I'd avoid using sanding paper as even the fine grits eat away some material and stick with a metal polish/red scrotch brite pad using only hand, this way you could get away with restoring it as many times as you want.

Finally someone confirming that the S1000r does that and it's totally alright. Initially I was super afraid as I bought a used bike and also jumped from 150cc to a big bike. But as time passed, I began to love it immensely. I don't think the sound is unpleasant rather it feels like a tough guy clearing his throat's. I love that sound when it happens.

No brother, adjust compression, preload should be fixed to your weight relative to the static and rider sag. Preload moves you in the curve. Damping changes the actual curve. Tired of you dumbasses thinking preload stiffens the suspension. It’s a linear spring. The rate does not change.
