Character of Discharge Determinations: Veterans, VA Benefits, VA Healthcare
The character of Discharge Determinations is the focus of this Podcast
VA also invites all former service members who previously received a negative character of discharge determination from VA to submit a VA Form 21-0995, Decision Review Request: Supplemental Claim. Once received, claims processers will reevaluate the claimant’s record using the new guidance.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has amended its regulations regarding character of discharge determinations, which will make more former service members eligible for VA benefits. This change will expand access to care and benefits for certain former service members who were previously ineligible due to specific discharge ...

Hi, I’m an army vet who served here in US during both Korean and Vietnam conflicts National Guard. I’m 88 & I’ve not applied for any Vet Benefits to date. I have a copy of my Military Service record which shows I served from May 1954 through Oct 1962 the Cuban crises and then honorably Discharged. Are there any benefits that I can apply for? Thanks. I got out for alcohol rehab failure. Unlessctied to PTSD, or other mental disorder, you won't get benefits for it. Ir was a lifestyle choice. Canada recognizes it, as a disability. I got out Dec 1985, after 3 years and 3 months. I only get 10% for an ankle since 1992. I get rejected everything I've tried.

My posted comment below this one was to answer someone’s Questions about veterans benifits , and as far as I know , the policy of the VA has not changed . But I have a sneaking suspicion trump is going to change that come January . We will see . As if trump doesn’t have enough on his plater . I am a veteran , never served in any conflict , and contracted a civil criminal case , so that error cost me my career in the military . But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been paying attention . I really wish you all peace . ☮

Mileage pay can be a fight. You can file for it online but whether the VA actually pays it is a coin toss. If it’s a C&P exam then it’s automatic. Community Care is not so automatic 😕

Got my increase from 80 to 100%. PTSD 70%, Coronary artery disease 60% and Migraines 50% (from Tinnitus BTW) were the bigs. Question I have is nowhere does it show P&T. I called VA and they said yes, you're 100%P&T. The only place I see P&T is a statement on the decision letter saying Basic eligibility to Dependents Educational Assistance based on permanent and total disability status is established from date 8/4/23. Where on the VA.gov site can I find something that shows 100 P&T thanks for all your helping videos.

I’ve got an 101 yr old WW2 Veteran and haven’t seen about to get anything for him. His monthly SS benefits & retirement equals approximately $870 a month. It’s a shame that he’s leaving in poverty. I was told to file unemployability, but he doesn’t qualify for it. So he gets nothing

  • @cecilbatts8835

My understanding of VA foreign medical program is that all medical service must be service connected-1 to 100%. For those who served and survived fall through the crack. I am one of those living abroad. If I get sick like non veterans there is no help for me from the VA. I must have medical insurance or go naked. I was not an officer. It might be different for them. So, I watched it twice and "service connected disability" jumped out to me. We are tihs out of luck.

Worked in powerline right of ways , climbed poles. Dieing and decaying venetian. Nothing mentioned in my records. Agent orange related claims all denied, no proof of exposure. Are these records available ?

I still didn’t get the answer I’m looking for. I was 100% p&t and had champva on my wife. Since my cancer went into remission they said I was getting better so they reduced me to 90% TDIU but still pays at the 100% rate. Do I lose the champva or keep it. Nobody seems to know.

The information in your Podcast is information I wish someone would have told me about in 1998 when my father died at the VA Medical Center in 1998. My father was in good health and was not on any medication. He drove to the VA emergency room in July 1998 on a Friday morning before he went to work to find out what was causing him to have stomach pains for four days. Around 12 pm my father suffered an excruciating headache then he lost consciousness and a code blue was called. He was revived and a CT scan determined he was hemorrhaging in his brain. He had been three overdoses of Heparin in the ER and another overdose of Heparin which a doctor ordered to run for an hour. A Resident performed an unsupervised brain surgery and botched the surgery and they left him to bleed to death for four days. Most Veterans tell their spouses about VA benefits and where their discharge and Dd-214 are located if anything happened to them. My brother and I did not know about VA benefits and the VA medical staff were supposed to explain to us what happened and provide us with a Claim 95 to file a claim to be compensated for our father’s before we left California and took my father back home to bury him beside my mother. I did not know about burial or death compensation when a Veteran dies from medical treatment at the VA. Adult children of Veterans are not aware of the VA benefits. I called many lawyers to represent my family but no one would help. I called the VARO in Philadelphia and gave the Veteran my father’s name, branch of service, ss number and year he was discharged. He looked up the information on the computer and told me there was record of my father in the VA system. I asked him to look for his name on the at the VA where he died and he could not find no medical records or death certificate in the VA database. That is when I knew the VA covered up his death and never reported it to the VA Inspector General. That was 26 years ago and I still do not have his military records or discharge paper work.

Your videos are too shallow for us. Wife has ChampVA. And Medicare AB with supplement F. I do not know if ChampVA provides as good a coverage as F. In the past 12 months, our Supplement F has paid our just under $40,000 for cancer with surgery and chemo. I have asked Medicare who says to speak with provider, a major hospital. In turn the hospital says to ask VA. I called VA who says to call Medicare. No one seems to know or care to find out. Your videos are not valuable, I need the details and am not finding them with you.

Hello, I am a Vietnam veteran diagnosed with ischemic heart disease related to Agent Orange exposure. That was in 1987. Now days every new symptom that comes out I say to myself...hey I got that too!!! Dementia being that latest disease I can relate to. For years, I was the Trivia KING!!!! I don't think that I ever lost a game of Trivial Pursuit. I knew things that no one else knew. (or cared about) HA! I am 77 years old and can probably expect SOME loss of memory but every day it seems to get worse. I played in a rock-n-roll band in the 60's and memorized over 140 songs. These days everything is a deep thought process. Who sings that? Is that person dead? When did they die? What year car is that? When did THEY get married? And so on. Sometimes I can recall an answer but often am unable to. I have an IQ of 144. I used to be smart! Not Einstein smart but pretty darn smart. Now I'm lucky to join in conversation. Who would I see about this problem? I live in Northern Alabama.
