This week, Bradley Kornish and Dan Pullen of the podcast Movies from Hell join Giles and Greg to talk about whatever interests them, which frequently includes the movies we're discussing this week (but also means, for some reason, discussions of formaldehyde chemistry sets and "Pete's Dragon"). The on-topic releases we mention are a new semi-remake of the gooey hobo comedy "Street Trash"; the C...

Our Halloween season guest this week is Paolo Zelati, author of "American Nightmares," a book of interviews with American horror directors of the 60s through the 80s. He's also a collaborator on George Romero's final screenplay, the as-yet-unproduced "Twilight of the Dead." Paolo has lots of interesting stories, but before we get to him Greg and Giles go through the week's new weird releases: "...
Weird View Crew (Halloweird Series): Dreamscape (1984)

"Penguin" Pete Trbovich looks at the unrealized potential of "Dreamscape," a dream-assassin flick that anticipated "Inception" by four decades although Christopher Nolan put a novel twist on the concept by making his movie good and entertaining. You could watch "Dreamscape" on Halloween, or you could just head off to the Village Pub for a generic beer.

Isolated Lee Demarbre ("Enter the Drag Dragon") interview from Pod 366, Ep. 81
Merry Christmas
Good man, recognizes the greatness.
Bleed on Daddy-o!
Extremely jarring to hear him talk so cogently about one of the most incoherent movies ever made.
Shes is soo nice and professional
Somehow never came up during the time I made this (and having to edit down via copyright mandate), ... but Nostalgia Critic reviewed Frighteners too just 2 years ago, and, naturally, was more of a whiny dick about the movie. Alas, his taste for weirdness ends at the borders of Hot Topic. - ruclips.net/video/WI5328BWYXQ/видео.htmlsi=GDYymvYf_MNX9xg4 At least viewers can contrast and compare. He has his points, of course, but a lot of what he complains about can be retorted with "it's pre-Tolkien Peter Jackson, it's supposed to be loopy!"
When the fuck can I watch this?
No dates announced yet, check with distributor Factory 25.
Exactly, it’s nowhere
@@jr_1cent It's time will come.
Me You 🎉
😍💙 Just now caught up to this ep. RE: Deadoaks Mall : It will live on! It's on hiatus right at the moment, but the team can produce any script a writer hands them without my input.
There's a skeleton wearing a bra in one background and you don't even notice the first view.
I remember seeing Dreamscape in the theater the weekend it came out. It was the second PG-13 movie released after Red Dawn which I also saw in the theater. I always liked Dreamscape. It's one of the few films that deserve a reboot.
YES! It also was poorly promoted! I literally think that the promoters never even saw a screening.
😆 I forgot the agents picked him up in a wood paneled station wagon!
I remember Dreamscape. I thought great idea but execution was blah. ...and he just said the same thing in the video.😁
Also forgot to mention the Julie Roberts rule - any director who has worked with Julia Roberts is incapable of making a weird movie.
Can you believe that my friend said that his two friends actually walked out of the cinema towards the end whilst watching The Substance . But they said that they did really enjoy it, but the ending was too much for them. Pussies !!
The Substance is a great, crazy movie.
Moguel is an astonishin filmmaker and human being!
Good stuff, thank you.
I been looking for this movie for 40 years. When I heard her say I'm alive, I knew it was the movie I was looking for. That was the only line I had remembered. Thanks for jogging my memory
That book was the first Movie adaptation of a Dean Koontz book. Dragon Tears, and The Bad Place were both pretty decent.
You've got a stuffed Opus! My late father bought me one with a hotel bath towel and a shower cap on it years ago, and I still have it.
Not a big night at the movies. In our city in '77, it played as co-feature to the six-month-old "Carrie".
Great review! I'd like to see this remade with modern tech and an updated script. Despite the film's flaws, it's pretty thought-provoking as a historical example alluding to the potential terrors of A.I. Off to see if I can unearth an original copy of the book AND its update ...
When I saw the title I thought it was an anime
Very underrated film. Limited obviously by some screenplay issues, technology and the execution of the concept was not as well done as it could've been. As far as the concept itself? Brilliant stuff. A very intriguing premise, but the film tries to punch a little higher than the intellectual ability of its script. The ending is pretty good though and it does end on a positive note ultimately.
... loving your new book, btw
Why thank you!
I remember watching it in TV (30+ years ago) under original play title. I was flabbergasted as it didn’t make any sense to me and I expected some quality from duo Taylor - Burton.
I saw BAD in the theaters when it first came out in 1977. I was dumbstruck. But by the time it was released on VHS, I not only bought it, I had BAD parties. At most parties, one or more people would go running out of my apartment cursing me and ending our friendship. I knew the party was a success! Yes, I was born, raised, and lived in NYC for most of my life. These people are real. And yes, the basis for this movie is still found in movies made today. This was the first. The original. This was BAD.
Would love to know both your top 10 personal favourite weird movies 🙃
Well, that's liable to change from week to week or month to month, but I could live with Eraserhead, Brazil, Last Year at Marienbad, 2001, Persona, Videodrome, Un chien andalou, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Barton Fink, and 8 1/2. So many favorites have to be left off such a tiny list...
@@366weirdmovies yup.. it's hard to pick 10. my favs are more surreal than "weird" but i'll list ya mine.. will have to have a think first. ps. Great podcast!!
1 The Adventures of God 2 The Science of Sleep 3 Mother 4 Greaser’s Palace 5 Dark at Noon 6 Case for a Rookie Hangman 7 Happy End 8 Wrong 9 The Saddest Music in the World 10 Mulholland Drive
Thank you for this interview, long live Everything Is Terrible
I saw it when I was about 11 years old on the big screen. I kept waiting for the bomb to go off
Recently watched and enjoyed. Recommend.

i wanna see this
For such a notoriously boring place Winnipeg got the most interesting cinema
When we interviewed him, John Paizs suggested it was "possibly something to do with our winters."
That movie is 100% weird. Hard to pick the really weird parts...
I never heard Damon speak before. If we lived closer , I know we'd be friends.
Nice to know i'm not the only one who discovered this gem of a movie back then. Virtually the same thing happened to me - as in choosing to see it blind rather than go and see a "normal" film as it were! Some fantastic observations about human nature by Mr Mitchell regarding the idea of using a face rather than an airship. Although i suppose we missed out on having warriors on horseback sporting airships on their heads. Maybe in Zardoz 2?? Ive got this book in my basket ready for a Christmas read and im sure its going to be as fascinating as the author. Well done guys
Whaaaaat the devil is this ?
😡😡😡😡
i remember seeing this on PayTV as a kid!
Hellooooooh!
Even the house interior is weird. Ahaha-
I don't think there are 10 moments in this movie that aren't weird! Great video.
Same mother became jill near the ending.
Man, I was introduced to Cory and the Billy nayer Show years after it was released I was absolutely enchanted with the whole steam punk retro style. I was so hoping for more
Awesome podcast - rhanks guys!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
