Actually, you can indeed petition the Lord with prayer... notwithstanding the artistic expression of hopelessness or whatever character is lamenting this- whether it be the actual belief of JM or RK.. notwithstanding. The Lord hears the cries of the righteous, those who look to him for salvation from sin & death, through belief in the gospel, the good news, of Jesus Christ. Let's be careful not to take a lyric which sounds so authoritative, or from a voice so esteemed- as Truth. Neither make a statement Truth.
