Being a Tom Waits fan for over 40 years, the secret of covering Waits (and Kathleen Brennan) songs is not having Tom Waits in your head when you are recording it. And that is a difficult thing to do, as his presence is pervasive and most covers end up as driftwood, floating lost in a back catalogue. The second thing about a Waits (and Brennon & Waits) song, which is not immediately evident hearing Tom Waits' gargle of gravel and whiskey, many of them are written to be sung by females. Love the original from Mule Variations, but this version is really good too.

I have been hunting TW covers since I don't know when :) tip: if the title and other data is better filled, more people will find it. Worth finding :)
