The Good, The Bad, And The Tasty: Igulu F1 Automated Brewing In Action
I want to see that check dark lager video?
I'll get on it! Really appreciate you watching, thanks for stopping in!
I want to see that check dark logger video?
1 single drop treats 10 gallon boils.
You mentioned unscrewing the tap from the shank for storage, is there a cap or something that goes over the shank side to seal it off?
Not that came with the unit, or that I'm aware of. I just store it disassembled and run some sanitizer through it before bottling to get dust out and sanitize, and that has worked well so far.
Great hands on, instructional video on the Boel bottle filler. You make it look easy! I am looking forward to your next brewing video, always a pleasure to watch! 😃
I went with the Williams Warn counter pressure filler before I found out about this. It is a little finicky, and watching people operate these, this is probably a better choice.
I've heard very good things about the Williams Warn filler! Although, yeah I've also heard its a pain to set up and you do have to pick up some other fittings if you are not using eva type tubing for gas side. I believe the Williams Warn is also more expensive than this filler.
@@iconoclastbrewingIt is more expensive. I think I paid close to 200 when I bought mine. The plastic parts seem pretty cheap for something that costs that much, but I was pleased to see retailers carry replacement parts for it.
I’ve been using the classic counter pressure for years. Sure, it’s fiddly, but I think I will stay with it. While I like the positive bottle locking and holding, I see a few issues with this design. Most notably, it doesn’t have an output tube down into the bottom of the bottle. Purging cannot be as good, because the air in the bottle is going to mix with the CO2 going in. A slight reduction in bottle O2 is the best you’re going to get. And with the beer fill running down the sides of the bottle, you’re going to pick up some of that air in your beer. I actually want a little bit of foam on top of the beer and will drip a bit more beer in the filled, unpressurized bottle to fill the foam right up to the top so I can cap right on it.
That's a really good point! Still, the only feedback I've seen is that people get around 12 months shelf-life from brews bottled with the Boel iTapX. So, while it may not be 100% effective at removing oxygen due to the mixing of gas from the CO2 coming in from the top, it seems ot be negligible enough that beers are not noticeably oxidized. Which, for me is enough! I mentioned I have used growler tubes to bottle and was successful with that, and I also cap on foam to achieve this.

Hi, very interesting observation! Im on my way to buy a bottle filler, but still thinking what would be the best option. Your advice would be appreciated😊
@@vaidassuopys4295 the classic CPF design is what I am a big proponent of. I think MoreBeer still sells them
Nice to find an experienced brewer out there I can learn from. Seems like most of the brewtubers out there pretend to be an expert but just repeat the same info the read elsewhere. I’d love more videos that include your workflows on brew day but also cleaning and maintenence days.
Thanks for the kind words! It takes a lot to create these, so anytime someone gets something out of them, it makes it totally worth it for me. The feedback I get from folks like yourself drive the direction of the channel, so be on the lookout for brew day, cleaning, kegging and cold side process videos!
Nice. Need to get into kegging. Did you see Delta's new conical fermenters?
Kegging is pretty nice... In my experience, beer conditions better when it's all together in a keg versus in a bunch of bottles as well. I just checked them out, and these conicals look awesome! I do want to see one more triclamp port on the top to make room for a PRV + Spunding valve + dry hop bong though. But, the 60 degree slope and the fact that it comes with a bunch of stuff like racking arm and a digital thermometer is a nice touch. These could go up against Spike... Now if only we could get more jacketed conicals in the homebrewing space...
Very nice! The fact that it locks the bottle in place is so simple yet such a selling point. I may have to look into one of these.
Not bad at all, right!? I will be bottling 150 bottles in one day pretty soon and I am so glad I have this to help take the edge off lol...
Jordan has done it again with this very professional video presentation of his latest, excellent advice for fellow brewers. Nice touch with the embedded video from James Tunissen of KoMANA Brewing Co. Your research, eg. Proceedings of the Zoological Society, on human toxicity is very interesting. As a mechanical engineer myself, I appreciate the technical content of this video as I do all your presentations. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting.
Thanks for watching! 🍻🍻
I don't use antifoam in my brews. I just accept the process as it is and use a blowoff container to help with yeast harvesting.
I'm heading in the same direction... I do have Fermcap AT coming soon but I'm not sure I will always use it... Maybe just enough to thwart a boilover at a few drops like Brulosophy suggests
Dang, never thought much about fermcap, just used it for insurance against boilovers, never in the fermenter. Now I will probably just skip it altogether. Thanks for bringing this up.
Glad you found it useful! Others have mentioned more natural products like HopAid which can be used to reduce krausen on the cold side. And, if I need it hot side, Fermcap AT seems to be the way to go.
HopAid Anti-foam is also available.
Oh interesting! So this is a hop derived anti foaming agent? From what I'm reading, it looks like this is an antifoam agent intended for cold side only. I'm seriously considering switching to this from silicone-based products including Fermcap AT now... Thanks for the info!
Nice video. Im a brewer in Europe never heard of fermcap stuff. But i have recently heard about a hop derived anti foaming agent from baarth haas. If my memory is correct
That sounds interesting I'll definitely check it out!
After looking into this, I'm thinking you were talking about HopAid? It appears to be intended mainly for controlling cold side foaming, so I may still need Fermcap AT (the safer version of Fermcap) for boilover protection.
How many doses do you think you get out of the 1oz. bottle. Thinking 5 gallon batches.
Cellar science claims about 35 doses in a 1oz bottle
Wow. Great info. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful!
Fascinating stuff! I don’t use a ton of additives, but I do look at them from time to time as I look to dial in my brewing process. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! I love seeing people returning when I post new stuff. I'm of like mind in that way, I don't use many additives but will always consider them because it's good to have them in the toolbox just in case.
Nice. I got a stove top 16 qt canner for Christmas last year. Plan to use my induction burner for canning wort.
Awesome! I'm curious if induction will get the cooker hot enough... I have heard from a few it does not, but let us know how it works out!
I've never seen the need for a canned starter wort. What's the advantage of this vs just making a starter the day of?
Thanks fore watching! The benefit for me is like automation in dev work. Spend the time up front so you don't have to take the time later. As a dad I have thin pockets of time, this makes it so I am able to can my wort for the foreseeable future all at once when the kiddo is down for the night, front load that time spent, and then a couple days before brewing I just pitch one of these in a flask, top off with water and pitch yeast. It may not be for everyone, but it simplifies it for me. Aside from frontloading time, I could just buy canned wort but that's expensive and I brew often.
This works so well and I only need to make starters once a year, since I make 12 at a time! 🍻 Good work
Thank you! Yeah, I love the idea of front-loading time spent like this. Helps with having small kids in the house and not much time to spare for anything.
Tks… great video! I’m trying it soon!! How long can o keep it after the process and with a good vacuum? Can I leave at room temperature?
Thanks for watching!!! Yes, you can keep it at room temperature. I have heard that it can keep just fine for a year at that temperature. If a lid pops, or the vacuum loses its seal don't trust the wort and dump it.
Great!!! Tks
Will an Instapot pressure cooker work for this as well?
Thanks for watching Harry! Unfortunately, instant pots cannot sustain the pressure needed to consistently hit 240 to 250F from what I understand. creativecanning.com/instant-pot-canning/#:~:text=No%2C%20the%20instant%20pot%20is,which%20has%20a%20canning%20setting.
Thanks!!

Great set up and vídeo! Tks… Do you have any homebrew level gas mixing equipment/accessory in USA? Didn’t find any similar in Brazil or Kegland… just profissional level… trying to put up a keezer for beer, Wine, and nitro…
Thank you for the watch!! The only gas blender I have found is pretty expesnive, though I bet you could find one of these at a restaurant discount store or something for cheaper than 1400$ is this one: www.micromatic.com/en-us/pro-line-co2-nitrogen-gas-blender-double-blend-70-30-lager-stout/p-7nWR2_4MoEGlFH5ShnAfrw Blending is something I have not yet tried, but looks like I may need to change that! I'm intrigued by the lager blend of 70% CO2 and 30% nitro.
Tks Again!! Yeah… maybe it Will be cheaper to have one cilinder for each gás or blend 🤣
That's what I'm thinking! Maybe calculate CO2 volumes, carb the beer then take it off CO2 hit with nitro and shake the keg up? Or maybe, that's backwards lol
Very nice set up, have had my spike cf-15 for half a year and I love it but my next cf will be a brew built because it can hold pressure a bit better
I have heard that as well. You really do have to "Tap around" the lid clamp to listen for a good seal. Brew Built look awesome, especially with their four legs/stability. Thanks for watching!!
@@iconoclastbrewing definitely I just purchased the stabilizing steel plate because one of the legs on my fermenter bent in, the weld is great but when rolling a full fermenter it looses stability a bit, (Using the spike casters, just an fyi for those wondering) that’s the second reason I’m going for that brew built.
Yeah they are sketchy... Delta also just released a brand-new line of conicals that look pretty solid
I just enjoyed watching your new video. It was a nice surprise, a little diversion from the usual subject matter, a bit less intense and more casual. Nice walk-n-talk through your superb engineering construction and facility 👨🔬👷♀️🧪⚗.
Thank you very much!
Great content. I’m fairly new to water chemistry, but wouldn’t more water in the mash increase your PH since water is at least 7 on the ph scale?
Thank you for watching and welcome! It likely would yes, since most well and municipal water is 6.5 pH or above. You'd have to calculate your salt addition using something like Brewfather or Brewers Friend. Using more water would increase the amount of salts you would need anyways, since the additional water would dilute their concentration. Some salts lower pH, like Gypsum and Calcium Chloride for instance.
very impressive setup
Thanks! It definitely did not happen overnight. Way back when, I thought I would have a Brutus or a Kal (Electric Brewery) build by now, but man the way things have changed!
Nitro coffee video is a yes from me
On it! This should be a fun one to make. Thanks for watching!
I 2nd the nitro setup video.
Really looking foreward to upcoming Videos!

Cool!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice setup. Gives me ideas as I put my brewery back together.
Music to my ears. Thanks for checking out the new video!
Awesome
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Good info but 300$ for the basket a little high. I didn’t even pay that much for my used unit.
Thanks for watching!! Yes, it is a bit high I agree. For me this is different because I bought my G30 new at the time of release, so spending another 900+ for a new unit might not make sense. If you bought used, you'd be better off installing quick disconnects and a wifi bridge on the V3.
Nice vids. Just saying. Light struck skunk flavor occurs with isomerised alpha acid. So hops needs to be boiled then exposed to UV. Pellets don't get light struck. Hop cones are growing in sunlight!
Good to know! Thank you for watching! I will update this at some point to emphasize that I am speaking more about light, oxygen and heat can cause hop oils to degrade faster, which is a more accurate statement.
Good information. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Can you also do a video of the way you make IPA
Yes I can! Working on the planning for that one now. Thanks for watching!
I have a Cooper's pale ale in my fermenter, what day into fermenting would you add citra hops for how long and how much to create a really fruity flavour?
If you have the ability to, I would cool the fermenter down after primary to about 45F and pitch the dry hops then. Cool temps will help keep grassiness away. Limit the dry hop contact time to 24 hours for best results, although this is a controversial topic! I am speaking from my own experience.
Hi, first time viewer and subscriber. I'm intrigued by your IPA technique. Would love to see a compare/contrast of this vs a traditional recipe or maybe just a sample recipe with this techinque. I've been brewing a long time and never heard of this.
Excellent suggestion! Added to my queue. Thanks for watching and for subscribing!
Hey all! I re-made this video today to include the V3 Perforated Basket. The irrelevant info has been removed!
Response to someone asking about G70 vs Brewzilla 65l: I REALLY like the Grainfather ecosystem. The only downside to the G70 is that the pump inlet is right in the middle of the kettle which means the pump will not work if you are boiling so you have to let it cool a bit before starting to sanitize your chiller. I have friends who have Brewzilla products and some wish they had gone with Brewtools or a Grainfather because of the interface/app design and I have heard the temperature probe on the Brewzillas can be hit or miss. RAPT leaves a lot to be desired over the Grainfather app. Grainfather has had great support as well. I recall needing a new controller for my G30 early on because it had melted (faulty V1 issue) and they sent a new one no questions asked. I regularly do 6 Gallon batches on the G70 with high efficiency (80% or so) and have been able to push that up to 18 Gallon batches for club brewdays no problem. I'd buy this system again over a Brewzilla.
disagree as to the importance of sparging. a good slow sparge is important to my brews. we all have our own ways......
That's what makes the hobby great! Thanks for watching!
Great tips! 🍻

G'day from Sydney Downunder, excellent content you have here on your channel. ill be sure to check in on all your future content!
I want to upgrade to a bigger system. I'm choosing between G70 and Brewzilla 65l gen 4 system. Do you think G70 is worth the extra cost vs. BZ 65l? I still want to be able to brew smaller batches.
I REALLY like the Grainfather ecosystem. The only downside to the G70 is that the pump inlet is right in the middle of the kettle which means the pump will not work if you are boiling so you have to let it cool a bit before starting to sanitize your chiller.
