I have been working on rehabbing my feet. Doing an 11 mile test hike with my pack to see if I can continue this season or if it will be continued until 2025. Enjoy the journey!
PCT 2024 Update - Is hiking more of the PCT this year still possible?
Просмотров 88Месяц назад
Here is the latest update on my foot pain and whether or not I am still trying to get back on the PCT this year. I am now a LASH and that is okay. Continuing to hike is what matters even if it is in sections. Enjoy the Journey.

Car Camping - July 23 - 27. California and Oregon.

Car camping has been a fun adventure so far. Beautiful scenery and some interesting places. From my campsite overlooking the ocean, to a private spot in the woods to camping within feet of a landing strip and brewery at the same time! Waking up to a rooster and sea lions at the same time to awesome shots of seals at Seal Rock are all a part of this car camping episode. Enjoy the journey.

PCT 2024 - Hiking Day 52 - Frustration and Disappointment.
Просмотров 2232 месяца назад
I gave it another attempt at getting back on trail. Listening to my body can be hard, but it is the right thing to do and it isn't giving me much choice. I don't feel done with the trail which is why this is so frustrating. I believe that everything happens for a reason, so some additional rest is in order and we will see when I can try again. Enjoy the journey.

I hit 700 miles and made it to Kennedy Meadows!!! I talk about my thoughts on why 700 miles means so much to me and a reminder that out of this entire journey; doing the desert section was my very first plan. I have not done anything like this before. I am really proud of this huge accomplishment. Enjoy the journey.

    I so enjoyed meeting you in Brookings last week. You so remind me of me when i started Rving...Gosh has it been that long ago? ... over 20 years ago! First, I rushed from place to place because i still had a business to get back to. Then I sold my business and still I rushed> I wanted to see everything and figured I was old then so not much time left. Then I traveled with a gal who said she only does 200 miles a day. What? She taught me the RV rule. Drive only 200 miles, stop by 2pm, and stay 2 days (at least) If I were to put my 78-year-old two cents worth in. I learned to slow down when I moved here to Curry County. where their slogan is "There's no hurry in Curry." For a gal who chased the dollar all her life, this concept was life changing. My late husband was part Cherokee. He could sit out on our patio for hours. I thought he was simple minded. I was so young! and foolish! (About your age, Jim) Anyway, I love you and what you're doing. Be kind to yourself. You surely have a pack of souls, or angels as some folks call them, following you and your wife. It's time you see the goodness of what you have done for so many. Thene's a fantastic author Luis Alberto Urea. The Devil's Highway is one of his books. Urea says, "We must speak for those who cannot." What have you done and what are doing now? You are showing others that nothing is impossible. Sorry rambled on for so long.This is why I write books and not short stories! :)

    One day at a time, stay flexible. Too much focus on keeping a schedule leads to missing out on 90% of the adventure and schedule obsesion is also linked to a large proportion of avoidable trail tragedies and injuries. Semper Gumby says smiles are better than miles.

    Far Out's mapping is actually accurate. The Sierra begins at Tehachapi Pass. From Tehachapi to KMS is the Southern Sierra, some sections of which are referred to as high desert.

    • @Jim_Just_Walkin
      @Jim_Just_Walkin 2 месяца назад

      When there is a creek you can use the creek water to clean up, but you should always collect the water and move at least 100 yards away from any water source to clean yourself and clothing. So to not contaminate the water source.

    Have been following your trek since Campo. You're doing a great job! I was going to reserve comment until I "caught up" with your videos, but was interested about two things. Brain fog: This could be partially caused by your inadequate calorie intake. Some of my job is in hospitals, and I've seen patients who have had similar symptoms. Their bodies adjust to their starvation conditions and establish new survival protocols. It's all subconcious and automatic, and the brain fog is a result of the brain shutting down higher functions. Out on the trail, you have probably subconsciously established your "survival protocols" and focus on them only, and the confusion sets in on town days when "higher functions" that have been idled to conserve fuel (kind of like the Voyager spacecraft powering down unnecessary equipment) suddenly are necessary, and you have to make a concerted effort to break through the brain fog and start using idled functions again. Of course, as a thru-hiker, your brain fog experience is imcredibly mild compared to hospitalized patients who have been malnourished for months. Trail completion monument in Acton: This monument celebrates the completion of a legal, continuous footpath from border to border. However, the intended, final alignmemt of the trail has yet to be realized. If that can ever be accomplished, the trail will likely extend further west through the Transverse Ranges and loop around back to Tehachapi without descending to the desert floor. In the "old days," the trail ended its westward extension (maybe in Big Bear or Wrightwood), and the desert floor traverse was much longer heading north to around Mojave and then to Tehachapi or Walker Pass. Was happy to see you hiking with someone. Also, enjoyed your video of Vasquez Rocks. Gorn are the days ... 😊 Wherever this comment may find you, please -- Be safe; keep at it!
