The opening ceremony of FestPAC showcased dances and gifts from the island nations to the host, Hawaii. Hawaii provided housing and food for up to 100 delegates from each of the 28 island nations. It is amazing that so many vibrant and beautiful people live on the small island of Rapa Nui! We visited in 2008 during the Tapati Festival and were blown away! (Please see RUclips video) I had expected to be impressed by the giant Moai statues which we were, but I had no idea that the people were so exciting and handsome, and in my opinion, the best Polynesian dancers with men so strong and athletic, dancing with "liquid hips!"
