4:45 Lavender (lav) is NOT a lethal gene. It is associated with a gene termed “shredder” that causes very bad feather texture. You can breed lavender birds together just fine. The traditional wisdom is to cross a line of lavenders back to black birds to improve the feather quality. These split for lavender birds (Lav+/lav) should not be used in a black breeding line as you can contaminate the black line with the ”shredder” gene.
