Dr Pattison, powdered glass to bulk up paint, and sand for texture had been in use at least since the 18thC. And you really need to take another look at Gris, there are paintings thickly painted, and others thinly painted. His surfaces are far from uniform.

Im glad you mention how unrealistically small the horse is, now I cant unsee it lol
Thank you for the tremendously interesting discussion!
Brilliant, thank you so much for this.
Very interesting stuff. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Most of the talk was very interesting but it fell apart once they allowed questions to be asked. So the time allowed for real information about the relationship between Soane and Turner was unfortunately curtailed. The notes of the conversations recorded on Turner’s visits to Pitzhanger would have been fascinating but were just quickly alluded to for the sake of finding out which fish was which etc during the pointless question session. What a wasted opportunity. Still, up till then I was fascinated.
At last a programme about frames! Whenever I come to the UK it's often paintings which are still in their original contexts which I prefer over just paintings in lines on walls. Maybe that's why people love Italian cities when looking at art. Great talk. Thanks.
Thank you. We will be hosting another online talk about framing in late April. Please subscribe to our newsletter to learn more: londonartweek.co.uk/subscribe/
I feel like the Folio Society replica of this book from their 2002 limited editions did it justice.... they spared no expense, and I'd imagine it costs a fraction of an original.
I would not consider Illanes an Aymara artist as much as Diego Rivera is a Mexica artist in contrast to a more correct Mexican artist. There is a distorted analysis in trying to fit artist and art in prefabricated molds. Is Alandia Pantoja or Arturo Borda indigenist because they used indigenous traits? Are they Aymara or Quechua artist because they were mestizos like most if not all Bolivians? It’s positive that the work of Illanes, a Bolivian artist is recognized but a pity that the analista of its work is done is such a superficial and paternalistic way.
thanks for this video about the greatest artist

36:20... Albrect Durer calling....
Women or men, Christians, Muslims, Jews or Buddhists, Europeans, Asians or Americans, painters must have qualities that make them the artists we know and appreciate, because it is their creations that interest us and not their sex, race or nationality. To say that ''Many of these British women artists fell into obscurity'' is more than rare stupidity. Indeed, because your arguments are tendentious, and therefore pitiable.
he has a nice way of explaining things
Thank you so much for such a great and informative lecture. I hope to find more videos on maiolica in Bargello. Unfortunately, I can see only two on Friends of the Bargello website, but they are not as deep as this one.
An awful selection of paintings and artists, excepting the wonderful Michelina Wautier, all the others were third-rate artists. Have you heard of Anne Vallayer-Coster (1744-1818), Louise Moillon (1610-1696), Anna Dorothea Therbusch (1721-1782), Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) or Bertha Wegmann (1857-1926)? If you intended to promote women artists you chose the wrong ones.
A brilliant talk, bravo Jorge and Will, and thank you London Art Week!
I Love Hylton's work…. I met him and Bernard for the first time at Metal Snake in Port Elizabeth last century around 1985. I Also loved visiting their beautiful home in PE …. Bernard grew fantastic orchids

Fantastic. Thank you.
I'm extremely grateful that even during a Pandemic we're still able to have these intensely important historical cultural appreciation talks about artists as well the fine arts of antiquity. During times of stress we must never loose sight of some of the greatest parts of our humanity, moments like these allow us to always keep within our reach the full measure of our progressiveness.
Really looking forward to this exhibition!

Wonderful! Very informative...so grateful he wrote letters and documented his travels, as well as they are reflected in the work he produced. Very heartfelt portrait of Durer! Several works I have never seen, many of silver points. Looking forward to the catalogue. If only I could visit!!!
Fascinating!
Thank you for the fascinating presentation of these two outstanding artists!
Why the dislikes?
