You're only cooking with this for just minutes, it's an 1800W fryer. As for keeing foods from burning, you can keep an eye on your foods through the viewing glass, or carefully lift the lid to peek in.

You don't waste oil if you reuse it for similar foods. You can reuse the oil a few times before you should change it out. Since I started out with sweet items (donuts and churros), the last items I fried in it before changing out was fried shrimp for honey walnut shrimp. But so what if the oil already had a sweet cinnamon flavor, we thought it was great anyways after the honey sauce was tossed on them. So I wouldn't fry fish first then other items (like french toast) or they'll taste fishy. ;)

These were gluten free churros (recipe on my blog). There is a cooking guide that comes with this fryer, but I just eyeballed the times, taking it out of the oil and cutting them in half until I thought they were done. My temp was not hot enough for this batch, so they took longer.

what were you frying? Also how do you know when it's ready?

do you find that you waste oil with this? Does it make your light bill any much higher? And also do you have problems food burning?
