You can open the whole lid not just the side lid that'll be alot easier to pour your ingredients into the machine. The side lid is for to open to put nuts berry's or any other kind of chunks you feel like adding.

It’s better if you would’ve had the cloth by the valve so it sucks into the area where cloth is by you putting no cloth in the area where the valve is makes it more difficult to suck the air out

Also the kneaded eraser, isn't mainly for erasing but for correcting by reducing dark areas and it's also used for effects. You have to clean your stumps usable part often and once in a while, reshaping it's point. Faber Castells one, comes with 2 different grit surfaces, and thar's much more preferable, than only one grit, that most have.

Never touch the usable part of the paper stumps with your hands. The moisture from your hands oils, destroy the stumps surface, making it lose it's ability to blend graphite properly.
