8 Songs of Squid
8 (or maybe 7) songs by Squid. Recorded in NYC in 1994-95. Self-released as a cassette tape. His instrument is a modified, electrified dulcimer. See my short film about him for more info. I lost touch with him decades ago and sadly to the best of my knowledge, he is no longer with us. Rest in punk, old friend.

I was there!!!! It was such an amazing memorable night. And they showed, projected, creepy old Russian stop motion videos abd k Slavic kiddie cartoons What a trip. I wanted to say that a live radio show troupe who makes like a show with all of the fabricated sound effects done- A trio? Tricking our ears live.... Right before our eyes... But come to think of it I'm seeing the stage from stage right now- a different vantage point in my head... So yes, while I did see them as an opening act at Town Hall it was years later when I saw those very special talented fully artists and Magic fabricators of science perform in Town Hall open in for the magnetic fields. I think I actually had a dvd of this show too. And if I remember correctly, which is to say if memory serves, which appears to be happening less and less at my accelerated age, Paz Lechtetins mother(yes, 'paz' of A perfect Circle, Pixies and Zwan fame... what is it with her and white bald musical Genius? Fun fact: Paz is a classically trained violinist violin and my introduction to her was actually seeing her play live, on tour , here in the east coast, with her THEN band 'the entrance band" Which I believe was from San fran... Maybe? But regardless they were very radical and absolutely tripped-out psychedelic excellent band. They were incredibly live and loose and Jammy at times. My definition of a power trio. And it was awesome for Paz to put down her Bass and pick up a violin from time while in that group , playing in the group, live on stage with the group... So at the time, I think she had either shot the video for Judith and we still in the bed or perhaps I just recorded her parts for the APC debut but... wait, is she even on the album or did she just sign on for the tour? ? And this is why I'm trying to write everything down. I had over 200 little black books/journals leather bound (really faux leather.... 'pleather'. Plastic leather. Along with a lot of the intell, recon, 411, stats, tallies & data Iid kept over the years While I do consider myself borderline obsessive (I don't believe I ever crossed over, that would be a ward I did see my dearly departed friend dashan the only guy I knew who would bring a pad and paper penil ad to a concert to jot down the setlist live as it was happening) But losing all that was hard But I digress Paz. Paz mom! The eels. (Isn't his book FANTASTIC TOO!? PLEASE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, WHOEVER MAY BE READING THIS as it is my all-time favorite Rock Autobiography (And rock bios on my favorite ) "Things the Grandchildren should know" by Mark Oliver Everett Better known to us as E On top of this landmark show at Town Hall, I was fortunate enough to see the eagles again live in New York city where the book have recently came out and he actually read chapters of the book in between performances of the songs that pertained to correlating bits from his life... He's so epic Just that he could even pull off such a feat is amazing to me. ( as he is always amazing to me anyway) because it's comedic timing is impeccable To roll up everything like a stand-up comedy show and improv into an act that includes speeches and rehearsals and I thought out performance with sketches and crowd control and some carefully maneuvered hecklers. His command and control from stage is always amazing to me. Fun to watch. Sometimes you see them in there and you darlings and the true artists band the critics been as enzymes you go to see a live noisy Rock show or a rockabilly or surf hybrid typea garagey thing. You never really know what hes going to bust out when you go to see the eels livbyt i digress Yes Paz. I guess I just wanted to point out that I think her mom who is violinist and played violin at the Town Hall the string shows and also played a dildo.... I believe she taught her daughter, have her lesson with her? Or just made sure she took up violin too when she was a little girl? Again it's fuzzy Th ol noggin here ain't what it used to be. Still, if you realize I just need to tie up some loose ends And the artistic part of me needs to tie this up simultaneously giving you all the additional knowledge I have about this here So while I don't know if the entrance band broke up or not I do know that eventually they started rubbing themselves as just "entrance band" Dropping the the. How very "Smashing Pumpkins" of them. Who, billy corgan admitted to it being unintentional but tried to at one point claim it was intentional none-the-less (as in THEEE smashing pumpkins .. like an ol fussy performative? adjective-like not a verb) brit-slang speak. And then I had stopped buying all their EPs LPs by this: after losing Paz and they started going by just "Entrance" Which, had it of been the de-facto name from the get-go... This I believe would have been 😎👍 But I digress... She played violin for APC TOO, but I think maybe that was just on the record/ album? But who knows? No one reads let alone retains all the small printed liners/credits in the cd inserts printed teeny tiny on the backs and on those little booklets, if you were even so lucky to get that.... And all my rambling and misgivings and second-guessing my fuzzy memory here aren't I just proving the fact that no one reads the damn liar notes!? aren't i living proof of that ? Oh, cool true story When I went to see ghost world at the Angelika I had just bought my copy of Tori amos's covers record At the time I did not know there was a Velvet underground cover of new age on it. But I remember opening the shrink wrap and reading the liner notes For the movie came on and scanning along with my finger left to right , because the aforementioned typefaces so so so tiny... Exactly, and I mean perfectly, like the synchronicity here just proves we must be in some sort of simulation... Right when I read the credit that the song was written by John Cale and Lou Reed, I mean immediately following my finger being on the words Lou Reed... The man, irl, in the Flesh, Took the seat directly in front of mine. (There was a young ,possibly, hopefully, nineteen-year-old, I'd describe in a guestimate- hot looking hot girl to the his left and to his right and they were hanging off of each arm... lous arm candy 1 was just in front of Neil Kelly to my left And his arm candy 2 would have been seated just ahead and to my right, DIRECTLY In front of, the again, aforementioned, super missed , super talented Dashan Coram. We were not only best friends in high school but he went on to audio engineering school and would produce my bands debut and an EP. And then we (he had a band too) played CBGBs too. He even flew out to Texas with me to see Radiohead kick off their amnesiac tour at the Cynthia Mitchell woods pavilion in 2001 which just happened to be coinciding with my 21st birthday. I'm not really old enough to have grown up with the vinyl being the default de facto populist music format- yet I miss it, and mourn the loss Yes I know it's breaking records now and on the upswing and that Metallica actually bought their own pressing plant in Virgina... But you know I miss when the albums came out and everyone had one and you could open it up in the booklet with fallout and it would reveal a cryptic cryptid half dog half Bowie .. (Big dog dick and all) as The centerfold I AM old enough to remember buying a vitalogy after school and being so impressed at the little CD booklet designed to look like a record with all of the artwork being a lovely homage to- Right on down to their Grammy award winning single (4 best hard rock performance) titled "spin the black circle" I've heard stories or possibly rumors of a band's box set coming with one of those cool design funky looking pieces of plastic but they called the adapter to change your 33 s/45s rpms... I think... I dunno I'm dumb And for the longest time it went over my head that the Smashing Pumpkins aeroplane flies High box set was designed to be/look like a miniature record case and holder When I finally saw such a case with the same type of white plastic handle it finally clicked and all made sense Even after I had read something about the art design and direction being an omage to.... I guess I had never seen it so... "Played"l a vibrator as percussion at one point (Not the way you'd expect, I vaguely remember there's even being a condom on it? Hopefully just for comedic effect... But yeah I remember this is like a cookie shaky Shaker part of the probably during the breakdown in 🤔 ...the dreams song ... Trouble with dreams is they don't come true 🎵 and if they do 🎶 Yeah I'm hearing like a awesome crescendo or break down in that song perhaps, But while I'm sure it was Mike's and vibrating and buzzing I remember distinctly not being able to pick it out individually differentiate the vibrator sound but it did look like she was twisting it back and forth and perhaps it was just kind of liie a shaker? Anyway that was... A first for me to see. At least not live and on stage As I had yet to discover New York City cabaret and vaudeville shows Underground clubs, piano bars, drag shows , old timey reviews , burlesque and risque trivia night at the local dive...

I accidentally posted this. I wasn't done... Not only editing/proofreading but like, running a thread through it and telling a consistent story and wrapping it up et all. So.... My humblest apologies to any and everyone. Look, I just got super excited because I'm 42 now and I feel like I probably kind of look like that when I'm waiting for the subways Also, I've been "in writing mode" lately because I am working on my first book... And the eels are just so freaking amazing (chet playing a suitcase!! Had a kick drum pedal and all... So it just beat into a briefcase at his foot instead of a kick drum 💼 I believe the same show also had him using a metal garbage can and lid too.... As drums. So.. if I'm a hundred percent honest it's because I could never figure out when my first band kind of dissolved and when my main focus /Life-life energy giving vitality baby 🦧🙏 🐥 band "the Mighty JSE" began... Because I actually remember having to jump in a taxi coming up straight from an early gig at the Sidewalk. (It's a venue. 😂 I just realized that I contact someone not a New Yorker we read that and .... Lol) Remember they're not being a voat check at town Hall and whoever was around me in those tiny seeds is very not happy to see me walking in with my guitar case in tow See I just trying to pinpoint the year If not possible the month Natalia, who has sang backup on two of our releases. And Mike the drummer from this band, would also start off drumming for the JSE too. Couple of the songs on our first record are about him But not in a creepy way, for Fuchs sake he drummed on em! So at this gig .. before the eels He also played 2nd guitar with me for a few songs and sang bavkyp with nat and I We both always loved and appreciated his background vocals while he played ferociously at the same time. It said him in the band didn't work out because we were working on a song and he was going to make his lead vocal debut eventual with the j.s.e. Again, just mentioning all this because I'm documenting it apologies again And it was actually Michael's idea to name the band The jse but I'll save that for next time Peace and love about him

Classic and timeless =]. Don’t know if this song is a metaphor for Sartre s explanation of the 12-12 boxing metaphor of two boxers of opposing dialectics searching for the truth of opposing thoughts synergizing or a literal description of a guy who picks fights at bus stops. To me the metaphor means not thinking in the ethical space in terms of black or white- but instead grey; not thinking in the political space as red or blue- but purple; and not thinking in the philosophical space as defined or undefined- but instead an ethos of spirit looking for its logos, mythos, and prohairesis. Surely the daily fight of the Everyman or Superman as Harold Pinter would define it.

Slash is veeery underrated. And it says a lot of him because he has earned a legend status. He can be compared to Ozzy, who isn't the most talented singer technically, but there is a lot of emotions in his voice. Same with Slash. He would lose a lot of guitarbattles with some real shredders, BUT he makes his guitar speak from his heart. Just like in November Rain solo.. A lot of guitarists could easily learn it, BUT.. they probably won't get the emotion Slash has. One of the best guitarists ever, if you consider putting emotions into the sound. He does that a lot.
