the USA is pay to play. If you have the money, you can have the best of the best. If you don't, the hardship is akin to a Charles Dickens novel. No offence to the Americans out there because I have nothing but love and respect for you. Thank you to all the service men and women who basically guarantee our security. Also, thanks to all Americans paying exorbitant healthcare fees. Your money allows pharma companies to sell their medicine at discount prices over here.

    I think that perhaps you are missing something. Historically speaking we have never had it better, even in America. We used to work 16 hours a day in coal mines for a pittance and then die young, because of all of the lung damage. Perhaps the US hasn't caught up with the other nations in terms of work-life balance, but the US is the top GDP of all countries, even though it has about a third of the population of China. This allows the US to front an enormous military that is being used to keep some semblance of peace in the world. Not to mention, the US is one of the first places people think of to immigrate to. Obviously the improved standard of living and opportunity to earn is keeping people there. Also you are being too harsh on the US. Have you ever been to Japan? The company IS your life. Japan expects far more out of it's citizens than the US does.

    • @AlexanderSterlingYT
      @AlexanderSterlingYT 23 дня назад

      Yes, the US is a very wealthy country, but what you’re not realizing is we have enormous income inequality. Income inequality in Japan doesn’t even come close to that of the United States. In the U.S., the top 10% of earners capture a significantly larger share of national income (approximately 45-50%). In Japan, the top 10% take a smaller proportion, closer to 30-35%. Japan maintains a more stable and broader middle class, supported by cultural and policy factors that prioritize job security and wage equality. Japan also has extensive social programs, and more progressive tax policies, so they are better able to redistribute wealth amongst their citizens. If we are going to compare with other countries, then we need to make sure we are looking at the whole picture.

    • @CdrRogdan
      @CdrRogdan 23 дня назад

      @@AlexanderSterlingYT What I'm getting at is that other societies have different viewpoints on manpower and what it means to the country. Should America become more like Japan, the UK, Sweden, Iran? Which country to you think it should mirror? And what effect is that going to have on the GDP? If you just say they should tax the rich more and spread out the wealth inequality, then you will simply drive those wealthy people away. The reason there is such a wealth disparity, is because wealth grows as you accumulate more of it, and those wealthy people prefer to live in the US. I don't actually think it has anything to do with 'fair' wages, because lower wages drive the cost of things down, which overall would result in deflation and a greater purchasing power overall. Perhaps you have some specific solutions in mind, but I didn't hear you argue them out in your video, you just seemed to be complaining. That said, what DO you propose for the US to become a more 'fair' society?

    This is one of the reasons why I quit dating. Every date was a financial interrogation. I was looking for real connection to another human being, not to be someone's financial savior. I get sick and tired of how only certain jobs are considered worth of respect. I respect the janitors, the electricians, and the computer programmers just as much as the doctors and lawyers. But this country has contempt for many professions. I don't want any part of that.

    • @solracer66
      @solracer66 23 дня назад

      You mention computer programmers. This is one of the rare jobs that pays well but is considered contemptible in a dating situation as intelligence is not a valued commodity as much as fitting in is. I actually saw a dating ad once that said "No drunkards, drug addicts or engineers please" as if all of those qualities were equally unacceptable.

    • @AlexanderSterlingYT
      @AlexanderSterlingYT 23 дня назад

      I’m sorry you’ve had that experience. I agree with you, there’s so much more to connection than money. I can understand people having a personal value of hard work and stability, and wanting to see that reflected in their partner. But it shouldn’t be the only factor, and definitely not at the top of list. Just because someone makes good money, doesn’t mean they will be a good partner to you.

    So many people repeating the same thing over and over again. It's a broken record. Nonetheless, the majority doesn't see it like that. They are convinced the system is the best of all possible systems in the world and the US is number one in everything, the greatest country in the universe. So, nothing is going to change. Those with money and an opportunity to immigrate you do so. Expecting Americans to stop trying the same thing should be another definition of insanity.

      Rights aren’t free-they come with shared responsibilities. For example, we all pay for public safety through taxes, like police and fire departments, because we recognize that a safe society benefits everyone. Investing in things like healthcare and education creates healthier, more educated citizens, which strengthens our economy, reduces crime, and improves everyone’s quality of life. It’s not about ‘free stuff’; it’s about pooling resources for the common good.

    • @DDAstronomy
      @DDAstronomy 24 дня назад

      With that same reasoning why doesn't every road in the US have a toll? Take it a step further, why should your taxes go towards the military budget to protect not just yourself, but your nation as well as others? Healthcare does require someone else's labor, it does require you to spend your money to care for somebody else, it does require you to sacrifice your work for someone else's benefit. But it is a human right, like water, food, shelter. Why should someone's financial situation affect how good their medication will be, if they can get any at all. Our Healthcare System (NHS) here in the UK isn't perfect, but at least we have one. It was estimated that on average, Americans pay $8,000 USD on "health insurance" (a term not used in the EU) EVERY YEAR! In the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Poland, the average expense through taxes to each nations respective health system is an average of $2,000 USD. These countries are poorer than the US by a lot, but still manage to provide healthcare to everyone regardless of their own wealth. How many people are bankrupted by health insurance fees in the US every year? 68,000. In the EU, with over 600,000,000 people, 0 go bankrupt because of this. America has been ruined by Corporate greed and propaganda which has made its residents numb to this unjust regime that has ruled over their nation for the last 100 years.

    • @ryanfitzgerald9833
      @ryanfitzgerald9833 24 дня назад

      Okay, better explanation. us not having collectively paid for healthcare is not only more expensive. It's a liability economically for all of us. If your coworker gets sick you could get sick because they can't afford the time off. Or it could mean that your work day is harder because they had to take the time off. If they get injured and it doesn't heal properly because they couldn't see the specialist they needed or get the attention they needed. That means you have to work harder. Other people's health affects you and if it is not as good, your life will be harder. And because we do not have the power of collective bargaining behind us, we have had to put up with private equity firms pillaging our healthcare system, making our outcomes and treatment worse for more money. Why? Because there has been little scrutiny and little government interest in doing anything but staying out of it. Children are guaranteed. Healthcare soldiers are guaranteed health Care. Why are the average workers not? Is it less important to anyone that the person that serves them at McDonald's or the person that watches their kids during the day is not sick? Does that seem any less important to someone than a soldier not getting sick. That is why I believe we need single-payer healthcare.

      @@AlexanderSterlingYT pretty much Everything you promote is socialism and you didn't need to say the word. i'm guessing you do nothing for the good of society.

      As he said, he didn't mention socialism once - I live in a capitalist country (UK), and have spent much of my life in other countries too. America has an absolutely extreme, optimised interpretation of capitalism that makes it stand out even amongst other heavily capitalist countries. The alternative is not socialism, and I would not support that in the slightest - the alternative is a more cohesive society and adding new priorities to daily life that aren't just blindly maximising profit.

    You are a very wise man. Some people are planners and others are not. Being single and sixty was not something I expected to be saying. I was the planner that provided for everyone else. But I figured out I was worth more than being the fall guy that got cheated on for years. Hoping you will find your place in this life.

    Oooh man, I was about to send this to my ex until it got to "face yourself" part which is what I know they won't do and will tell me that's what *I* should do (me the one in therapy and who wanted to talk through problems and repair our relationship)
