William Shatner has gotten a lot of grief over Star Trek 5 over the years, but honestly the movie's heart is in the right place. There are lots of nice individual moments throughout, and Sybok is a nicely written 'villain' engagingly played by Luckinbill. Apparently Shatner's initial inspiration was televangelists who claimed to be the Lord's emissaries on Earth while clearly bleeding their viewers for cash, but in the process of writing, Sybok developed into a much better character: he is himself driven and motivated by his beliefs and isn't a bad-guy so much as simply misguided himself. The 'God creature', whatever it is, is more the analogue for religious charlatanism, and Sybok is one of it's victims in the end.

There were 400 some people on the Enterprise. How does he know that only Spock was from a planet other than earth? Spock was symbolic that there were other nonEarthlings on the ship. (Some of the novels expand on this.) Sorry, but Adam was a kid. And he and his father were not exactly talking for several years. If I had to talk about my father's job...even though I heard him talking about it at dinner...I wouldn't be able to. I'll trust Leonard Nimoy's book about Star Trek. My sympathies to AN, but....geez. I hope he can help others, however. Peace, Adam, but really...live off your own talent - and it's good talent. Love your work. It's yours.

Admiral Nechayev was right. 359 wasn't Picard's fault. Everyone who died (or worse) after Picard wimped out on the Borg-killer virus was.

I loved the way you brought courage, guts and common sense to TNG and DS9.

He brings an interesting complexity and drama to Discovery. The directors ,producers and writers have done an excellent job. Discovery 5 is going out, all engines firing.

I think career character actors can be some of the most interesting people on the planet. And I smiled to when William revealed that he used his farm as a giant science fiction set. This brings back many happy childhood memories for me of the long summers of far less accomplished play acting on my cousins' farm in Cavan, Ireland.

Dale is the real deal. If people disagree with him so much pn his technique they should train with him.
