Ozawa is diffictult to follow when he starts a new movement. He must have told them, "Start playing after I raise my arm straight up in the air 3 times.

An interesting fact about this 4th part is that, Bartók,within 4':30", not only used the "Merry widow" Danilo's song tune, but also another melody, which was a slightly altered popular song from an operetta; "Szép vagy, gyönyörű vagy, Magyarország". It appears after the introduction, at 1':02", played by the violas.
I think this movement of the "concerto" is just perfection.

2:27 is my favorite part! You can definitely hear the clarinets!
I consider Concerto's Finale to have one of the most (if not the most) fantastic endings in classical music.

The 2nd movement of Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra is sheer delight! I Love the bassoons, oboes, and muted trumpets! Outstanding playing by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa!

If you conceive of the second movement (Giucco delle copie) as depicting Christ's Resurrection on Easter you might s well go on and call Elegia as a mystic Pentecostal vison - powerful; the Holy Spirit is palpably there.
Could it be that the chorale implies Christ's Resurrection on Easter? The Easter chorale amounts to a mystical vision of the Godhead whose frame leads up to this vision and concludes it effectfully.
Bartok was an atheist, so that's a big no. Question answered.

This somewhat reminds me of Rite of Spring.

I think the record was made before 2015... When Seiji Ozawa conducted the Wiener Neujahrs Concert in 2002 he was so much older then here
Still had the inredible Buddy Wright on clarinet here...but Walt was gone and Doriot was gone...once Wright was gone Boston once again has the mediocre WW section!!!!!
Love that sneeze at 4:15

On my favorite pieces of music of all- time! One can tell that Be'la Barto'k was a musical genius, when one listens to ANY of his music!
Holy shmazola. These musicians are not human. How do fingers fly that fast?
Oedipa brought me here.
i expected it to be drier and more disconsolate.
