CMF Indoor - New Years 2025 Co-op Race
Another test of the new co-op race mode, where all pilots are on the same team. We modified the track into a simple square pattern (high speed!), and the object was to get the maximum number of laps as a co-op group in 2:45. We had set a benchmark of 41 laps in the previous race, so the goal was 42. We ended up doing 41 again. Checkout the post-finish crash at the 3-minute mark, with slo-mo!

Course setup over several rooms, with "speed" run. Collision with gate at 2:25 damaged the camera lens; more visual flaring after that. Little head-on bump at 3:35. Not going too fast; getting the feel for new gear.Video quality in the source file is better: etheli.com/vid/CMF_indoor_202...Timing system is RotorHazard: www.rotorhazard.com

Sterling Field FPV Streamer Combat 2021-06-11
This is awesome!
ET, nice track. What quad are you flying to get nearly 4 minutes of flight time? I'm having trouble getting 2:20 on a 20 gram Mobula 6 with new folded cell 300 mah lipos from weBLEEDfpv.
Meteor 75 with 660mAh battery. Flies really well.
Thank you for showing us your course! I have a few questions on your gates: 1. How do you power them? Does each one have a dedicated lipo, or do you convert AC current to DC some how? Would you please elaborate on your process? 2. What is the diameter of the circular gates, and what is the length of a side on the square gates? 3. Are the LED gates built from scratch? 4. Is it an easy process to add your nice red race start button to your setup, or is there programming required in the timer software? Thank you in advance!
The gates are made with 2812 LED strips. They're driven by an Arduino. The Arduino is powered by a regular old USB wall wart. We're indoors, we have extension cords and outlet strips and a bunch of the USB cables are 20' long. In operation, they draw around 300mA. So if we were to want to power them off a LiPo, a 2S 3000mAh pack (with a 5V regulator) would run them for much more than 10 hours. The gates are made from a 5' length of pre-cut 1/2" PEX tubing purchased at my local Home Depot. The LED strips slip right through. Wrapped in to a hoop, that gives you a circle with a diameter of about 19" if I remember right. I think I picked this because someone who used to fly with us said a standard Whoop gate is 20". There's a 3D printed joiner that holds the two ends of the tube together and that joiner bolts to a clip that snap-fits over 3/4" PVC. The joiner puts another 1.5" in to the diameter and gets it really close to 20". The red start button isn't hard to make. I bought them off Amazon, I think they had a recorder function to record a sound and then they'd play it whenever the button was pushed. I pulled that stuff out and replaced it with a small microcontroller (don't remember, maybe a DF Robot "Beetle". It emulates a keyboard and generates a <SPACE> when pressed, but not all of the little micros on the market can do mouse/keyboard emulation. Has to be the right type, but it wasn't anything special or expensive) with a USB cable routed out of the housing. Added some code that watches for the button to be pressed (which is wired to one of the GPIO inputs on the MCU) and when it sees it, it outputs a <SPACE> character over the USB connection. I have a much more advanced start button design that uses battery power, bluetooth and mesh networking (basically, every racer gets a button, the race is "initiated" by whoever is running it, and once every racer has hit theirs, the race starts automatically). I've been meaning to post the details to a sub project on the race timer Git. But I need to clean up the code a bit first, it's embarrassing, so I haven't gotten around to it.

I live right round the corner man, it looks like you need a drone upg
This is wicked cool
Seems like we are going faster underneath the goggles.
That's funny how little by little they were eating your streamer, Video came out great.
It works! Nice work!!! Thank you!
Tough crowd :D
First race at 28:15 Race 2 @ 33:50 Race 3 @ 42
great vid ... groundstation receivers are preforming awesome
I miss you guys!!!!!! Randy's new ground station is SICK!!!!!!
Hey nice race course.
Thats like the Indian airforce
Nice flying, even while chatting away! Enjoyed that.
Thanks, yeah, a clever comment is often followed quickly by a crash. :]
Yup, it was Randy... Sorry 😉
The blinders on Randy's quad is the frame. I had to watch it like 8 times to see everyone's perspective. Need to get another camera with Randy and Tim faces and a mic. Oh, and for team races, sit as teams in the camera view.
Nice perspectives. Somewhat annoying pulsing in the audio at about 2.5 bps though. And not sure why Randy's camera has blinders L & R.
🎮❤️😎
What a enormous save, and flying skils, heads down Sir,
Nice to see I'm not the only one hitting the side of the gates! Great vid... I'll have to see what I have.
AHHHHHHHHH! Too many switching points of view ..........
Great video quality! What camera you running in the rear?
It's an 808 #16 Car Key Chain Micro Camera. If you search for that on eBay you can get them for about $45. There are cheaper keycams out there, but a lot of them are less reliable and shoot poorer-quality video. My keycam has the 'B' lens (no fish-eye effect), which I prefer.
That looks really cool. Were all the combatants FPV?
David and I were flying FPV; the robot plane was flying a simple pattern. Yeah, much fun!
Nice! Once I got over the initial shock of that music kicking in.....
Nice! - looks like you caught the streamer on your camera at the end.
Yeah, next time I need to try to shake it off!
🔥🔥🔥Very CooL🔥🔥🔥 👊😎👍
So how would you get the app on to your phone
The app is available through the etheli link in the description. It's installed by clicking on the .apk file.
etrc1 I see. . Very cool! Thanks
That tunnel is epic
Wonderful explanation and video. Is there a proper intermod calculator for the 5.8ghz band?
Thanks. Not sure what you mean be "proper" intermod calculator. My IMD Tabler tool (linked to in the video description) calculates IMD effects for 5.8GHz frequencies.
Excellent! I missed the link in your description. Thank you!
Wonderful tool! Thanks again!
Alright!!! That is what I call a streamer clipping. What's the damage to the plane... there was at least one good hit to it.
Nice chunk out of the wing. :]
Well done! I want one. lol
Game changer!!!
Awesome footage :D
drone down! good video....
Awesome! Love to see organized Whoop racing!!
Thanks for the info. I have noticed that 1 transmitter can bleed over another transmitter on frequency that is 240mhz apart, this is consistent throughout the channels in my testing.
At the beginning of the video I show a receiver at 5685 and a transmitter at 5925 (5925-5685=240), running with no interference. If you have a test I can reproduce showing this kind of interference, please describe it.
What I've since found is that transmitters will produce interference at frequencies 240MHz above them (but not below). See my "ArduVidRx and Controller Android App Demo" video for a demonstration of this.
great job !
Holden MA? where exactly is this? if you don't mind me asking....
+Daniel White QMFC field: See qmfc.org
haha I grew up right down the street from there. That's actually where I got my first bicycle! (when it was in operation). Thanks for the Info. and cool video. Ive got a 250 FPV racing quadcopter and plan on building a wing soon. Maybe Ill Have to join the QMFC....
nice video man. I want to try one of the Quanum Pico boards. but it seems they are hit and miss about getting the right setup programmed ? I use the full size naze 32 in my 250 size quads. no problem setting it up. but using the "brushed" motor in the Pico seems to be kinda sketchy
What's the DLG design? The stubby nose and tail looks like a great way to reduce the stress of discus launching.
Got my Racores Mini-Yak flying just recently. The build was easy and it flies really well. It's stable in a harrier. It hovers well as well. Being that it is a smaller plane you have to be more alert however, I have been using larger 250mah 2s packs. I am waiting for the HK 180mah to come in. Using a LemonRX feather weight RX. Would recommend it.
nice, I picked one of these up at the WRAM show last week, putting it together tonight, I've never flown 3d, this is going to be my trainer :)
Nice! What size carbon fiber did you use for push rods - didn't see any supports
+Ed Dugo Thanks. The rods are .050", they are included in the kit from racores.com. I found that I didn't need guides for the control rods, but they're in the kit if needed. It all goes together really nicely; quick and easy build. --ET
+etrc1 Thank you! I like the idea of 2 1 cell lipos
Thank you for the tip!
Awesome!
@2:08 lol yah it is
awesome!
Looks fun
