Shine Brighter. Sailor Moon Episode 51 | REACTION
In Disney's sleeping beauty it was Prince Phillip. Also would have been funny if they did the Scene from Airplane and every starts by taking turns slapping her. Then moving up to bats and pipes.
Their pettiness is why I love the sisters! Yes, the styles in Sailor Moon was influenced by the 80's.
Setting up an entire kingdom made out of boxes to go on an adventure is more of a BMO thing to do.
Unless she sees them transform, she won't recognize them. Its part of the magic in their transformation. Even Season 1, Minako had to tell them who she was when she met them in her civilian persona. Yeah, this episode was lame. So lame the sharks fled the episode.
First view.
The villains are not doing evil for the sake of evil. Their motivation will be made clearer as the series goes along.
If Usagi loses the crystal, she can't transform. So if she is attacked, she is helpless.
They should do a movie and Season 2 of The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish this year! If they do a season 2 of that show this year, they should definitely do an episode with timmy as a fully grown human man and make the episode look just like the episode, Lilo, from the anime show, Stitch! And, they better include the Pixies in it, including Head Pixie ( H.P.), Sanderson, the Pixie Guards, and their home, Pixie World! They should also update and change their pixie cellphones to pixie smartphones too!
Fusionator casually forgetting that the original Lemongrab wears black.
This episode was a huge turning point for Finn's character. Up until now, Finn had always followed his gut and it always worked out and if he did something wrong, he could always just apologize and everything would go back to normal. But for the first time here, Finn learns that sorry isn't a magic fix to every problem.
I agree! My favourite episode up until this point!
Despite how slow the story is, it's a little more fun watching with others.
0:33 Usagi can be translated as either bunny or rabbit. Chibi-Usa or Chibi Usagi is a nickname that means small rabbit or bunny. Tsukino Usagi means "Rabbit of the Moon" which is a reference to Asian folktale about a rabbit that lives on the moon. Usako means "my rabbit/bunny" or "little rabbit/bunny."
Yeah, Bubblegum's pride is one of her greatest faults and it was really showcased this episode.
Like I said, the show definitely suffered from it's shorter length. Ursula/Chariot and Croix and Diana got most of their development in the back half, Sucy and Lotte mostly got ignored in the back half and dominated the first half, Amanda got neglected in the back half, Constanze barely existed outside her spotlight episode, and Jaszminka never got a spotlight. They also kind of botched aspects of the S1A-S1B transition, like they could have made Croix a lot more neutral looking, it wouldn't have been hard. Most of the first half of the show showcases the 'downsides' of tradition, like half the episodes are it causing issues or Akko subverting it, so someone who's also against tradition should be easy to present as on our side. Her drip is just way too neon screaming BADGUY BADGUY BADGUY
9:40 Not worthy. Albeit in Chariot's case it's mostly not her fault, she got 6 of the 7 words and couldn't get the power of friendship because Croix was a total POS and she didn't have anyone else. That's another example of the weak pacing. Akko gets the first word in Episode 1 pretty much by complete accident and seemingly barely even remembers what she did when it's mentioned in Episode 2, then it's completely ignored until the Midseason finale when we get the exposition dump and then Akko's getting one every other episode. Show isn't perfect for sure and mostly would have benefited from being a bit longer(I think 40 episodes would be perfect). Did you ever play the game Chamber of Time?
Like many, many, many cases, the whole "Is Diakko Canon?" thing is a result of skirmishing crew behind the scenes. The original plan was Andrew. Always was. But Diana was made a lot nicer in this series and some of the crew liked the ship and nudged things in that direction, and it became dominant by the time the final episodes were being written and probably would have been canonized had there been more series. Also at least one writer shipped Akko with Sucy.
@@kalkuttadrop6371 Akko and Sucy is the most chaotic choice possible and I kind of wish they went for it just because it would be unbelievably unique. Not even sure if I would like them together but it would be such a bold decision.
@@Fusionater Chaotic + Chaotic is probably asking for trouble, Akko needed some stability which fits Andrew and Diana. And I guess Lotte, but literally no one ships that. Also it's "Low-Tay" and "Croy", not "Lot" and "Crow"
Sad to say it’s a losing battle to get me to pronounce things correctly most of the time. I’ll try. Allow the chaos to thrive!!!
@ LWA had a genuinely really good dub. Akko has the same english VA as Megumin, Lotte the same English VA as Sailor Moon, and Sucy...well actually her English VA hasn't done much. I'd give the first episode a watch at least, it's a solid A-Tier(which in my ranking system means as good as subbed. S-Tier is better than subbed which has only happened like, 3 times) Did you ever play Chamber of Time?
@@kalkuttadrop6371 I did not.
I've never actually seen the show, but from what I know it's status as the "OG" Magical Girl anime is entirely a Western thing. The (generally accepted) first one was Sally the Witch in 1966, and by the 1980s it was a well established genre with tropes, plenty of shows, and even some subversion(Minky Momo was infamous for killing off the main character). Sailor Moon was just another magical girl anime, it hardly created or formed the genre the way is often thought of in the west. It's also not nearly as tame or paint by numbers as people think, though you know that by now. The real genuinely 'played straight safe' Magical girl anime was the 70s stuff, this isn't it, so the idea we have int he West that Madoka was the first one to break the mold is really dumb. (Also funnily enough Sailor Moon is technically a spinoff, "Codename: Sailor V" came out a year earlier and was the OG manga. It's a prequel starring Sailor Venus and it has a few contradictions with the Sailor Moon manga). You see something similar with Isekai, so many people start the story with Musheku Tensei and ReZero in the 2010s. Isekai existed way before that. In fact I'd argue Western Isekai took a lot of influence from the first generation of Japanese Isekai as that usually involved going home eventually unlike the modern stuff. Digimon, Alice in Wonderland 80s, and most famously Magic Knight Rayearth are all great examples. (There's also the equally ignored second Generation of Isekai, associated with DotHack and SAO)
@@kalkuttadrop6371 Most people I talk to think the modern explosion of isekai started with SAO, but I’m not sure I’ve met anyone who literally thinks either that or Re:Zero/Mushoku were the originators. The earliest one I’ve personally seen that I consider to fit the mold of what people mean when they use the term Isekai is Now and Then, Here and There (although things like Digimon fit the another world aspect, the fantasy element of isekai has become such an entrenched part of the genre that the more sci-fi aspect to Digimon keeps it in a different grouping in my viewing, for lack of a better term, a lower case i isekai. I’m not familiar with MKR
@@Fusionater Sci-Fi inspiration was decently common with the second gen stuff, and again it's also pretty common in Western Isekai. Hack also has some of that and even SAO to a lesser degree. Magic Knight Rayearth is early 90s, it's also kind of infamous for having the last/rarest Sega Sagturn game released in the west. It's the one with the 3 girls who get sucked through a portal at Tokyo Tower and become the Magic Knights to save Rayearth,. Main chick has the red hair, sword, gets a cool helmet design in her stronger form and then gets a mech at peak, other two are blue and green, one has a bow, lot of stuff about friendship, and then the last arc kind of goes all over the place insane.
@@Fusionater I'm guessing that's also why people debate whether or not Time Travel counts as Isekai. I'd say it depends on the type of time travel story, but if you've gotten to the point there's little to no tether to your old world and nothing is really recognizable it should count. Literally one of the OGest Western Isekai(even predating Oz) is "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" which is a time travel story
@ I guess for me there should be a list of tropes that you would put in the “isekai” checklist, and so long as you meet like 85% of them or whatever, congratulations, you’re an isekai. I kind of like the idea of no tethers to your original world being one of those, for time travel, Erased? No. Dr. Stone? Yes. (On that tickmark, one could debate whether certain later aspects in Dr. Stone keep it from the Isekai title)
@@Fusionater Minimal Tethers anyway. More breathing room if it's made clear this is an alternate timeline and there's no Grandfather paradoxing going on. I guess my broader point bringing up the 2010s stuff is that I've a lot of people recently try to say that Eastern Isekai and Western Isekai are fundementally extremely different and are written with massively different mindsets and may as well be seperate genres, but I feel that's only true if you exclusively look at 3rd Gen and to a lesser degree 2nd Gen Eastern Isekai. The First Generation stuff like Rayearth or Digimon or Wonderland is a lot closer to the Western Stuff. (And Second Gen isekai influenced a lot of Western stuff too, just not really stuff we normally consider Isekai. Code Lyoko took some of the Sci-Fi cues and Infinity Train I'd argue follows the 'lesson learning' motif that was really common in Late First Gen Early Second Gen Japanese Isekai, with the sci-fi influence more common in Second Gen).
Jaszminka (girl who's always eating) was probably the biggest victim of the short runtime. Despite being one of the witches present in the final episode she never even had a spotlight episode. They made up for it by adding her scrapped plot with the Hunger Fairy Curse to the Manga, but yeah she definitely got the short end of the stick. Amanda, Constanze, and maybe even Sucy would have gotten a bit more material if the show was a bit longer.
@@kalkuttadrop6371 If I remember right Jaszminka gets more to do in Enchanted Parade right? I never ended up reacting to it because it was kind of hard for me to find at the time.
@@Fusionater A little bit, but if you want peak Jaszminka you'd want the Manga where they actually do her spotlight story. TLDR she's got a hunger fairy inside her, that's why she's always eating. They also explore what's going on with Constanze more. Main thing I remember from the short films is that Diana is way nastier initially.
This is around the time the video game Chamber of Time is set. You can see one of the girls from that cameo in the earlier episodes
From what I remember the Dub is pretty good
This show has to hit us more with the foreshadow hammer. One of the reasons I prefer Sailor Moon Crystal is it cuts out alot of pointless filler. But others feel it losses character development.
Funny that you mentioned The Owl House given that LWA(or more specifically the short films from 2013 and 2015) was a direct inspiration and in fact the biggest direct inspiration. (The creator of TOH was posting race swapped Diakko art back in 2013)
I believe it, the worlds have such a similar vibe/sense of wonder to them, despite being so different otherwise.
@@Fusionater The three biggest inspirations for TOH were Little Witch Academia, Gravity Falls, and Harry Potter from what I've read. The first one because it was the creators favourite and again she was a fan a decade ago, second one because it was one of the most influential cartoons of the 2010s and made by her BF, and the third one because...I mean it's a magic school story it's gonna be in there.
@@kalkuttadrop6371 Is Harry Potter being an influence confirmed? The whole magic school thing predates Harry Potter by a pretty wide stretch, it might be the biggest known one today, but it’s by no means original, and I don’t think Hexside is terribly similar in the way it separates students or generally operates. Grudgby is definitely a Quidditch reference of course.
@@Fusionater The 4 houses thing and Grudgby as well as just general genre tropes it popularized, a lot less specifics and more tropes that it's best known for.
@ I’ll agree with popularized tropes but I don’t think I can agree with the four houses thing just because, although they do separate kids into different fields of magic, Hexside not being a boarding school doesn’t literally physically separate the kids in the same meaningful way that the four houses do at Hogwarts. It’s one thing in the Owl House I actually wish they hadn’t slightly painted as inherently bad, specialization. In concept, if’s kind of cool that the school was focused on teaching one branch of magic to the kids very well, rather than teaching them a bunch of magic to a mediocre level. (Debate whether this would be good for the American school system lol) Kids should have been a bit more more free to switch paths or pursue other magic as an extracurricular/minor, but the rough idea of locking them into an area they have shown an aptitude in could have been a good comparison to differences in real world schooling and also just been more interesting.
Given that there are 12 Annabel’s, operating for 120 years, and there have been 365 volumes…it all seems tied to years and months. Each Anabel wrote 30 or 31 volumes over the course of 10 years before retiring. (Except presumably the second one who only did 28). The one we see here would be the 12th Anabel(December) so 334-365 would be this girls, and she would have taken the mantle a decade prior(so around the time Chariot retired and Akko and Lotte were little kids). Lotte would have become a fan around the time Number 11 was stepping down and this chick was just becoming Anabel
I had to go rewatch the episode because I had no idea wtf you were talking about. 😂 Can't say I'm mad.
The theme was indeed the 5 stages of grief, and like another commenter said, just not in the right order. Finn ACCEPTED the package from Jake, Cinnamon Bun wad DENIED his night light, Lemongrab 1 was ANGRY at Lemongrab 2 for breaking Lemonsweets, Ice King BARGAINED with the penguins so that he can get to watch Basic Mortality, and Mr. Fox commented on the DEPRESSION in his bed.
They do make an explanation of things, but its dragged out. More slowly then I like. The sisters did grow on me when I watched this years back.
Yeah, a lot of times a villain's motivations won't fully be explained at first to keep it mysterious. It feels like older series often took their time to explain things later while more modern anime like to go straight to the point. Sailor Moon does this a lot. Since each episode has a different writer, the quality differs from episode to episode.
I think my issue is that the heroes seem weirdly uninterested in all the mysterious stuff going on (like what's Chibi-Usa's deal and who the villains are.) Like I think Luna in season 1 would have tried to investigate and figure stuff out or would have more talks with Artemis about what's going on or something.
@@vilmublues752 Chibiusa is like 5-6 years old, but hard to interrogate her because she clearly has no idea what she's doing. I think they're hoping her parents will just pop up looking for her. Though It would have been nice to see them asking her questions alot sooner. Or even show the cats using the computer to at least search for the identity of their attackers.
I don't know if you know, but the Sailor Moon musicals are coming back to the U.S. in a couple of months with even more cities. Even if you don't care for it, this marks the longest sustained U.S. engagement of a Japanese stage show based on a popular manga or anime. It is groundbreaking and unprecedented for a Japanese musical to go to this many cities in the U.S. and at least a month in London.
Nice! They put alot of work in their shows.
@@ilovestuffist I might go see it if the price makes sense.

Sailor Moon has had many musicals since the 90s called Sera Myu in Japan and are popular but in the last several years there's been a push for a more international version that goes all over the world.

When I first saw this episode, I also disliked it. But they had to do the ' will she leave or will she stay ' drama. I still don't care for this.
The mermaid Xergiok was riding on at the end was one of the mermaids from the beginning of the episode who was feeling lonely.
Love your reactions to Sailor Moon!
Oh the whole Breakup is one of the few things I dislike about the 90's series. I can promise it will get sorted. But having this happen after watching her trying to get his memory back... again. Well it ticked off several of the fans. It could have been handled better. Also, I love the " Ayakashi Sisters " who the heroes have to face off against.
The change to Usako is a Japanese thing. Usagi = Bunny. That changes means he's calling her "little Bunny " to show the audience he still care for her alot. Not really a spoiler.
Thank you for reacting to this anime.
Sadly there is not much Naru from now on.
This arc is more a filler for the more serious Arc. Just wait to you see what ' drops '. bwahahahahaha
This arc was intended as filler. It didn't exist in the manga.

I know you're worried that you might not enjoy the next arc as this one but personally the next two arcs are my personal favorites from the 90s anime. Even though this arc was anime-only it's still canon to the 90s anime but not to the manga as the anime had its own continuity.

The best place to watch Sailor Moon R: The Movie is after Season 2. If you are going to watch it at all. Just wnated to make sure you knew.
Appreciate it, I’m not sure but there’s a decent shot I’ll check it out.
It's okay to have trouble with the names. I've been into this series for a looong time and still sometimes forget their names.
Finn's always been afraid of the ocean. It's just that times you thought he was in an ocean, he was actually in a big lake.
You do not sound very okay
😂
I don't understand what's happening. I know nothing about this franchise. Did the story turn out badly?
Basically, season one of The Promised Neverland is amazing, it’s a thrilling horror story that introduces you to the world. It inspired me and tons of others to go and read the manga, which, while flawed in places, is outstanding, Season 2 changes everything, they speedrun what should have been a roughly 4 season story, cutting most of the most important arcs (and, for some reason, a fan-favorite character, despite being in the part of the story they were adapting) It is one of biggest gut punches I’ve ever had as a fan of tv, it would have been better if it had simply been cancelled. (Season 1, by the way, is still worth checking out, as the story arc it covers is relatively self contained, and you can read the manga after if you want)
@@Fusionater Oh okay. It seemed like you were tossing out the books, so I thought the manga took a bad turn.
I thought their animal costumes were a nice spin to the story.
36:49 and it was revealed in s3 ep 5 breaktime episode
I wonder why they didn't show the subtitles for the songs. In the DVD/Blu-ray version they have subtitles for the songs. Both English dubs (Dic and Viz) dubbed the insert songs as well. The 90s dub by Dic had replaced the Japanese music with their own more American pop and ballads style music, while Viz just did an English version of the insert songs. Rei is voiced by Cristina Vee in the Viz Media dub, and she also voices the main character of Miraculous Ladybug and Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica. She's also a pretty decent singer herself and even before getting the role of Sailor Mars she sang music covers of the 90s dub such as "Carry On" originally sung by Jennifer Cihi, which was played instead of the opening during the battle with Queen Beryl in the season one finale. She also did an English cover of "Moon Revenge," which was in the Japanese version and kept in the Viz dub in Japanese during the first Sailor Moon movie, which you can watch after season two. Her favorite anime was Sailor Moon, so for her, it must have been a dream come true to be able to voice act as one of the Sailor Senshi. There's also a clip on RUclips of the song from this episode from the Viz dub called "Everlasting Melody." It's beautifully sung by Cristina Vee. In this episode, the Dic dub used the songs "Call My Name" and "Oh Starry Night," which are also available on RUclips as audio only.
It’s annoyingly common for songs in anime to not have subtitles, I don’t mind it so much for background music, or OPs(best I’ve seen is including subtitles for some episodes and not for others), that would overclutter the scene, but when a major character is singing and it’s the focus of the scene, no subtitles is a baffling decision to me. (This JUST happened in an episode of Re:Zero and I am no annoyed…)
@Fusionater You would think streaming services would provide the subtitles used in the physical releases as well for the songs. A lot of times I think they release it on a streaming service and then they add the subtitles for the music in the Blu-Ray/DVD releases because there's always that option in the language menu to have "Signs & songs" with subtitles. It's also possible that they added the subtitles for the songs in order to get past quality control but not on streaming services since they might have different standards.
Side note, is it sad that, as a non-dub watcher, the most instantly recognizable role of Cristina Vees for me from IMDB was Fwench Fwy, despite the fact that I’m currently watching Miraculous Ladybug? 😂
@@Fusionater Naw That's just the vibe you're getting.
