Learn to make movies from people actually making movies.
Over the years CineSKype at Utah Valley University has become a truly unique and prestigious series of filmmaker Q&As. With Oscar nominees and winners, Sundance and other important festival winners, blockbusters and micro-budget indies, directors, writers, producers, and editors all sharing their knowledge with UVU's Digital Cinema Production student.
CineSkype, hosted by Duane Andersen, is a monthly program where we watch a film and then Zoom with the filmmaker. Every semester we try to include one large Hollywood film, one micro-budget indie, and one documentary. We are now able to post the chat sessions online for our students, as well as others, to enjoy whenever they choose.

This is a great movie. Great performances from Aretha, the choir, and the musicians. Great shots, color and sound quality. No interruptions like narration or interviews. No visual gimmicks here. Pure musical heaven on earth. What raw power!! Thank you for pulling this off. I would love to see the three hour mix - it needs better distribution like the Beatles got with Disney - most of my friends didn’t seem know about the Aretha film when I’ve recommended it to them. I don’t know of any other film that blends the sacred and secular like this beast does. That tension between sacred and secular is another element, above and beyond the musical performance, that makes this film great.
A superb film a great marriage of performance and camerawork. A classic I think.

Awesome seriously
Props to Quinn for answering all of these students questions in such a genuine way. You can tell she made a lot of the students’ days.
No comments? Really loved this documentary. Think that gig at the Royal Festival Hall was in 2006 ? I was there at the hall that day when the Dolls played in the bar just having a beer with a friend . Shame I don’t have a ticket. Met a lovely lady in the bar who turned out to be the girlfriend of the guy who is a Marc Bolan impersonator but at the top level , they as a couple and with other fans are really dedicated to the memories of Marc . The Dolls were a legend in London and we used to hear Malcolm McLaren managed them before being involved in the Sex Pistols. I remember saying hello to Don Letts that day of the Meltdown, wished I had been in the gig . This film was and is brilliant. Watched it many times , the ladies at the library are cool
Alan is a one of a kind and so talented.
This is an IMPORTANT source of information for the movie/documentary AMAZING GRACE. Good luck Alan Elliott, hope we see get to see the extended version of the movie sometime soon!! Thank you for all of your persistent hard work in coming as far as you did. Hope the NEON will give you the respect you earned.
Yes - now it makes sense why it took fire for the film to see the light of day. What a comment on money taking priority over the art with a few individuals being notable exceptions.

I watched "If Beale Street Could Talk" and the CineSkype with Barry Jenkin's. I would have asked her how much control she had on binding properties of the film's narrative. This movie had a lot of things going for it, but I believe that it's pride and joy comes from it's aesthetic and how the visual style and rhythm affected the story in an important way. The stitching is brilliant, because it's a movie with a simple plot and suspenseful conflict. I believe that the best way to electrify an otherwise simple or "predictable script is by editing the final product in such a way that it feels spontaneous. This movie has a lot of talking and still moments, and yet the editing feels energized; not fast. I believe it effectively communicated the tone driven by the internal conflicts of our protagonists Tish, her family, and Alonzo. Barry was able to do this by using the most transcendent element of the film as her guide in editing; the conflict. The conflicts were exemplified paired with the films spontaneity. They worked in tandem. Or that's at least what I was expecting for Barry's answer to be. I appreciated her patience with us processing the field of editing. Everyone's questions were taken very seriously and respectably. I wish I was there. -Damian Parente
