yeah ive been feeling this exact sentiment for a long time.. i dont think its any secret the ynfg scene has been very 2kki/"pretty map/game" focused for a few years now, its very disheartening considering yume nikki+fangames have always felt like a celebration of amateur-ish outsider art, usually with more character-driven themes, rather than this overly polished product to admire. theres such a hard focus on 2kki/CU/picturesque ynfg's that newer fans seem to think thats just the standard, and think other ones are bad just because of the visuals (including the ORIGINAL GAME theyre supposed to be fangames of), which is so bizarre. if people complained about yume nikki+fangames or other classic rpgmaker games a few years back for "da GRAPHICS" people would just look at you like "????" as far as people interactions ive always kept a distance outside of just talking about fangames within dedicated yno channels on discord (specifically the lesser played ones since barely anyone talks there), ive talked a bit to some genuinely cool people but overall ive heard The Stories and it just makes me feel like im right not to bother socializing any more than that :\ on a brighter note i have actually been starting to see a little more love for the underappreciated games the past few months, hopefully it keeps growing. theres definitely still people that feel the same way about the fangames and community but its kinda hard to find like-minded people nowadays. also i think your "play all fangames" series is one of the coolest things any ynfg fan has done and i hope you dont completely give it up! same with Threshold i still think about that game often, it has a really cool vibe and it genuinely feels like something straight out of the early 2010s which i am all about lol (long ass comment sorryyy i care about this sort of thing maybe a little too much)

I've experienced and watched pretty much every close friend in this fandom encounter drama, bad people and honestly just give up on trying to interface or having to rebrand, hiatus or disappear. I have taken so many breaks from the game, I stopped streaming 2kki its so overwhelming. I don't play YNO outside of private mode, I don't want to be social in the game. I love 2kki, I put so much time and care into the game, speedruns and trying to create a community around it. Its too much for me and I know your story and many other peoples stories. Lets just enjoy the god damn game.

I’m completely out of touch on this; I rarely interact directly with other fans of anything I like online, but I totally get the frustration with overly critical fans. I don’t believe in comparing art linearly, like with tier lists and things of that variety, and it frustrates me so much when I get told “Oh you’re playing that? That game is mid, this one is better.” It’s like they don’t actually care about engaging with the media they’re “critiquing” beyond a mindless thumbs up or thumbs down like a baby at a test-screening. Sorry for the slight tangent. Basically just don’t let annoying people hamper your enjoyment of Yume Nikki fangames. You’re obviously really passionate about the games, and if you have more fun playing them with just family or close friends rather than to an audience, then you should do that!

STUDYMAAAAN UPLOAAAD :v personally i kinda sorta like "scary uncontrollable downward spiral dreams" in way, ill just take anything interesting i can get lol im glad things have been improving in some ways, hopefully they keep getting better. also ynfg burnout is very real and ive learned that trying to convince myself that i need to keep staying invested or ill permanently lose interest only makes things worse, so yeah just keep doing what you actually feel interested in right now and the whole ynfg thing will eventually click again
