Gardener Gray
Великобритания
Добавлен 18 янв 2023
Welcome to Gray's Gardening, my name is Gray. I've created this channel to bring to you all of the gardening tasks that I am doing throughout the year as and when they happen. There will be Gardening jobs for every week, month and season of the year. This may be pruning, planting seeds, potting on, renovation, tidying, repairing or simply harvesting the fruits of my labour.
I will be filming videos predominantly from my allotment but also my own family home garden and I want you to watch what I am doing in order to help you on your gardening journey.
I am no Monty Don or Alan Titchmarsh but I will share with you many tips and techniques that I have built up over the last 20 years of amateur gardening in the UK. This is allotment gardening UK
I hope you enjoy these videos, so please feel free to drop any comments, questions or video requests and I will get straight back to you.
Many Thanks
Gray

@@Raven-ul3cu Hi. They are great to be used as Kindling for a fire 🔥
you can make curry with the banana flower
@@yongw99 really??? Wow, I might just have to try that 👍
I cut my head off in my last two videos.....😂, but it's the beds we want to see. I am going to use more green manure on my beds next season and I have found using green field beans with winter tares and white clover the best mix to make it look attractive and have a purpose. Looking forward to seeing if it's worth paying for sheep's wool as a cover and nitrogen feed. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
@@terrykingsallotmentgardening Hi Terry, yes think I'll try the green manure next year. Happy Gardening 😁

Hi great video tfs sylvi
@@SylviaCostello-lu1bu thank you ☺️
I think it's generally considered better to insulate horizontally, because the ends work better.
so cool to have grapes!
@@DanasGardenRetreat thank you. They're so tasty 😋
Hi Dave
@@SylviaCostello-lu1bu Hi 🤪
Morning Gray, lots of work to get ready for winter. Now is the perfect time to move the blueberry plant 👍, I keep mine in pots. You may need another plant as well to,help pollinate each other. Great update Gray have a super week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden hi Ali, any excuse for more plants hey. Hope your good 😊
I was sorting mine out today replacing broken glass what a nightmare to cut the glass think I broke more then I cut 😂😂
@@anthonyparkinson1056 Yeah cutting glass can be very tricky. Lots of my panes need replacing 😩
I could do with some of those grapes! Good job 👍
I bet the cherry tomatoes were banging. *drool 🫡
@@deirdresneck Although they're at the very end now, they're so sweet and juicy 😊
I think you supposed to cut the banana flower away so the tree focus its nutrition on the banana fruit instead.
@@AnOshiNoKofan oh really. Ok, I'll try this, although we are now approaching winter in the UK so I don't expect the bananas to grow much more
@GardenerGray 👍
This video has been so helpful thank you! But question! What would you do for where the ceiling vents are or should those just be covered and just use the door for ventilation for the colder months?
@@Mansejordan Hi and thanks for watching. I personally just cover over all the vents as they can get pretty drafty, but suppose you could cut a piece almost like a flap, then stick it to the window with tape. But yeah I just use the main door for ventilation over the winter. Hope this helps ☺️
Sound 😊
Lots of successes Gray and as for the Apple true or not Jane at Jane’s garden said plant chives around the base. I try to grow things I know do well here but we can only do so much and Mother Nature, critters and pests control the rest. Have a marvellous week ahead, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden Hi Ali, hope you're well. Chives hey? I will definitely be giving this a try ☺️

I use the green ones for next year's seed. A nice reveal
@@keilarsbraegrower1581 wow, I always thought the seed would only be good enough if from a ripe fruit. Well I might just have to try this. Thank you 👍
@GardenerGray keep the green potatoes in a cool dark place until early spring, then bring them into the light to let them chit.
@@keilarsbraegrower1581 will do. Thanks 👍
I actually have a crazy wild theory that banana tree is actually an alien that try to shape shift itself into a plant😂, because when you think about it, the characteristic is not like any other plant that exist, even though banana tree is big like a tree, it's not actually a tree it's actually a herb, but if it's a herb it doesn't looks like any herb you've ever seen, and if you ever smell the sap of a banana tree, it smells like a Rotten Corpse of an animal, and then i start wondering, is this thing is just a normal plant?, or is it something else? 🤔
Excellent most beautiful and informative video thanks for sharing always success ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Some wins and some losses Gray and that’s gardening. But hey a banana 🍌 in the UK your a star 😅. Have fab week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
I have found that birds dont eat red stuff a danger color in nature my chickens dont eat tomatoes. Until I take a bite myself happy gardening Richardx
4:00 That's a fungal disease called apple scab. It can be treated with industrial broad-spectrum fungicides but I don't think those are available to the home gardener. It's most likely the case that the Golden Delicious variety is particularly susceptible to scab, especially when you consider that it's a commercial variety and therefore probably bred with the expectation that it would be sprayed. I've grown a lot of different apple varieties over the years and unfortunately most of the best flavoured ones have pretty rubbish disease resistance, apples are plagued by so many fungal diseases such as scab, powdery mildew, fireblight, canker, and that's before you even talk about the aphids, deer and other animals that like to attack them.
@@notforwantoftrying1 Thank you for the info, I'll get researching apple scab now. Thanks for watching 😊
That feeling of excitement..I would have been running around and screaming my head off lol. This is amazing
@@GardenOfZens I wasn't far off to be fair. Thought I spotted another one earlier but it was just a leaf 😂
Thank you. Are you keeping the barrel filled up with water via guttering or by transferring water from elsewhere using a bucket?
@@Clearlight201 hi. I do both. I have guttering linked up with a hose from my greenhouse but if there is no rain for 2 weeks, then I top it up by hose
it looks wonderful ! it's amazing how you have a flowering banana in the UK while I've been waiting for nearly a year to see a banana flower here in India 😅
@@GardenbyMoon really, wow that makes it even more special
Hi can I prune in October or it has to become complete dormant ??? Btw thanks for the video
@@pb6096 hi, you can prune at any time, but less chance of disease etc if you do it when dormant. I tend to do a bit now (i.e a tidy up) but stripping right back to each bud I always wait until completely dormant and the sap has not started to rise
Hello I’m just wondering how well it works in the winter ❄️ when there is less light ? Great video 👍
@@tyronewoodly hi, I actually turn mine off over the winter as I only use it to water my toms, cucumbers and melons. But the solar panel charges the battery in any daylight so I presume it will still be fine
