Andy was well off and well known as an artist (famous for his shoe illustrations) BEFORE he became famous. NONE of the Campbell Soup can silk screen paintings sold at his first show. He hired a trained silk screen printer as an assistant. His gallery owner friend, in Los Angeles, agreed to buy them under Andy's condition that they not be separated from each other. The gallery owner would eventually sell the lot to a museum for MILLIONS of dollars. The show, like that of the impressionists, brought him attention and things rolled on from there... and he opened The Factory where he invented multiple media shows... music, art etc on single stage.
