Thanks for capturing this moment in time and showing the unique perspective of a bird. It was fascinating to see the reclined angle of the Environmentall’s cab.
Matthew - it's what I love to do - showing off the skills and crafts in every sector of the construction industry. That cab tilt is really practical - you see it quite bit in cranes too.
Address?
275 Queen St - it IS in the title
Kinda funny (and sensible) to see venetian blinds still up in the windows. And sad.
Demolitions are always a mixed bag of emotions - see our beautiful Causeway Bridge as an excellent example. The efficiency of the work is awesome, but the loss is almost palpable.
I remember clambering over the Captain Matthew Flinders when it was under construction in the early 80s. It was sad to see it leave Adelaide where it was built by Morry Hoy and Glen Culley who used to run the old Sydney ferry, ‘Lady Chelmsford’, up and down the Port River prior to the Matthew Flinders replacing it in 1985. I had four fantastic years playing in the band on the old Showboat.
Stu - what an amazing memory to have. I'm delighted that you found this video. There's another featuring the Captain on the channel. Shout if you have trouble finding it - and have a wonderful 2025
ruclips.net/video/FxEN-H3NFKM/видео.html
I have never seen an Excavator operator work so slow.
Slow and steady wins the race - no prizes for rushing a demolition job and scattering material over a well trafficked area causing damage
Platz für Neues. Da merkt man erst wie die Zeit vergeht, wie sich ein Stadtbild ändert.
Ja, tatsächlich / Yes, indeed
I wonder if the brick is going to be recycled some how? It seems to be a bit of a waste if not.
I'm really not sure - I believe that re-cycling is undertaken whenever possible. It makes economic sense besides any other factor. I will try and find out.
Crunch time!
ROFL - well phrased, Gary

Hey Mike, Great meeting you today.. Video was up quickly
Good to meet you too - nothing like striking while the iron is hot ! Not too hard to pull this one together - thanks for watching
That corner will look a bit different
Indeed it very likely will - but the accommodations will be considerably more comfortable and efficient
That was very entertaining! I have never seen that kind of of perspective before of a demolition. Thanks Mike!
Well - that's good to hear, Scott - love watching professionals like this team at work.
Nice sharing & Love from Armenia
Absolutely thrilled to hear from Armenia - every best wish from Canada. Thanks for taking a moment to comment.
CT sucks... more of a grocery store and home ware store.
Sorry you feel that way - I'm just providing an update on a construction project
I would never go there for auto repairs but it looks nice. There will be even more illegal turns at the bus entrance after this opens.
There's also a new entrance to the mall going in on the SJAMB side
Don - it's one of the great things about Canada that you can choose where you get service. You may be correct about the illegal turns off Bath Road east-bound, but someone else has already pointed out that a new entrance to the mall might just reduce that risk. Thanks for following the progress of this project
Must be difficult to position your drone exactly right for the progress shots!
Marc - thank you for recognising the challenge. Actually, it's a little easier than you might think (should I admit that ??). Some months ago, I selected a particular spot on the ground over which I hover the drone. Then, I take it to a particular height (drones are remarkably precise in their ability to position themselves and maintain a location and altitude. With these two factors under control, it's just a matter of aiming the camera in a particular direction (identified by an angle on a building) and depressing the gimbal to a precise angle. It's not a perfect system, but I can make minor adjustments for perfect placement in the video editing suite. Now, all my secrets are out there !
Anything that is soft with no sharp tones . I understand the dilemma
Thank you for understanding, Don
Not a fan of the music, but appreciate the videos
I understand - it's a constant struggle for me to find appropriate backing tracks. Without one, it's a very sterile video, but finding something that everyone can live with is really hard.
More made in China crap, just what we need. Buy Canadian made.
Even after all thus time I am still impressed with how construction continues in winter.
I agree completely. There's very little that can stop a determined Canadian construction crew. The secret lies in knowing when conditions make it just too dangerous to continue !
In Deutschland nennt man so etwas Baumarkt.
I really enjoyed learning about Basel and the shopping opportunities. Canadian Tire is a national institution and sells an amazing array of products, not just hardware. I may have to make a video about that.
Let us know if you intend to do a story on the Kingston Mills locks. Been away for 50 years and just got back. Be nice to see how it's changed.
Andy - I would love to tell the story of Kingston Mills Locks, but Parks Canada, the administering agency do not permit drone flights over them. However, before that ban was instituted, I did make this video four years ago ruclips.net/video/UeVU5Ey45JI/видео.htmlsi=MZ4wMBo8FNbUQy1y
I will always miss the Kingston Centre shopping mall.
Bruce - I feel for you. I didn't know it, but you're by no means the only person who has told me that they miss it. Thanks for watching.
The mall was a much more lively place than it is now. The mall has been gone a long time now and this particular commercial development zone feels like its failed to live up to what it replaced.
Always a great video - thank you
Aaron - I'm not so sure about that, but I really appreciate you saying so - thank you
Great footage and soundtrack,,,,very impressive
Thanks Mike - I do try.... Selecting the music is the hardest thing for me
Excellent recap.......thanx
Really pleased that you found it helpful. Thanks for taking a moment to provide some positive feedback
I am enjoying your videos very much. For the curious, like myself, it's nice to know what's going on where.
Providing an insight into the great work done by the crafts and trades is a really important ingredient of what I do. It's also important to document projects like this - history as it happens. If no one does so, there is no record to consult in the future. Thank you, Joy
I do like your presentation and choice of music. That static position shot of the changing facade was very good.
Thanks so much - I have quite a selection of the same shot to allow a fuller picture of the process to be painted later.
Thanks Mike - any word on future plans for the current CTC store?
I have heard nothing officially, but there is a report that it may become a fitness centre
I've heard this rumour as well, that it will potentially house the GoodLife fitness after the current location close for re-development
I'm not a huge CT fan, but love the iconic sign! Nice job, Mike!
@@DonJoyce thanks Don - this has been a big project
Really shaping up.
It certainly is - thanks for watching and commenting - all appreciated
I watch all of your videos and I prefer the ones with out music, just you giving a description. However this is just my personal preference. At the moment here in Costa Rica, there is NO snow. 😂
I sympathise - but one drawback of drones is the fact that no ambient sound is recorded. Unless I can synchronise another source, music fills a void...
Good update, Mike!
Praise from the master is always appreciated - thank you
Another great update Mike! Hats off to these guys as It always amazes me how they can keep producing quality work in such cold conditions no matter the work site. Loving the change in music, got me bopping this morning...lol.
Oh Scott - music selection is the hardest part of this whole process. I'm sure that not everyone will like it - but glad you did. Yes, this project is a long haul, but it will be so worthwhile - and it has not been without the odd unexpected challenge for a dedicated team
Yes, me too.
@@Aerosnapper If it helps I really appreciate the efforts you put into the music.
🚧
Thanks for this, as always! It is great to get the views I wouldn't have. Keep it up!!
Cheers, Ray, I think... If they / you can keep working, I can certainly keep showing off the effort being put in to get this major improvement on line
@@Aerosnapperany updates on the status of the Wolf Islander IV?
Always nice videos to keep me informed.
That's really good to hear, Edward - thank you
Enjoyed the video and hope to see more.
Do you know if there are drones flying over the north end of Kingston, kinda over the AlCan land? I can see several flying from my apartment on John Counter
David - I don't know of any specific flights around that area, but there are 107,000 drones over 250g flying in Canada - and likely at least as many smaller ones. They are a fairly common sight nowadays. Please let me know if the ones you see are causing any concern.
How often do they charge the engines did they not change 1 last year and you did say there is correct
Ron - I can’t give you a definitive answer. Someone has commented that they are cycled through every four years. It’s also been suggested that they are removed for service on reaching a certain number of hours. Since there are four of them on this boat, it’s not surprising to see a change relatively regularly.
Video’s of a Boy.
I see your name and I start to squirm What magical lesson am I about to learn On a cold day in January we say goodbye to a Cat And a quick replacement and that is that...
🍺for the Worker - good Job
They certainly deserve a hot chocolate on a day like that.... Thank you for thinking of them
It has been quite properly pointed out that the weight of the Caterpillar 3412 Marine Diesel engine is variable. Whilst a ballpark figure of about 6,000 lbs is reasonable - that's actually about 3 tons (I may have got my pounds and kilograms mixed up ! - but fortunately not with the same consequences as the Gimli Glider)
It's a very fine ferry.
It is indeed - but it has been dogged by bad luck. When appropriate infrastructure is in place, she will defy all the critics
Excellent coverage MIke! Fascinating process . . .
Thank you, Gary - I certainly love to see professionals at work. This team does great work despite the near constant criticism of the service provided by the Province from some quarters.
The 3400 series engines have been around for a long time. Great engine for sure, yes I worked for Cat for many years. Check your weight it's off a lot LOL
OMG - that's terrible news - I took that weight from a Caterpillar site. Please share the real weight and I'll pin it to the top of the comments and correct it in the description. These engines go through an awful lot of cycles - almost bomb-proof I'm told.
@@Aerosnapper you said 6,00 pds, that's correct. It can very depending on it's cooling system - but that's 3 tons not 6 🙂
@@CanandianPeriod thank you - reading more, the weight can be quite a range, depending on application.. nothing's straightforward.. much appreciated feedback
Interesting project!
It is indeed. Just a shame that it's such a distance for me to cover.
Monday 1/20/25: Temperature at -17c. What a great day to fly a drone!
Fun!!!
Every time - but just a little chilly
Had to stop after 5 seconds. The music is very annoying!
Sorry about that Marc - I've asked around and someone suggested that it's possible to get around that by turning the volume down......
Yup winter flying is challenging.... Gloves make it really challenging!
They do indeed, Chuck - especially when you're using the motion controller - someone should tell DJI that we need an 'Arctic Trigger'
@Aerosnapper yikes. Can't imagine. I flew Mavic 3 in MN in the cold once. Only once. 5 minutes in my fingers hurt... Had to bring her back and could barely fold it to put it away!
@@Kovaction If you can still touch your thumb to your pinky, you're still good to go.
