Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you remember the site #? Heading there in August and I like the end corner site.
Great video! Quick question here for a newbie. Does KOA give you any heartache about your dog? We also have a pittie mix and, from what I’ve seen, most campgrounds have some sort of breed restriction. Just want to see what your experience was. Thanks!
There is not way of sugar coating it, but the scene of the women burning out is retarded because the writers has no idea how the power works. A circle has the same inbuilt function as angreal, where it prevents the channelers from drawing enough to burn out.
Had a great time watching all of these. It was so refreshing to have both a "non-book-reader" and someone who's read the series several times have such a positive and insightful take. The last episode was weak (albeit with a couple of great moments) but I really enjoyed the season overall. Looking forward to your takes on season 2. I wouldn't hold my breath about getting more than 8 episodes but apparently the CG budget and the budget overall have been increased.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! I recently read that they won't get more episodes but hopefully the increased budget will make a difference!
The lan quote to nynaeve came from book 1….
That is correct. Different context though. In book one he uses the line to basically tell her "I'm no good for you" and break things off.
Yea, I didn't realize that til after recording but I think the fact that they hooked up made it seem like it was form way later in the books. Thanks for watching and commenting!
One of the things about the relationship is that starting season two Egwane is going to think that Rand is dead... Who knows how long she's going to think he's dead
Good point! sets up a great reveal when she finds out that he's actually alive.
The manetherin speech and song is still my favorite part 🧡... I really hope that they continue to lean into the body horror aspect like the bat scene
I agree, and I think they will lean into that kinda stuff moving forward cuz there's a lot of material from the books to do it
I love that Moraine at the end of the episode says "they are here for you" look at Rand ..."all of you" then looks at the others...😅
haha i didn't really notice that!
(Regarding Perrin's wife being upset) "It was setting stuff up to pay off later. But I don't like the payoff"... That is *exactly* how I felt. Perrin not being 100% loyal is antithetical to who he is in the books. And I already didn't like the wife fridging, they found a way to make it worse.
Regarding the cold open… once again this is not the book, it’s television. An actor/actress shows a lot of emotion in their face. Cover her face and you wouldn’t see the pain or anger we see on her face if the mask covers a portion of her face. The televised version is not the book, it can’t be. How many years can the story told? Hence the statement, “based upon the novel”. The key word is “based”.
This cold open was a total 10/10 for me! I think it’s totally ok for people to want the writers to try to stay true to the book but the show will have to change a few things here and there for television!!! Let us know what you think or our episode 8! Thanks for watching!
Episode 8 spoiler: I know you’re wondering how Rand and Egwene will break up. I think a big part is Rand leaving the Eye and having everyone think he died. That choice will do it.
I think so too. I think in the final episode when Rand let’s go of the idea of the perfect simple life with Egwane - it will be easier for them to split on normal friendly terms as well!
It’s awesome that Brittany liked the song they played during the Lan and Nynaeve scenes. On the soundtrack it’s called Mashiara (Lost Love) and it’s a word from the books (book readers know where and why 😉). They played it in episode 3 too when Lan was watching Nynaeve collect herbs.
Thank you so much for letting me know. I am going to go back to ep.3 and check it out. I really starting noticing late into my rewatch and I am really enjoying it now. I will def be on the look out going forward as well!!
I'm a non-book reader, and I have to say that I'm opposite to both of you on the Nynaeve/Lan and the Egwene/Rand romances. For me the Nynaeve, Lan thing was way too fast, the show makes a point that they have hardly talked, and then we have Nynaqeve stalking (ugh) Lan, him being fine with it and then them having sex. I'm not even saying it's unrealistic, but I definitely wasn't invested in their relationship. Whereas with Egwene and Rand, the show makes it clear they are in a long standing relationship, it's going through some difficulties, but they both really care for each other, so I cared about them. As for the Perrin love triangle thing, I don't ess it that way. Perrin had feelings for Egwene, but egwene and Rand were a thing so Perrin moved on. He married his wife but still had a soft spot for Egwene. He accidentally kills his wife, and I think it's entirely understandable that a tiny (repressed) voice in his head is scared that his killing his wife had something to do with his feeling for Egwene. He still soves Egwene, but is not IN love with her, so he sticks up for her when he thinks Rnd is being unfair to her. The main problem was Nyneave (who I'll admit I don't like) who thinks she knows best and sticks her two cents into a fight that had nothing to do with her.
First, thank you for listening and commenting!!! So, I love this take actually! While I still am not a fan of the E&R and gives me a major eye roll 🙄 every time it’s comes up… lol. I do actually get what you mean. I speak a lot to things being too fast and not really earned and I can see how you can feel that way about N&L. While I love that N&L are getting to know each other and even sleeping together… the writers kind of ruin in in the next episode. Please listen to our episode 8 review and let me know what you think! Also, N is my favorite - so we will have to agree to disagree on that! LOL!! Thank you, again
Book reader here, I can see both of your points. And so far I'm keeping my cringe re the triangle at bay. But I'm just super glad to see how Lan/Nynaeve have progressed. Talking a lot (or Lan willing to admit to Moiraine how much they're talking) or not they've been traveling together for over a month, for some of which, even if just for a day or two, it was just the two of them caring for Moiraine. They've had some really meaningful moments up to that point and they're both of an age where we've established cultural norms wouldn't be against them having sex. Unlike the books where Emonds Field is far more reserved. For me it's like, here's someone you've known for a few weeks, been around almost every hour during that time, shared a personal moment or two, and then you know the next day you're going off to what could possibly be your death. You share a really private family moment and have essentially the perfect date, and then in true Malkieri fashion Lan defers to her to make the first move. Which she does. I think it's fair. But I admit my bias, it's impossible to read the books and not feel tons of love towards this couple.
@@thane9 I understand, but as someone who has only seen them talk a few times, I'm just not invested in their relationship. As far as I've seen, they've had one short meaningful conversation, and some glances and in passing talks. That's a flirtation, it might grow into the love of your life, but at the end of the season I'm just not seeing it. E/R on the other hand had years growing up together, and were already in a physical relationship when we met them. I have been spoiled enough to know that N/L will grow into a great love story, whereas D/R is going to die off, but at this time, I believe that E/R are in love and N/L are just flirting with it.

This episode is tied with ep 7 as my favorite ep. I love Nynaeve, so I love episodes where she is heavily featured.
Yes!! I love her! Both the girls remind me of myself at different times in my life and that is so enjoyable. The actor that plays nynaeve really captures the that balance between being both so confident and also a bit insecure…but also just so courageous! I know that sounds like A LOT - but she just reminds me of myself and I love her for capturing that!
By this episode I knew as a fellow book reader that this show was not for me to many changes from the book and the show just kept getting worse for me I don't like how the three boys were handled at all I honestly don't think this show will last past the second season
I understand where you're coming from, once I accepted the changes it became much easier to like the show. It was the biggest show of the year despite all the challenges of filming during covid and it's already been picked up for a 3rd season so I don't think it's gong anywhere unless they totally blow it next season.
I just wish they would have been more true to the books I knew that you have to cut things to make the story go faster but where is caemlyn and why replace that with tar valon and the show does not talk about the difference between the two halves of the one power. where is the green man and why did they give what rand did with pure saidin at tarwin gap to other people that's his moment to shine after the made him lame in the show I just have a bad feeling everything great a man should do in book they are going to give it to the ladies in the show I hope I am wrong but I don't think I will be. I hope they actually leash egwene too
@@kensu89 I agree with a lot of what you're saying. Some of the changes, especially in the last episode, bothered me as well but I also think they had to rewrite a lot of stuff due to losing the actor playing Mat. The saidar/saidin thing is weird as well becuase they did a whole amimated short about the difference between the 2 and I don't know why they didn't further make it clear in the show. I'm hopeful it's cuz they have a bigger plan for season 2 and they were limited cuz of covid.. That said, if they continue down this path next season its not gonna be good.
@@cbtv5226 "once i accepted that it was no longer the wheel of time and a badly written vehicle for leftwing american sociopolitics, i was able to better enjoy the show that appropriated the name of the wheel of time"
As a non book reader, I have to say that the way you've described gleemen from the books I'm SO grateful they went with the Thom we've got on the show. The gleeman you described might have worked well in the books, but to see that portrayed by an actor, cringey and annoying. (The annoying bard from Witcher) This Thom has gravitas, and presence.
I actually agree with that especially now that we've seen him in the next episode. It just threw me at first but I'm liking the new direction for him, way more realistic.
I loved y’all’s commentary!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!

While the episodes could have been longer, Emond's Field couldn't have been two episodes. The episodes are visual metaphors for the books. Episode 1 is book 1 Episode 2 is book 2 and 3 Episode 3 is book 4 and 5 Episode 4 is book 6 and 7 Episode 5 is 8 and 9 Episode 6 is 10 and 11 Episode 7 is 12 and 13 Episode 8 is 14 The White Cloaks in Episode 2 are the end of book 2 The Mat and the Dagger is the end of book 3 Mat giving Perrin the Dagger is Rand being marked.
I never really thought of it that way and it's a super interesting concept! Thanks for watching and commenting!
My question to non book readers. How confused are you on the plot and themes of the story? What are the themes of the story to you? Additionally what of the main 5 characters? What do you think their motives are?
Hey there! So, I have to say, if I watched the show by itself only, I would be really confused. Amazon had some really GREAT additional material that somewhat filled in the gaps and gave some really great world history but I don't understand why they weren't incorporated into the show better. I know Chip wishes that they stayed a little closer to the source material better. In our reviews, I speak a lot to the fact that I don't know much about the characters and I don't know what their relationship is - which is really terrible. One of my the common things about great shows is the character development and growth. Also, Perrin and Mat are both weirdly written in a negative way and even though Rand is the dragon reborn - he doesn't have anything cool happen to him. My hope for the show is that they fix this - I think there are positives. The characters are all acted well and really likeable actually but I think there is a ton of growth that the show needs to do and I hope they do. Thank you so much for your comment!
@@brittanyc7583 this is what I thought. I can get over some of the changes if the non book fans understand the characters, themes and the world building/ magic system. But it seems they don't and that's what frustrates me. I don't even think the non book readers even understand the stakes at play fully. To me the biggest theme in the books that keep coming up time and time again is that when men and women work together they succeed in defeating the dark. But when they separate the light loses. I don't see this theme in the show at all which is disheartening. And you're right. The main male characters are pretty much side characters
@@Dovieandi_Se_Tovya_Sagain Hey there - Sorry it took me so long to respond. I totally agree with you on a lot of what you said. I think it is extremely hard to understand the magic system and many times there are contradictions that make it even more confusing. As far as the stakes, I totally agree - we really don't have any idea what we are really fighting for and I guess that is how they wanted to present this version of the story but I wish they would have given it a little more consideration when trying to make non-readers interested in watching past season 1. So after really thinking about the season and re-watching a few times and even listening to my thoughts again...I kind of think no character really really pays off that much. I do agree that female characters got a little more action...but overall, I have no idea or feel connected to many of the characters except maybe Moiraine, Nynaeve, and possibly Mat but that is only because of their acting and less about their storyline or the writing for them.
My question to non book readers. How confused are you on the plot and themes of the story? What are the themes of the story to you?
06:41 Good point about Perrin's analogy with the previous Dragon. If only they'd told us what the previous Dragon did, then it could have been a clue to the Who Is The Dragon mystery.
I agree, the only reason Britt knew about it is cuz we watched the animated short that explains what the previous dragon did before watching the episode but it would have been better if they explained it in the actual episode. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
The whole season is filled with the “you should just know” moments. Lol

Love Britt's thoughts on this . . . I feel like we had the exact same thoughts and reactions as people that haven't read the books before! Thankful that I also had a partner to tell me what was going on in some places and to connect some dots. My first experience with the fantasy genre was Game of Thrones and I've come a long way since then - but as a person that wasn't previously involved in this genre of shows, books, movies, I feel like this is a tough one to just jump into. Great wrap-up from you guys! Can't wait to see what you guys thought of the finale!!
