Making a Traditional Puukko
Making of Traditional Puukko Knife
A friend of mine called me and told me that he was moving to Lapland later this summer. He asked if I could make a knife for him so I did. I wanted it to be cool and useful knife and decided to do a puukko (actually it is basically the one and only option in Finland) and nice leather sheath to go with it.
The steel I used for this knife was high carbon steel made for knife making. The wood in the handle was birch that I found from our firewood pile. I also used brass and leather in the handle.
Hope you enjoyed!

Making a Simple Dagger

Knife making- Making a Dagger From an Old File I made a dagger out of an old file. The wood I used for the knife handle was curly birch and the guard was just a piece of mild steel. Other knife handle materials were some scrap plastic and mild steel. This was my first dagger build so far. It was a pretty long project and I think having a belt grinder would help alot with future knife making pro...

That is kinda true but I will not be using this pipe a lot so there is no problem since the only downside of using curly b...

    In the world I live in, if my friend wants a knife, he goes to the store or online and spend a lot of money to get a machine mass produced knife identical to every Tom, Dick and Harry who owns one of the same brand and model. Your friend got a custom handmade unique one because his buddy has amazing skills and workmanship! People like you is becoming extinct so kudos for being the few rare ones left 👏 👏👏

    Ihan vinkkinä, takomalla terän muodon ja varsinkin kärjen, saat tehtyä kiderakenteeseen paremman sitkeyden (eli kestää paremmin käytössä). Päästön jälkeen älä hio tai työstä millään laitteella mistä lähtee kipinää, koska vaikka kappale tuntuu viileältä niin kipinä syntyy 1000 asteesta ja se helposti ylipäästää teränsuun, tämän takia paras keino on vesitahko tai kostutettu nauhahiomakoneen nauha. Ja heloista; kun piirrotat ruodon mentävän aukon, niin poraa vähän isommalla 2/3 materiaalista ja loppu pienemmällä terällä, tällöin viilaamista tulee monta kertaa vähemmän ja saat helan helpommin istuvaksi. Äläkä ihmeessä enää vahingossakaan karkaise terää päästön jälkeen, koska tämä kaikki vaikuttaa kiderakenteeseen joka on kaiken a ja o.

    The best gift for your boyfriend would be the truth about puko. In other words, the handle is devoid of any anatomy and security, the Nordic sharpening is the second worst after the hollow and the most basic their steel belongs to the age of the dinosaurs. Surely your work is perfect with a beautiful result, but a utility knife is not enough for beauty.

    • @supernova1976
      @supernova1976 Год назад

      Thats not very nice, besides the obsession with super steel and man made handle material in a full tang without the ergonomics of a puukko is useless in my opinion. the scandi grind works in this part of the world, because it is the perfect thing for wood work. not everyone needs 5mm thick blade full tang self defense survival knife, it has its place but not for everything.

    How far back does "traditional" go? Does it include the Wirkala, with the (approximately) rhomboid cross-section handle? A cylindrical, barrel, shaped handle would not be as easy to control turning in the hand, I imagine. Beautiful knife,though. Thanks for video.
