    Just so everyone knows, Mike still owns half of cinemassacre; (Or at least Him and james are "equal partners" with Screenwave owning a portion) which is definitely worth milllions at this point. James knows and appreciates his contribution, some other comment also said he wanted to credit him but Mike declined

    This makes me feel like he quit because he maintained his passion while James burned out. He probably felt that if James didn't even care any more, then why should he continue to expend all his energy into Cinemassacre?

    James and Mike really were a great duo. Mike was the true nerd and James performed it well and added a lot of creativity. It just doesn’t work without that dynamic

  • @Drazwin

    This is really eye opening. Mike should have at LEAST been credited as a writer or maybe even head writer as well as having the gameplay credited to him. I also didn't know that Mike was the one that really pushed James to continue making avgn. That being said, nobody could play the Nerd like James. The show wouldn't be the same if Mike was the frontman. He is very much a behind the scenes guy. It very clear that Mike is the real nerd of the duo, but that sort of personality doesn't appeal to most people. James had a way of describing the game that didn't come off as too nerdy, but instead like a friend you are hanging out with. I respect both of them, but AVGN is clearly more of Mike's child rather than James's or at least 50/50 effort. James should have been credited as creating the idea and starring as the Nerd as well as setting up shots/filming. However, most of the other credits most likely belong to Mike (writing, producing, playing the actual game). It is clear AVGN took a nose dive in quality after Mike left. His influence on the series especially those early days is extremely important.

    Gotta be honest, even tough people are saying that he is the real AVGN (wich I agree), I jus't can't picture him playing the role, that would be like writing a great character but choosing the wrong actor to play it. However, Mike is a smart guy and he saw the potential in James encouraging him to go on with the show and that's why the show worked. James has a very interesting personality, the way he talks is unique, his facial expressions are priceless and even his voice tone is more convincing when he swears. They were a great team and it's such a shame that they're not working together anymore.

    James is a great actor, great guy. I think he stopped being interested in games around college, but all the memories and how good of an actor he is basically makes up for it.

    • @ProtomanButCallMeBlues
      @ProtomanButCallMeBlues 6 месяцев назад

      He stopped playing games before college. HE NEVER grew up with the 3rd Gen consoles. N64/Playstation is alien to him. I don't think he ever really put much thought into SNES either, like the fact that Mike had to hold his hand while playing Megaman X was very eye opening for me.

      @@ProtomanButCallMeBlues James said once he was crazed about the n64 and bought a bunch of stuff for it, I don’t remember the video but it probably was on a James and Mike episode. I take James’ word for it.

    The insane thing is that somebody put untold hours of work into making this video, as if it contained revelations of the highest importance or something, and stuck timestamps in the description for, presumably, the "serious researcher." Holy KEK! Autism, man -- it's a hell of a drug! I mean, yeah, we know the score. Mike was a HUGE part of what made the Nerd the Nerd. Would it be better if Mike started regularly writing scripts again? Undoubtedly. But it looks like those days aren't coming back, so just let it go. I very much enjoy watching Mike's streams, though -- it's about as close to classic AVGN as you're likely to get. I still watch James' vids from time to time. They're kinda comfy, but not really so passionate as the early stuff for obvious reasons.

    When Mike left Cinemassacre, I followed him to watch his game streams. Then it seemed to me that it was just a coincidence, but it turned out that it was not a coincidence. AVGN left and I followed him.

      @johnhorne3052 4 месяца назад

      @@ProtomanButCallMeBluesCrack open a dictionary once in your life and learn what the term 'grift' actually means. Playing a fictional character is not swindling people out of their money.

    • @ProtomanButCallMeBlues
      @ProtomanButCallMeBlues 4 месяца назад

      @@johnhorne3052 clearly you need to open a lexicon, otherwise you would know what an idiom is. It was never to be taken literal. If I was saying James was stealing Mike's life I would've typed "james was stealing MIke's life". Either you're autistic or english isn't your first language otherwise you wouldn't have bothered. Idioms have figurative meaning which in this respect it means "to profit", which James absolutely did profit off the back of MIke. That is not up for debate. The logic here is that James content, and fictional character was not authentic to James or his writing for which he was often credited with.

      He technically owned half of cinemassacre, but I always figured James had a personal stake into the AVGN character. It's true though, if it he had a personal stake they could've spun off into their own things like the game grumps.

      Same. Some big youtuber from my country recently made a video talking about how AVGN was mostly Mike Matei and I was like "What? Is that true???" and then got into the Cinemassacre rabbit hole too. I will continue to support James, obviously, but watching his new and old content knowing all of this gives a weird feeling. It sounds really dumb when put in this way, but it actually feels like finding out Santa isn't real all over again, lol.

    Such a shame that Mike doesn't like to act. He's a better actor than James imo. Also considering the fact that Mike was the producer of AVGN series he could create a show of his own. I guess he doesn't strive as much to get recognition so he won't ever do such a thing.
