Field Day, 2024, Radio Amateurs of Northern Vermont (RANV), W1NVT
We had to move our site from Williston, VT to Essex Junction, VT, but this provided us with more room and seemed to work well. Thanks to the Vermont Forrest & Parks Department for their help. Yes, this is an actual state park (US-5564). Even though it rained most of the time we had fun and exceed our QSO total from last year. Thanks to all the volunteers who set up, tore down and operated this year.

At the Vermont convention, HamCon, in Colchester on February 24th K1IP gives a tour of his mobile radio van. It's a used van used from an NBC affiliate for remote TV coverage, refitted with all kinds of ham equipment. Every POTA activator needs this!

At the Vermont convention, HamCon, we ran a remote station for people to make contacts. The remote station was about 10 miles from the convention, an Elecraft K3 (100w) to a Yagi at 71 feet.

On 9/16/2023 W1NVT activated Elmore State Park in Vermont, #3112. Operators were N1CFO, W1SJ and K1BIF. Both stations were Elecraft K3s with 500 watt amps. Both antennas were Cobra Ultralight 80-10m folded dipoles up 35 to 40 feet (no really tall trees there). The weather was cool (50s to low 60s), cloudy and windy. On August 19, 2023 W1KOO activated Sandbar State Park in Vermont (# 3140) The occasion was the annual picnic for the Burlington Amateur Radio Club (BARC). Park activation of Kamp Killkare State Park (#3121) in Vermont

As part of the Radio Amateurs of Northern Vermont's annual picnic, we activated the park. Operators were AA1SU, KC1PYO and K1BIF. The antenna was a Cobra Ultralight up about 60 feet. The radio was an Elecraft K3, with an Elecraft 500w amp. It was cloudy, a few sprinkles and windy, but we had fun and made a casual 132 contacts in 2 hours

On June 3, 2023, W1NVT activated Camel's Hump State Park in Vermont, park# 3107. Activators were W1SJ, KK1L, AA1SU, KC1JGM and K1BIF. The weather was cool (50s and 60s) cloudy in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon. Propagation forecast was poor for 40m and 20m, good for 15m and 10m. On May 7, 2023, W1NVT activated Knight Point State Parki, # 3125. Operators were W1SJ and K1BIF. It was mostly sunny and in the low 70s in the afternoon. This was day 2 of a New England QSO party and park activations covering Lake Carmi and Knight Point, in 2 rare VT counties. Our total for the weekend was 1,467 QSOs
POTA hunting from my basement

On 12/4/2022 I shot video of me hunting parks on the air. I have a ground mounted vertical (Hustler 6BTV) with 32 radials - it's resonant on most bands. A lot of the QRP activators are very weak in my north east corner of the country, but workable. The stations worked are (in order): K4HRH, K4NBJ, KF9R, W9SNH and K4JPA.

What mast system did you use for those yagis?
Surplus military 50 foot masts.
I heard the phone stations give the class as 2A, but there seems to be 3 or 4 transmitters (not incl. GOTA). Were you taking timeslots between phone & CW, and is that more productive for score than to run 3A or 4A? Always trying to learn more, thanks for sharing your insights.
Phone and CW had 2 transceivers, but only one was used at a time, the other could be used to listen to see if another band was better at any given time, plus there would be a spare if one radio went down. We have a satellite station, plus a UHF.VHF station. GOTA had 2 radios, one for SSB and the other for FT8/FT4 - only one used at a time (switching between FT8 and SSB is easier for new hams if you use 2 radios). Some in our group think 4A wold be better for us, but that's for a future discussion.
Phone & CW are in two separate tents, several hundred feet apart. One operator for each mode, no timeslots.

Awesome pics and video. I grew up in Winooski in the 1960's and the water passing by the Champlain Mill is amazing. My Grandmother worked at that Mill from 1920-1950 ish and walked to work everyday from St Peters St. Thanks for posting!

Anywhere from one to six, depending on age and motivation.
This is NOT how you want to tune up your rig. Read the manual. Don't follow this example.

I had an early FT-101. Worked great except it always drifted off frequency. And It was out of calibration between receive and transmit. Got use to it and just kept correcting it. I sold it at a ham fest. Now I have a Kenwood 570D.
I've always wanted one of these. I had a Tempo One for a while around '04 when I first upgraded to General Class. I made my first 40m HF QSO on it with a J-38.
Get one while you can. I have a 101, 101E and 101B and love them all.

i WISHED i STILL HAD THE ONE i HAD i TRADED FOR ANOTHER RADIO.. THE PROBLEM i had it drifted and I could not keep it tuned to a station.
This exactly how you blow up the finals on sweep tubes. Watch how he leaves it keyed up for more the 5 seconds while fiddling with it. The manual is very simple. Tuning a radio is very simple. This is not how you do it. People please do not do this.
