Thanks a lot, that last jump was what got me confused. I was assuming I could not make it and I was not seeing the yellow 'follow this to stash' paint, because the psych effect was turning everything grey. Very helpful. On a sidenote, the PDA you find up there talks about meeting the stalker who left this stash here at a pipe with an anomaly. Does anyone know where that place is?

I found a solution for that red X fail mark, when quest objective tells you to talk to Ghaliv, you must make sure that you do not have a Thuderjaw heart in your inventory/resources, Ghaliv will tell you to go to the Valley of Omens and kill the Thunderjaw there and get its heart. If you have Thunderjaw hearts, you can drop them on the ground and talk to Ghaliv to get your next objective and then grab them, it won't affect your quest, and the red mark will not appear.

Finally I can use his gun! I’ve been playing this game since it came out and I pistol whipped 3 guys on the first day and broke the gun and haven’t been able to use it since! I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it! Thank you now I can shot enemies, instead of always having to punch them!
