Добавлен 20 янв 2023
Welcome to "Worst Songs Ever," the podcast where we dive into hits from every era, unearthing musical disasters that inexplicably topped the charts. Each episode, we pick a song we believe is a true abomination, give it a listen, and then argue whether it's a cringe-worthy or deserving some love (or maybe both!)
But we're not just here to roast-we're here to celebrate the glorious train wrecks of the music world. It's as much a celebration of musical oddities as it is a brutal takedown. We revel in the absurdity, poke fun at the inexplicable lyrics, and dissect the bizarre production choices that somehow resonated with millions.
Beware, by the end, you might just question your own taste in music.

David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar: The 'Poundcake' Debate in Van Halen History
This week, Brennan serves up Van Halen’s 1991 hit "Poundcake" as his pick for the Worst Songs Ever award, and the debate gets juicy. Released on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album, "Poundcake" marks the Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen, complete with a drill-powered guitar riff and lyrics that some say walk the line between rock anthem and, well, a bro-fest. Rob, a die-hard fan of 80s metal, thinks this track could be one of the band’s best and is ready to defend it. Andrew? He thinks Hagar’s got more than just dessert on his mind-maybe even a deeper meaning hidden beneath the riffs. But Brennan isn't having it. For him, Van Halen without David Lee Roth is like cake without frosting-just...

IF they hadn't made Knee Deep in the Hoopla and instead disbanded when Paul Kantner left, or at least didn't hire Bernie Taupin and the other guy to make their music, maybe Jefferson Starship would be in the Rock hall of Fame by now.
Jefferson Airplane were inducted in in 1996, despite the horrors of their 80s output ;) Is that too harsh?
@@worstsongsever The airplane were indeed inducted. But Jefferson Starship were a very different band with a different musical outlook, and they had a very successful run in the mid- to late 70s with a mild resurgence in the early 80s. They are worth looking at in their own right.
and then Paul Kantner left in disgust in 1984, and the "Starship" minus Jefferson were thus born.
@@steffencambon4718 Incredible. Thanks for the info, I love gaining insights on these icons from our collective past. Part of our interest in having these discussions is to open up the doors, let the conversations spark our curiosity and then learn something new.... like now. 👍
Lots of talk analysing the lyrics yet neither mentioned that they were written by the great Bernie Taupin.
He wrote so many hits. I wasn't familiar. Wow.
Starship and Jefferson Airplane were two different entities that shared a single member.
Fascinating. You're right. It was only Grace Slick. I can't blame her for wanting to survive financially as an artist. Incredible to think how much the sound changed given that it ultimately was less than 20 years between "White Rabbit" and "We Built This City." How is that possible? Astonishing. 20 years feels like nothing.
Got this in my feed?? Don't know why?? Poundcake Rules, Fuuc the bearded idiot!! Not interested in this channel. Second guy was cool!
The Roth era was great rock/ heavy metal!! I didn't like Eddie's guitar sound when he ditched the Frankenstrat and started playing his own signature guitars in the Hagar era.
I think we are all Van Halen over Van Hagar. But I can't completely throw Hagar under the bus. I do think there are a some bangers on 5150 and OU812.
Does the Prof have a body rolled up in that carpet behind him? Did someone try to steal his snacks?
I will do a proper investigation into this. Thanks for the comment.
Great video, guys. Even better than the first one. What's next???
