I'm sorry to say this but the comparison wasn't even close. However, it is a bit of unfair comparison I must say. This aria is Gedda's speciality. Lyrical piece in French with piano singing and injection of high notes. Hard to beat Gedda in this. Calleja was a bit too rough yet too shallow. The vibrato of his voice gave an impression that his voice was lack of clariy. The final B4 note was OK which was sad given it should have been a highlight of this aria. He has a great stage presence though.

I've seen an opinion: Bad tenor vs Corelli. Meaning Flores vs Corelli. Now, the same. Of course, Pavarotti is better than Flores, as Corelli is better than Flores. But it doesn't meen that Flores is bad. He is different, a wonderful voice and enjoing singing. Let's love our tenors from yesterday and from today because they share the beauty of music! According to their DIFFERENT voices and interpretations. And according to their hearts!!!
