    Is it worth it

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 6 дней назад

      Hello. It sure is, great color accuracy out of the box, factory calibrated - something you don't find on many displays. Very good text clarity. High regular (SDR) brightness at 430 nits when most displays are around 250-300, so it does very well in a bright room + decent HDR brightness at 650 nits. Very good console compatibility, both PS4 and XBOX at 120hz 4K. Sharp and fast image if you can keep it at 90+ FPS in games, so it very much depends on your hardware and the games you play if you want to use it for gaming you should first check if you can keep the monitor close to its highest frame rate for the best experience and minimal input lag. A bit big at 32 inches if you stay too close to it, curved edges would help, but on the other hand a flat panel is better for content creation. If you can get it with a discount it's a great buy.

      Hello. No, natively it does not. You can play with black bars on the side at 4K60 downscaled, or at a lower resolution either in forced 16:9 or with the image stretched to fill the 21:9 aspect of the monitor.

    Hey, the version you have is g85sb it has got usb C and micro hdmi. The updated version g85sd has regular Hdmi 2.1, and DP and no usb c .. I am a noob but should it mean it will support 4k 120hz console gaming? Also, it has antiglare

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 17 дней назад

      Hey there! The G85SB has HDMI 2.1 port bandwidth but it just can't run a 120hz 4k signal on the panel, as many reviewers also pointed out. I doubt that changed on the SD model. There's been a debate among gamers about the need for 21:9 resolution aspect official support on consoles, the sad conclusion is that it doesn't seem to be a priority for either Sony or Microsoft. Consoles are meant to be mainly plug & play, as simple as possible, they are not meant, up to this point, to have the same versatility as a PC, and considering most console gamers plug consoles into a TV and most TVs are 16:9 aspect, there would first have to be a major shift in adoption of 21:9 aspect TV panels by the general consumer before it would become a priority for any console manufacturer to shift their attention and make adjustments. You can run the console in a sort of "compatibility" mode where it will run at 2560x1440 upscaled to 3440x1440, emulating a wide screen, but I wouldn't advise it - though you can try it if you'd like. For console gamers 16:9 OLED screens and TVs are a better choice IMO, but if you console game on the side, and use the monitor for PC gaming / tasks / movies , the G85SB/SD could be a decent allrounder. As for the newer version's matte panel, it's a personal choice - I like a matte coating on my screens, but even as I'm writing this reply the sun is shining brightly on my display.. : -)

      @dr.sharkmonk374 17 дней назад

      @madmaxed2063 Hey, how is the text clarity on yours ?? so the SD version has full 2.1 Hdmi, but it still can't run 4k 120hz console game because of aspect ratio panel ? I am looking for a monitor that I need to use for reading 70% of the time and media and console consumption for the remainder 30% it is so hard to find one without a flaw.. oled ones are amazing but not so good for text clarity and burning .. while great clarity displays don't game well .. I don't pc game but I do want to start gaming with console to start that's why I was asking

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 16 дней назад

      @@dr.sharkmonk374 Yes, unfortunately, being the same panel you can't run a 4k 120hz signal on it. It already had HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on the miniHDMI port, the limitations were elsewhere. The text clarity is ok, but for the best results considering the usage you've mentioned I'd recommend going for a 4K display, 32 inch preferably, at 1meter away - normal desk distance - and 150% windows scaling you will get the best results. Either a 4K OLED, or a premium 4K LED display, IPS or VA. 16:9 is a better aspect for consoles and text reading. Personally I'd go for a 4K VA panel with mini-LEDs for the best overall results in gaming and media / production. Check out the Samsung Neo G8 mini-LED 4K 240hz S32BG85, it's a personal favorite of mine, goes up to ~2000nits and makes the whites pop in-game in a more realistic manner than on an OLED panel which will always be limited by the burn-in factor. Why not an OLED for office/reading/productivity? The static images/logos will lead to burn-in over time, maybe not a year or two, but depending on the daily number of hours you're using it for reading and other similar tasks it will alter it's properties over time. There are longevity reviews on Rtings for some OLED panels which lose top brightness on the less then 100% window area (50% 20% etc) with nits going down from 300-280 to as low as 200 after a 1 year usage period. Those issues won't manifest on a regular LED or mini-LED panel. Hope this helps you make the best choice.

      @madmaxed2063 you are such a pro.. I have been researching this momitor stuff for a week now and I absolutely found neo g8 to be an allrounder for me as well minus the curve factor that monitor and dell's 32 4k IPS g3223q were in my top 2 as per my requirements too(but some eye strain concerns in it probably mwn) So I thought let's not game and go for text clarity and colors only. I absolutely adore Mac studio display glossy plus 5k, but closest to it is dell 4k ultrasharp and 3x cheaper .. let's see if I go for it. lol Thanks a lot for a great advice.. cheers ..

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 19 дней назад

      Hey there. Don't have a PS5 Pro, but you should be able to connect one to it and play at 1440p with VRR and HDR active. The monitor doesn't support 4K at 120hz, just 4k 60 (need to turn off game mode for that), downscaled. A minus is you won't be able to play in 21:9, just 16:9 with black bars left and right, though still a good experience, still OLED quality. You can use the built-in speakers, and will need an HDMI to microHDMI cable for the PS5.

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 28 дней назад

      Greetings! I haven't tried them wired, only wireless but the quality is around a 9 to me, it has a very clear sound with just enough bass and highs and a very, very detailed mid section that you will very much appreciate if you like your music's instruments well separated and clear. There is no muffled effect that you may get with other headsets that over emphasize the lows or highs, these ones are just spot on balanced. Considering the price range I see them as a best-buy, 50hours of playtime, detachable cable if the battery ever fails, very comfortable padding and wear - they are just 200g! I'm quite sensitive to heavy headgear and these have won me over with that as well. At 65 USD / EUR you can't get a better overall headset. I think they're only bested by the ATH M50XBT2, but only by a small margin in the sound department and the latter's build quality, but at more than twice the price : -)

      @@85RChester Sweet. It's a good monitor! A piece of advice, if I may, always use FSR quality or balanced in modern games, with FSR quality you gain about 50% more frames and the perceivable quality difference is negligible. That's the beauty of 4K, you can boost your frames and keep the eye candy when using recent upscaling tech : -) so native 4K is just a baseline, you'll be able to cap the monitor's refresh rate in most situations.

    Is it still relevant in 2024? Or is it better to get the G8 OLED 16:9 4K model? I am also interested in the experience of using it with MacOS, do you know if there might be problems with this?

    • @madmaxed2063
      @madmaxed2063 Месяц назад

      @@xephosbot Hello there. It's relevant if it meets your needs. Being OLED I would not recommend it for desktop/office use with a lot of static images, it's mostly intended for gaming, watching movies. If you want to have a good all-rounder see the regular LED, or mini-LED offers, there are a lot of good options. As I've discovered a mini-LED boosted image is far better in bright scenes than OLED, as it can reach higher nits and will give you a more life-like sensation, even though it may not be as pure contrasty. That being said, if you're set on getting an OLED display the 4k needs better hardware, whereas the wqhd one is at less than half the pixels, so you'll get about twice as many frames, or require half as powerful/expensive hardware for the best output. You won't have any issues on MacOS from what I've read. Another consideration is if the content you'll be running on the monitor is optimised for 21:9 aspect ratio, which could come in handy if you "split" screen applications, like keeping Xcel on one side of the monitor and, maybe running a browser or chat on the other half.. Price wise the 4K monitor is also more expensive. Consider your use cases and I'm sure you'll reach the right decision : -)

      @@24kCookieVert It's a matter of preference, some people work / play in well lit rooms and a matte display coating helps, but it depends on the implementation I guess, harder coatings may give off a foggy/dirty look. Hello, yes, always. V-sync will make your game laggy unless you have a framerate that never goes below the max refresh rate the display is set at. I got used to always keep it disabled and prefer to use an in-game framerate limiter (Diablo IV has such a thing) or just go with unlimited FPS if I don't need the extra GPU headroom (or limiting for broadcasting, heat buildup purposes etc)

      @@proj3ctmayh3m Congrats on the great rig ! Do you know what model the monitor is, or at least the resolution it runs at? You should consider upgrading to a better monitor, for smoother gameplay, image and FPS headroom you should consider getting at least a 240hz QHD monitor, the specs you mentioned are enough to drive a 4K 240hz monitor too. With an RTX 4080 super and 7950x3D you will be bottlenecked by the monitor at 75hz. Why even 4K 240hz? well, you'll be future proof, and the image is sooooo crisp! Don't go for the 144hz or 165hz monitors with that rig, punch higher, you'll love it : -) As for the tearing, try limiting your framerate to 75, go into Settings - Performance - Max Foreground FPS set to 75, it should help for the time being.

    This thing is really annoying. You can't even turn it on and off properly with the PC together. You always have to turn it on and off with the remote control. And even then you still get annoying pop-up menus and the message that the "monitor" will go into standby in 50 seconds until you move the mouse. Added to that are useless smart functions and crosshairs that are so huge and fat that you can practically not use them. I'm keeping this wannabe monitor, it's more of a TV, exclusively for Cyberpunk 2077. This game looks absolutely beastly in 21:9 on this in HDR10+ gaming mode. And if I hadn't only paid €670 for this poc, i would have returned it long ago.

      If you've paid 670 Euro for the PC + monitor you got a huge discount :)) It has it's drawbacks, as do all Samsung Smart OS monitors, some of them do tend to want to turn off while you are using them or don't sync with the PC when powering on. Personally I can live with the minor drawbacks, but it's your choice if you choose to go with something else. I'd recommend you try something from their 4K lineup, maybe the G8, which is purpose built as just a monitor. 4K on a good monitor can change your perspective, though you need good PC horsepower to drive it over 60 FPS in demanding titles.

    Why DLSS Quality and not native 4K ? Without DLSS you sit below 60FPS in most scenarios. With DLSS Q on you gain anywhere from 50% to 100% extra FPS. There is basically no perceivable image quality difference to the eye, between native 4K and DLSS Quality, especially when you are running around blowing stuff up :-) Why no Raytracing? The raytracing implementation in this game is not worth the FPS you lose (it sucks). While playing this fast paced ARPG with a lot of boom-boom, pets, spells/explosions on the screen I don't notice the occasional raytraced reflection in the small puddle of water filled with monster blood. But if you like staying by the blacksmith's fire to admire your zoomed-in character's well lit armor, then maybe it's worth the high % FPS loss .-)

The HDR isn't great though, don't count on it to make a big difference, the nits are OK, the panel is bright. The pixels are a bit spread out on the 27inch display but if you keep it at more than an arms length from you the image is quite clear and crisp. Otherwise, if you don't play the types of games that can benefit from the 360hz display, if you want a more cinematic experience, I'd like to recommend you look at the Samsung G6 240hz QHD 1000R VA smart monitor, it's fast, quite low priced lately, and has deeper blacks and colors.

Regarding this monitor in particular, for me the 1000R curve make a big difference, the fact that it's ultrawide is very nice, though you must ask yourself if you prefer that to a normal 16:9 aspect one, maybe you multitask a lot, like I do, or watch movies, in which case 21:9 helps. Also it has a smart OS and remote, big plus for some, it's growing on me too, the remote I use a lot. It gets OTA updates frequently. Good ergonomics and aesthetics! The drawback is you need a dim lit room to enjoy it. Using it in a sunny room or a room with a lot of lights behind the user will make for a less pleasant experience as it's very reflective. Sure, you could say it's more "future proof", but that depends on how long you see yourself using this monitor before upgrading. Unfortunately, since these OLED panels are fairly new tech, no one can say how many years they will last before exhibiting problems. Anyway, 240hz vs 175, matte coating on the LG, glossy with a light purple tint on the Samsung, better overall looks on the Samsung + smart OS, deeper curve on the LG. They have some suggestions on how to deal with it in this reddit post: www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/158cb8b/samsung_odyssey_g8_oled_capped_at_400_nits_hdr/ - although I would suggest to use Samsung monitors with Freesync OFF. I personally don't mind having Freesync off, the VA panels, deep blacks and good colors + the 1000R curve is what I want, though initially I was disappointed by the fact that most Samsung monitors can't be used with Freesync enabled I decided the other aspects are more important. Hello! From what I've seen after test streaming to Twitch & RUclips, the x264 CPU encoder delivers better quality per frame than the H264 GPU encoder. The CPU power consumption and load does go up quite a bit though, but if you have good cooling, a good PSU and headroom for the encoding, for the best possible quality I'd go with the CPU encoding. On the GPU encoding side I've seen temporary quality drops during fast action scenes and sometimes even randomly. Can't say if it's an AMD only issue, or if it's the same on the nvidia side, only streamed AMD GPUs - 7700 XT and 7900 XT. Personally I like to play with fast frame rates, currently have a samsung G6 240hz display, and I'd like to cap it at least at 120FPS while playing, so, for me, CPU encoding is better because I can cap the GPU at 100% and leave the encoding load on the CPU (since with 100% GPU load I've seen the H264 GPU encoding struggle at times and drop frames). There's an advantage, quality wise, to stream in UHD, if your system is good enough and you have a great internet connection (since the bitrate needed will be very high), UHD is the future, and RUclips will save all your videos, unlike twitch. The downscaled UHD video will look very good in QHD and FHD as well, considering your system and internet connection are flawless :D You can also use 2 PCs for streaming, and that will make it easier to use CPU encoding. Check out my other test streams if you'd like to see some differences. Hope this helps. Have a good day!

    how does the number changes when fsr activated ?

      It depends on the FSR quality level, you could get anywhere from 15 to 100% extra FPS from what I've seen, but the quality will suffer as you go up in FPS. Don't have any FSR on recordings for this build, but on an 7800X3D / 7900XTX you can go from 60FPS all the way to 110FPS from ultra quality to ultra performance, in the scene I've tested, and will stay at 90FPS(50% extra frames over native resolution) if you choose balanced mode.
