The Hardest Decision I Ever Made! How I overcame fear and finally left my Fortune 100 job.
Просмотров 537Год назад
It took me three years to make the decision to leave my Fortune 100 Corporate career. It's risky to make a change! Especially when the path you're on is so set and secure, and the path you want is full of unknowns. In this video, I open up and share about the five fears I've experienced in making a career change. I've felt these five fears when making ANY major life change. As I've learned to m...
Three Reasons Why Small Businesses Stay Small... Learnings as we scale to thousands of employees
Просмотров 95Год назад
The last 6 months have been a WILD ride! I went from working for the largest US Oil & Gas company, to starting an e-commerce company (www.meihuastudio.com), to taking a director position in a fast-growing small business. In my day-to-day, I interact with our operations, our sales leads and our new clients. From all of those experiences, I've collected my thoughts on why small businesses (even t...

THANK YOU
Seems true. Since your shorts seems to advertise more for Grant Cardone, then for yourself ;)
OOOOOOOR maybe your overworking employee is overworked??? maybe even burnt out??? almost like..."why am I overworking myself when I get nothing from it?" an employer is not your family, I have no loyalty to people who underpay good work. PAY your WORKERS something that is LIVABLE, if you can buy a huge homes and your worker cannot pay rent, GIVE THEM A RAISE.
Maybe employers should quit working their employees like slaves.
Maybe your employees fairly🤔🤔 maybe its your fault not theirs😮🤯🤔
Have you been to the 10x 360 event? How did it go?
Thanks for uploading this.
Good job Sarah! I’ve worked with you before. You have the brain to make this channel work!
Also, what did he mean when he said “don’t give people money, give them opportunities”? I think I understand but just wanted some clarity. Thanks!
Great question! The broader context of "don't give people money, give them opportunities" is to give people (i.e. those that work in the company) an OPPORTUNITY to make more money. I could have better connected this quote back to the idea of incentives. Grant's point was that you need to massively incentivize your team to go above and beyond. Create incentive programs that really motivate your team to push to huge goals. Those that WANT to earn more money, have the opportunity to do so! But don't simply give people raises or give "hand-outs".. give people the opportunity to make more money, with clear guidelines on how exactly they can achieve their own financial goals within your company.
Loved this video! I will say there word graphics were a little too strong and deemphasized the points you were making. Just a thought 🙏🏾 Keep up the great content 😁
Thanks for loving the video and for the encouragement, Pork Rhyne! And thanks for the feedback.. feedback always welcome!!
Hey girl! Love love love seeing you doing you! Sending the best vibes for ya!
Dayana! Hello friend!! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! It was really nice seeing your name pop up.. took me on a mini trip down memory lane back to Baytown. I hope everything is going so fantastic for you and that you're loving life!
Good for you! I’m glad you were able to face your fears and step into the “unknown”, so to speak. I took that risk 2 years ago. I left my engineering job that I hated with absolutely no backup plan. I was afraid, for sure. But it ended up being the best decision I ever made. After a 10 month sabbatical I ended up back in engineering, this time much happier and much more fulfilled because I sought only companies that had amazing culture - without compromise (knowing the toll that a toxic culture takes on your mind and body). Even though I ended up back in the corporate world, the move to “take control of my life” was extremely empowering and such a eye opening experience. I know you’ll do great things in your post-corporate life, Sarah! Stay motivated.
Leland!! I hope you're doing well! Sounds like you are!! Thank you so so much for sharing. I'm inspired by your courage. Congrats on taking control and going off of autopilot... You did what many are too afraid to do! And you're so much better off because you took that risk. Really phenomenal, thank you for sharing.
I feel that. I had to make a change myself.
Yes! Thank you for sharing! I'm glad you were able to make the change you needed!!
You have great medial deltoid development.
Thank you for your kind comment!! In a previous life I did competitive weightlifting :)
I wouldn't work for any employer that doesn't allow my labrador and maine coon cats into the office with me.
Hi Sarah newby Sunil this side, RUclips thumbnail designer How I connect with you to show some samples Sarah
Totally echo the points you’re making and how difficult it is to change the situation you’re in, and by association, your definition of who you are.

I wish you all the best Sarah! Great video and message and gives me things to contemplate as I near retirement. I’m sure your Dad is very proud of you and excited for you. The red painting is my favorite too! Take care 😀 Denise Farris
Thank you so very much, Denise!! Thank you for leaving such a kind comment. Best of luck to you as you near retirement, that is so so SO exciting!
Sarah, best wishes as you pursue your dreams. Yes, we hired you because you were smart and energetic. I'm glad you found some rewarding experiences and friendships and now wish you the best in new endeavors down the road.
Hi Larry - Thank you so much for your comment! I have such fond memories of my internships and of beginning my career working for/with you. I really learned a lot, many lessons that I will lean on as I continue my journey. Thank you for the encouragement and kind words, coming from you that really means a lot to me. I hope you're doing well!
Good luck Sarah, I’m truly happy for you and wish you the best of luck. In some ways I’m even envious :).
Thank you for the kind wishes and the kind comment. I'm equal parts excited and equal parts nervous! For me that's a good feeling, I like to try things that I'm unsure I can accomplish.. maybe that's also what drew me to engineering and to working for a top company. But it's definitely a little unsettling at times, so no need to be too too envious :)
Try having a family. That it much more compelling to most people than the day job, which is there to pay the bills that you rack up having all that fun w the fam.
That's so awesome, thanks for sharing! That you found something in life that brings you such joy and purpose :)
再见,祝你好运👍
谢谢!!!!
Good for you!!! I suspect that I work for the same company you did. I too, am on the verge of pursuing my true passions. I am retiring early regardless of the financial implications. I will be leaving the minute I am eligible to retire. I am smart, but I have always been an artist at heart, so you can probably imagine how I truly never fit in at thus O&G company. I was young and I fell into this job when I was offered a job after working as a contractor (straight out of college), I was told by everyone I’d be a fool to refuse the job offer. Now, 24 years later, I’m a shell of the person I once was. I only wish I came to this realization much sooner like you did. I wish you ALL THE BEST!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!! Truly means A LOT to me. I didn't know how this all would be received... but the encouragement coming in is really something!! I wasn't expecting it. I've found for myself that it's pretty easy to look back and wish a different decision was made... and I don't spend enough time focusing on the fact that I made the best decision for me with the information I had at that time. Looking back is 20/20! And from that you can then adjust so that your future better aligns with your passions and goals. I am so proud of you that you've decided to retire early. That's a hard decision to make!!! Very brave. I wish you all the best as well. If you end up pursuing art, please let me know! I'd love to check out a website or RUclips channel or anything that you create.
Congratulations. I too had been working for the company for a couple decades, but the past 5 years I had come to really dislike it and it affected other aspects of me. I got caught up in the 2021 stuff and was forced out. Wow, it was the best thing that could've happened. The weight of it all was lifted off of me. Now I'm free to pursue whatever I want and nolonger allow a corporate organization to define who I am and have control of anything in my life. I found the same feeling, life is way too short to be miserable for a paycheck. Good luck on your ventures and keep moving forward.
Thank you so much for sharing and for taking the time to leave a comment! Really means a lot to me, to read others stories is inspiring. I'm SO HAPPY for you that you've realized your calling is elsewhere and you're embracing it. Perhaps in the moment it was really difficult (?), but looking back you see it as a blessing. Good luck to you, too, in all that you do!
Thank you for sharing. Found this link from another site and clicked out of curiosity. Anyway we have a lot of similarities. We both work(ed) for the same company, I am from Pittsburgh and I suddenly lost my mom suddenly in 2011 when she was 54. Ironically my choice to rejoin this company was largely due to that event just as your decision influenced by yours. Best of luck on the next steps of your journey!
Hi Chad! Wow thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. Truly means a lot. I am so sorry for your loss. I am THRILLED that you had the courage to make the best decision for yourself, and thrilled that the company continues to have great people like yourself working on the really big challenges facing the world. Good for you!! Best of luck to you as well.
Hi Sarah, How come you never shared about the Mei Hua with me when we were in the same team! My bad! I saw lights in your eyes when you talk about this. Mei Hua is the Symbol of resilience passed Centuries till today. "梅花香自苦寒来!" it means "The hash time give her the pleasant, sweet smell". I don't know whether you read Chinese, but what you telling me is that you got that "message" while you look at it! That's amazing, and know you try to turn it into your business that connect with your dream! This journey is not easy, just like what the Mei Hua will experience. Because of you, I registered my RUclips account. haha! Willingness to be your free of charge of advisors if you need. while youtu. The world is filled with anger for what ever reason. I want to be the bridge on finding the common ground for this generation! Peace & Love! With you! Your Chinese ex-team members, but who hasn't truly find out who you are! Nice to meet you Again! The new you! Sarah Newby! I am thinking about what kind of Chinese Name I should give it to you!
Hi Francessco! Thank you so so much for taking the time to create an account AND leave a comment! That's a lot of effort! I'm really touched by your message. And I am sorry that I didn't share! That's on me, I was not being as open as I could have been.. I guess I was actually a little scared still to talk openly about my dreams. Agreed this is a hard path! So it means the world that I have you and the Chinese team members believing in me. ....Let me know if you come up with a good Chinese name! I've gone by 莎莎... 牛莎莎 when I am in China, but interested to see if you think of a more fitting name :)
Hi Sarah! Never really worked and talked to you personally but saw your goodbye message and was curious to know more. A lot of what you’ve said resonates but I just had this strong need to ask this question for me to better my perspective so if you could share, that’d be great - your MBTI and horoscope (just for fun!)?
Hi Felicia! Thank you SO MUCH for your comment. My MBTI is INTJ. And I'm a scorpio! I'd love to know how you think this all factors into the messaging in my video :)
@@itssarahnewby I’m not an expert, but I love reading on those so don’t quote me. Scorpios are unlike other water signs - I think you love and hate, hard, almost like a fire sign. INTJ - cool, you struck me more a an INF if anything. I’m an INFP, probably why I never get around to doing stuff I want to 🤣
@@felicianai Thanks for sharing! I had to look up that personality type... this was a good website, I think! www.16personalities.com/infp-personality For INFP, it says: "Few things make Mediators more uneasy than pretending to be someone they aren’t. With their sensitivity and their commitment to authenticity, people with this personality type tend to crave opportunities for creative self-expression. It comes as no surprise, then, that many famous Mediators are poets, writers, actors, and artists. They can’t help but muse about the meaning and purpose of life, dreaming up all sorts of stories, ideas, and possibilities along the way." Are these some of the things you like to do?? I definitely encourage you to embrace that! Side hobbies can be extremely fulfilling, sometimes you don't need a drastic change! Sometimes a side hobby is all you need to feel more in-tune with yourself.
@@itssarahnewby yep! That’s the site I use often too. I definitely identify a lot with mine, which is why I find it interesting to hear others’ MBTI! I used to invest a lot of time in those but it’s now increasingly difficult to really have work-life /balance/ - though my brain’s always having the gears moving on full drive 😂😂 It’s the ‘P’ though - we spontaneous but never get around to doing stuff like our ‘J’ counterparts; so I’m always in awe when I hear stories like yours - dropping it all to chase what really means something to you. ❤️
Thanks for sharing Sarah! Virtual hug my friend. Best of luck on your journey.
Thank you, Alex!! Virtual hug! Thanks for the support
