well I am bulgarian and i asked my parents, who have learned russian, and they said that it is rabbit - зайчики. But in bulgarian sunbeam are often called зайчета so it is possible that it can mean sunbeam though bulgarian is not exactly the same as russian but there are many things that are similar =]

litteral translation (not the metaphoric one) is still rabbits ;D oh the specifics of the language... at least it aint blatnyak which would be even tougher to translate and keep the rythm

мёртвым легко вдвойне means dead people got a much easier time then others... i know the translation in the texts is more poetic but the meaning is twisted quite a bit... id translate it as its easier being dead you can fit it into singing as well
