Congrats, Zach. So glad you read them all. I’m 60 yo and read many of these as they came out. Trust me, they are books that will come back to you as you go through the years. You will read them again and your opinions will continue to change. But way to go, proud of you for reading them all and your enthusiasm to share your thoughts. Keep it up!!!

You are an inspiration. I’m so sick of those who say young people don’t read. That hasn’t been my experience as a teacher and this series presents a case for young people who are avid readers.

It's nice to know you liked it! I think nttm was really unnecessary, but I loved it nonetheless. I was really happy to have more of Wes and Liz!

I love the hobbit but hated lord of the rings. I get it was genre defining but holy fuck is the first book boring. Hobbit is action packed and they aren’t stuck in the woods for over 100 pages and having to listen to some guy speak in riddles and sing songs to them

My first read through the series had me feeling similar, but after multiple re-reads, I am at a point where my ratings have flipped around a lot and Heretics might be my favourite of the series LOL It's like each book tries to come up with new ways to challenge the reader just after they got used to what the previous book was like.

As someone who re-read Lord of the Rings every year for 15 years - I LOVE seeing people discover classics and get overwhelmed by them. Dune is a sci-fi classic and I think more people need to realize that if you like Fantasy, you will LIKELY like some Sci-Fi, and vice versa. There are so many fantasy classics from the 80s and 90s that I hope you start reading as well!

That's because the authors back then were much better writers. Don't get me wrong, some of today's authors are good writers, but they don't hold a candle to classic authors.

One of my Favorite fiction book series doesnt have a lick of a romance subplot. I think it would be considered modern fantasy? (Whichever one has modern day with hidden magic/fantasy) Its not considered a classic like those 2, but I adore The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series.

Not classic fantasy, but one of my favorite fantasy series started with the first book Dragon Slippers, and the Deltora Quest series and sequels were pretty great too

No romance??? Frodo and Sam was the slowest burn in all of literature. So slow that they never ended up together but come on, we all know it.

Check out Robin Hobb’s works!! Her high fantasy novels set in the Realm of the Elderlings are my favorite of all time. Beautiful prose, rich worldbuilding, and some of the best characters to be written in the genre (Fitz, Fool, Nighteyes)

I always recommend Bram Stokers Dracula! It’s always ignored bc of how old it is and it’s written in Victorian English so it can be a tad hard to read, but it’s genuinely so well written and it’s surprisingly enjoyable! It takes a while bc of the difficult reading and the length, but I recommend it. It’s a slow read but with it

Elric of Melnibone saga by Michael Moorcock. If you like stories such as Berserk, the Witcher, and characters like Drizt Do'urden and the targaryen house, Elric is the grandfather of these characters. Created as an anti Conan the barbarian type of character in the early 60s, he became an archetype for today's fantasy protagonists.

Every time a reader branches out from booktok books to the really good stuff, an angel gets its wings 🫶 Now read Brandon Sanderson - either start with Mistborn, or if you're up for a challenge start with Way of Kings. Its the best there is for contemporary fantasy
