Get your base in wrestling then go to jiu jitsu. This is coming from a jiu jitsu practitioner. I learned BJJ before i learned wrestling. I couldn't help but choke people out which is why i stopped wrestling. But wrestling teaches you mat dominance and aggressive contact, bjj is way too lax wrestlers who learn BJJ dominate bjj guys. Its the aggression.

Personally how it was done with me i think is the correct way and its how i would do it too. As very young kid like 4/5/6 grappling focussed sports are better like judo/juijutsu/bjj/wrestling. Then when your a little bit older like 14-16 swutch to a more impact sport like kickboxing/muay thai/boxing then with like 19-20 bring it together in mma

Totally untrue bud, seriously. Every fight I’ve ever had has eventually gone to the ground in one way or another. Jiu Jitsu and other grappling arts such as wrestling are just unreal in these situations, honestly don’t knock it until you try it. Also, if you’ve got your wits about you you’ll know that in 2024, to strike somebody who’s committing a potential crime in the face could make you the convicted person despite your best intentions - therefore if you know the safe and effective ways of completely controlling someone’s body in order to restrain them as help arrives, you mitigate the risk of landing yourself in deep trouble. Another point, the ranking system of Jiu Jitsu is like no other martial art - requiring an average minimum of 10+ years of training 3x a week to attain black belt level, you become very aware very fast that there are serious levels to the game. Put it this way, if you were to get into a street fight with somebody blue belt and above (2+ years of training), you have 1 chance to knock them out before you are taken to the ground and broken. Any true martial artist also makes a conscious effort to broaden their fighting skills, so you learn the takedowns of Wrestling, the submissions of Jiu Jitsu, the striking of Boxing and Muay Thai. If you think that just knowing one martial art will suffice in a fight against a skilled martial artist then you are sorely mistaken. We appreciate you giving your opinion on these matters but don’t group Jiu Jitsu with bullshit martial arts like Aikido. It is an elite discipline that sits at the same table as Wrestling, Sambo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Judo, Boxing and Lethwei (and maybe Karate on some levels)

for kids BJJ is better than MMA. Most times the culture in MMA gyms is more of an outlet of agression for the kids rather than they actually learn techniques. Let them choose MMA on their own if they want to learn actual fighting.
