Absolutely thank you for making this video. I'm a competent player sometimes but there are so many tiny little chord changes in this that are almost imperceivable to the ear when you try and pick them out. I really appreciate you throwing in a bit of theory in this too such as the tonic stuff you're chatting about. Absolutely understated guitar in this song probably since the voice and composition as a whole are absolutely stellar e.g the triumphant string section and crescendo in Duffy's voice. Thanks sir !!

Most of what you’re hearing isn’t even guitar. The entire intro was pieced together with several different synth and high horns mixed with the six and 12 in the back and barely audible. Live they just double the open chords

Thanks for this. Love this tune. I wonder what type of synth keyboard Michael McDonald used for this one. I've played around with my old Korg Triton and I found an oscillator called Pulse Wave 18% thats gets fairly close.

I love learning by watching. I can look up the key and chords and break down the theory, pick it by ear… all can be done. But, there’s something special to me personally, about seeing someone play it and you can tell they love the song. And I can see the voicings you prefer to use, the bassnote runs, etc. Truly the art side of music.

Can you redo this video including a play along like the left handed but right handed. I see some differences between the left handed and right handed and the left handed has more subtle moves. I’d love to see the revised right handed version of this song.

I think the D chord is voiced with an F# on the 4th string rather than a D to lighten up the sound a bit. It also sounds like that sliding guitar riff may emphasize the bottom two notes but you can sometimes hear a few higher notes of the chords on top. So he must be fingering the whole chords.
