I think it will be a tricky road ahead but I am willing to try. Question: my paternal grandfather was born in USA but went to school in Italy then came back to his hometown with a one way Italian passport. Do you think it would speed things up if I included his 1930 one way passport?

May I ask what US state you are in? As I know vital record offices charge different amounts. I am starting the process and one certified copy is $30.

Great info! I'm still living in the USA (not able to move to Italy yet!) and I've always voted in person. You *can* take a sample ballot or notes into the voting booth with you. This is super helpful with propositions and down-ballot choices, like judges.

I agree with you when you said that language learning is a journey that never ends. For me, it’s been a struggle at first to learn Vietnamese by myself. But once I started using Immersive Translate that was when I finally made some progress. I use it to watch my shows and movies on Netflix every day, and that’s how I’ve become immersed in the language. It’s been quite a journey so far, and I’m quite pleased with the results.

I'm trying to get the Italian citizenship by descent correct. Please some help: My great-grandfather was born in Sicily in 1892 and came to America in 1910. He wasn't naturalized. He married another unnaturalized Italian in 1915 and gave birth to my grandfather in 1918. My grandfather married an Italian descent American and gave birth in 1944 to my mother (an only child). My mother was impregnated by an Italian man but they never married, and his name wasn't put on my birth certificate. Based on this narrative, might I be eligible to be an Italian citizen by descent? I always found this super cringy. My great-grandfather didn't naturalize until far after my mother and I were born. We have all his paper work in the original Italian documents, so I would qualify. I just never understood people wanting to leave their country of birth if they grew up in a first world country.

I am thinking of retiring to Italy in the next 5-10 years. Healthcare is one of my priorities on deciding on where to retire. How difficult is it to communicate in the system for someone that will be learning Italian language on the fly? I fear not being able to communicate in medical terminology until I have learned enough Italian. And I don't know how long that will take at my age.

What if said ancestor was a great-great grandmother born in Italy? I believe it would then fall to my great great great grandfather? How would you obtain documents dating that far back? 😳
